Can you clarify on what you mean by left behind? LTS releases have been receiving security and bugfix updates very prudently to the best of my knowledge. (see comment)

How does OpenGL excuse XV video tearing, or lack of AIGLX texture_from_pixmap support for Beryl, or random hardlocks and crashes from stopping X or switching between X and virtual terminals? And these problems have only gotten worse through later releases … (see comment)
