We squeeze a lot of people onto it, 60 million onto an island thats 243000 square Kms. Whilst the USAs most populous state, California is 410,000 square kms with 34 million people. We're packed in like sardines. (see comment)

Not my submission, but seriously a great Bad Astronomy article that just gets me excited about our future space exploration prospects. Basically, let's just use parts of the moon to build a giant telescope. Telescopes at least 5x times the size of the current largest ones in Hawaii.
