no they're not open source, however it seems like perhaps distro's will be able to include the firmware from these drivers and the open source drivers on their disks (previously this was prohibited so you had to download the firmware yourself before using … (see comment)

not really precise, although i haven't read the article yet, my understanding is that IBM really wanted to open source the thing, but remember that os/2 was developed in collaboration with microsoft, and ibm don't have full control over the OS. (see comment)

you probably have a windows partition or wine... those aren't linux viruses... avira makes a very nice anti virus for linux and linux live CD's its main purpose is to clean trashed windows installs... clamAV also serves that purpose... (see comment)
