sent a shout to 16 recipients on 11/04/2008i never realized how much of an impact air pollution can actually have on your heart. i always just thought of the harm it could have on your lungs. this blew me away:
"University researchers found that a nonsmoker living in a polluted city has about the same risk of dying of heart disease as a former smoker."
this is a good article which gives you some good advice on how to prevent the damage from pollution. i hope it helps!

sent a shout to 12 recipients on 10/31/2008i am really interested in health related stuff (as you can probably tell from a lot of my submissions) so this article was extremely interesting to me. it takes a look at what massachucetts is doing with their health care program. something i didn't even realize. look at this:
"one place stands out in the national health care debate: Massachusetts is the only state that has embarked on an ambitious plan to make sure all its citizens have health insurance. It's not a new idea. California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger proposed a state plan in 2007, Bill Clinton proposed a national plan in 1993, and Earl Warren and Harry Truman proposed plans for universal coverage as far back as 1945. Massachusetts, however, is the first of the 50 states to pass legislation that aims at universal coverage."

sent a shout to 2 recipients on 10/25/2008this is a pretty gut-wrenching blog post by a doctor who seems completely fed up with the whole health-care system (as are most of us patients). this part really stuck out to me:
"I’ve asked patients to come to the emergency room because of disturbing symptoms or lab-test results, only to have them tell me that they fear a denial letter and the ensuing insurance fight, should the ER evaluation reveal that nothing is wrong."
it's just really sad and needs to be changed.... more …
