Comment in News (1 digg, 0 replies) - on 01/06/2009
Hey, if you want to read the whole climate progress report...I leave it to you. But I assume most people won't want to. Secondarily, if we were using the thirty-year old technology, it would be cheaper, not more expensive. It's the new designs (that are … (see comment)

$1 Billion Per Year of Power Wasted by PS3s and XBoxes

Comment in News (6 diggs, 0 replies) - on 12/29/2008
Just pointing out that the article is about the $1B of power that's used while the consoles aren't being used because they don't turn themselves off. Power used during the actual enjoyment of the video game consoles is, of course, power well spent. (see comment)

$1 Billion Per Year of Power Wasted by PS3s and XBoxes

Comment in News (5 diggs, 0 replies) - on 12/29/2008
If you read the article, we're all over mentioning that the PS3 pwns the Wii. And what we mean when we say "wasted" is that that's how much they use while they're NOT BEING USED. The power used while I'm actually playing Gears of War 2 is power … (see comment)

Why Gaming is Green

Comment in News (4 diggs, 0 replies) - on 10/28/2008
That would be a big fat lie. The PS3 is rated at the same wattage as some refrigerators, but refrigerators are on all the time, while PS3s are (hopefully) idle most of the day. I guess it depends on the level of your addiction. (see comment)

Yeah because Toyota doesn't have any gas guzzlers in it's fleet. Chevy's overall fleet efficiency is higher than Toyota. Toyota was actually in tenth place for this year's fleet efficiency. Chevy was in third after MINI and Honda. (see comment)

Why Green Technology is Like File Sharing

Comment in News (1 digg, 0 replies) - on 09/05/2008
Almost all of the major technological innovations of the last 50 years were incubated by the U.S. government. Nuclear power, cell phones, and the internet all started out as government projects. And even when the innovation came out of some other place, g … (see comment)

It's hard to underestimate the power of actually knowing these things. Tidal and geothermal power are the only two renewable power sources that are truly predictable and the advantage is pretty vast. (see comment)

The Environmental Technology of Wall*E

1. Even at 100% efficiency it would take a lot of energy to melt iron...something which WallE's laser is capable of doing. 2. Only about 1 kw of solar power hits the earth per square meter on the hottest, sunniest day at high noon. Even if WallE captured … (see comment)
