Hardening The Linux Kernel With Grsecurity (Debian)

Comment in News (1 digg, 0 replies) - 8 hr 25 min ago
Not really security *focused* per se (at least not all distributions/kernels) but always security conscious. Linux is and always has been intended for multi-user environments where the skill and clearance level of a given user is not automatically assumed … (see comment)

Hardening The Linux Kernel With Grsecurity (Debian)

Comment in News (4 diggs, 0 replies) - 8 hr 33 min ago
@john That report is about money/profit, not OS numbers. Considering most Linux distributions are completely free of cost and there is no comprehensive way to track them all it's not hard to see those numbers are but a fraction of the actual usage number … (see comment)

Drunk Father Accidentally Shoots Daughter While Cleaning Gun

Comment in News (1 digg, 0 replies) - 10 hr 31 min ago
@oldhick You are not saying anything that conflicts with or negates what I or Gan said. I know what your point is. His counter-point was that a petty/minor accident with a gun is far more likely to have a bad consequence than nearly anything else and tho … (see comment)

@oldhick #1 - You obviously didn't read the comment mor and I were referring to. If you had, you would notice that the statement we were referring to had nothing whatsoever to do with this case specifically. #2 - Just because something is stupid doesn't … (see comment)

We Used To Recycle Everything; What Happened?

Comment in News (5 diggs, 0 replies) - 15 hr 8 min ago
Hundreds of corporations spend billions every year brainwashing your stupid ass into thinking just that. Only a moron would think worry/awareness alone or spending an extra 30 seconds per day at the recycle bin when you throw shit away and waiting until … (see comment)

7 lessons Windows 7 can learn from OS X

"Having the browser ignore self-signed certificates is pretty bad." It doesn't say anything about having the browser ignore them, just not block them and make them such a hassle I use self-signed certs too and new versions of firefox totally piss me off … (see comment)

"Win2k and below can do it, in a pinch." As long as most of your hardware and peripherals are > 8 yrs old and use open/standard specs, I would assume (see comment)

As far as out-of-the-box hardware compatibility, MS and Apple both have a long way to go compared to Linux and BSD (as noisy mentioned). MS doesn't provide a lot of drivers/support AFAIK. Just enough to get basic hardware/peripherals up and running. App … (see comment)

My mythtv worked fine with one remote, not sure what your problem is... I use the same $5 remote for mythtv, xine, mplayer, audacious and amarok. Maybe you should look into lirc modes but those are typically for switching between programs... I don't see … (see comment)

Don't let MS fool you that isn't and never has been the case. Sure, there would be *more* malware/viruses than there are now but they would never be as effective or common as they are in Windows. The problem isn't Windows' is popularity, just look at all … (see comment)

MySpace hoax jury to hear about suicide

Comment in News (1 digg, 0 replies) - on 11/18/2008
"and almost anything can be that." No... not really. In order to qualify as non-physical abuse, it has to be repeated and considered negative. I sincerely doubt a parent would be charged with abuse for yelling at their kid but if it is repeated frequently … (see comment)

8 Great Alternative Desktop Managers For Linux

Comment in News (2 diggs, 0 replies) - on 11/18/2008
"And what's with calling window managers 'desktop managers'?" I think maybe they decided to coin a new term because "window manager" implies it just handles app windows primarily. Desktop manager implies it handles multiple desktops (which seems more apt … (see comment)

I am not convinced of the accuracy of the FAQ answer or the above two comments (especially amk's). I have not had any significant problems with 32bit flash + 32bit firefox in gentoo for at least a year or two. Before that it was a bit buggy but that was p … (see comment)
