Google Opens Its Templating Technology

normchownormchow sent a shout to manogamez   1 day 16 hr ago
Google is on a roll. Hot on the heels of releasing its internal Protocol Buffers data interchange format, it has open-sourced Google XML Pages (GXP). Though the project page reports this as version 0.2 beta, don't be fooled: according to a presentation about the technology, this is the templating language behind AdWords, Blogger, Google Reader, etc.

A step in the right direction i'd say!

One thing about the Free Software Foundation: there's seldom any doubt where they stand. Take the blog entry they recently posted: "5 reasons to avoid iPhone 3G." You can't come away from it thinking that there are pros and cons to the iPhone. How Well Do their arguments stack up?

normchownormchow sent a shout to manogamez   8 days ago
The band Radiohead has a new spin on "open source". Its new single "House of Cards" has a video that was created using advanced visualization techniques and various computer-rendered models. The band has teamed up with Google to release the data for the promo as open source using a Creative Commons license. Take a gander at how it looks here...

Google Android: Difference Between "Open" and "Open Source"

normchownormchow sent a shout to manogamez   9 days ago
As it continues its sometimes-rocky march to an actual release, Google's Android mobile phone platform is now fighting a sort of internal revolt from upset developers. The problem stems from the unsteady release rate of the Android SDK, a necessary tool for anyone who wants to build applications for Android phones.

Second Life Faces Open Source

normchownormchow sent a shout to manogamez   11 days ago
Second Life vendor Linden Lab has been dabbling in open source for quite a while: their client code is available, and they've persistently talked about making the server open source as well. But now the company is facing a potential upheaval to its business model, as alternative compatible virtual worlds are popping up all over the place.

interesting stuff - would love your thoughts.
