Engadget: Busted for Unethical Blogging

Vincent, perhaps you'd like to disclose to the readers of Digg that you were fired from Engadget for your gross incompetence at Defcon and your complete inability to turn in work that met our editorial standards? Did you know that after I fired you I had … (see comment)

I guess I'm willing to give Will, the author of the piece, the benefit of the doubt. (see comment)

I don't mind! We've got nothing to hide, and as I've said, I have no problem admitting when we're wrong. I'm trying my best to make Engadget a great site and so am always happy to address any concerns anyone has. (see comment)

Engadget’s Exclusionist Tactics Are NOT An Isolated Incident

This was the first I've heard about this, so I just emailed Eliot Phillips, our How-To's editor. He says that it's a coincidence and that Will O'Brien, the author of our piece wasn't aware of the GideonTech guide when he wrote his How-To. (see comment)

We stopped reading your site a long time ago. We have a lot of sites in our OPML and we have periodically pared which feeds we read and yours was one of them. No offense, but at the time we made the decision, OhGizmo just didn't seem as critical or as rel … (see comment)

Thanks for being the voice of reason here. I don't think any reasonable person could say that we dominate any market. There are hundreds of other gadget blogs out there, not to mention all the big tech news sites like CNET. I'm the first to concede tha … (see comment)

Again, you are conflating the issues here. David Ponce isn't complaining about us taking information from his site and not linking back (which is what you're alleging) -- he's complaining about us not reading his site and thus not being exposed to article … (see comment)

Yup, as I said, we made a mistaken assumption and that led one of our writers to do the wrong thing. I'm not saying we didn't screw up or that we didn't owe DAPreview an apology (which we've offered). (see comment)

Actually, that's pretty much exactly what happened. We fixed the article as soon as we were aware of the problem. We'd be happy to remove the image or add any further disclaimers, but DAPreview has not requested that. (see comment)

We didn't cut and paste anyone's article. That's not something we did. What we did (besides stupidly cropping a photo that we thought didn't belong to DAPreview) was link to a site that linked back to the original source rather than directly to the source … (see comment)

Hi, this is Peter from Engadget. It is our policy to always correctly link back and credit our sources, and it appears that in this case we did not. That was wrong and we have corrected the article. It was an error on our part for which I take complete re … (see comment)
