Wireless power charging technology may unplug Apple's iPhone
Comment in News (1 digg, 0 replies) - on 04/10/2008
The company was prominently demonstrating its technology with an iPhone prototype. That's why a site like "AppleInsider" would comment on it, and why the headline relates to the iPhone. The reason they demonstrated it with the iPhone is because it is the … (see comment)

Apple pushing Safari downloads on Windows users
Comment in News (-8 diggs, 1 reply) - on 03/21/2008
Yes, imagine if Microsoft came up with a spyware licensing tool, called it something specious like "Windows Genuine Advantage" and told users it was a critical update that improved the security of their system, and then loaded it whether or not they wante … (see comment)

Apple Tv Review: Apple TV 2.0 Review
Comment in News (7 diggs, 2 replies) - on 02/13/2008
Gizmodo just throws out a scale of 1-10, where 1 is VHS and 10 is BluRay, and calls HD Cable a 7 and Apple TV HD a 5. It's too bad they didn't actually do any comparative testing before making that up. iLounge did a great photo comparison that actually … (see comment)

Who is going to buy your $50,000 RAM disk laptop? Perhaps Apple considered the costs involved in their engineering of the Air. (see comment)

The "death" of Microsoft's Xbox 360

Fanboys give an emotional response to anything that disrupts their view of what they want. Note the comments above: no rational arguments, just name calling and dismissal of inconvenient facts. The article presents sales numbers and looks at strategy. It … (see comment)

For starters, Gaming for Windows isn't console gaming. Note the title: Console Gaming. Second, while the PS3 and Xbox are both competing in a certain way against the still available, much cheaper PS2, the difference is that Sony owns both PlayStations (! … (see comment)

No you are absolutely wrong. Acorn was only interested in making desktop RISC processors for its RISC PC machines; Apple began work with Acorn in the late 80s to create a low power mobile chip, which ARM migrated toward. It was half owned by both. Apple a … (see comment)

It's not about new processor speed, its about a new processor family architecture. Silverthrone = low power x86 iPod/iPhone = ARM Having noted that, the iPod/iPhone/Touch are not going to use Silverthorne. Low end Mac products like the Apple TV and a n … (see comment)

Keith Olbermann Buries Rudy Giuliani With Truth
Comment in News (3 diggs, 0 replies) - on 01/02/2008
Reporting truth in an opinion/editorial doesn't require being impartial or objectively removed from the discussion. An opinion by definition is NOT impartial. Objective journalism should report events without an opinion message. That's why newspapers clea … (see comment)

As someone who has interacted with Dan Lyons outside of his FSJ persona, I can attest to the fact that he is a bit of a disingenuous douche. He knows how to say nice things when he needs something, but he'll misrepresent things you say, and straight up li … (see comment)

If you think $4 billion on Vista (I think Bill Gates actually said it "was the best $6 billion he ever spent") was an error, what are your feelings on losing $2 billion a year on the Xbox and Zune, neither of which really "competes on quality." Both are i … (see comment)

Why Microsoft's Zune is Still Failing
Comment in News (3 diggs, 0 replies) - on 11/24/2007
sources are listed in the article both for why the Zune is failing and why Microsoft is scrambling to hide the evidence. It has paid for Zune placement, and CNET has unsurprisingly advertised it in its "reviews," but that doesn't make it a good product an … (see comment)

Hilarious 'Don't Give Up on Vista' Web Ad from Apple

I tried to plug in a standard IDE/USB hard drive enclosure. No love from Vista. Works on XP, works on OS X; XP installs various bridge support drives and volumes, while Leopard just works immediately. But I couldn't get Vista to recognize my basic standar … (see comment)

3G iPhone for May?
Comment in News (1 digg, 0 replies) - on 11/21/2007
Actually the iPhone is faster in practice on the slow EDGE as other crappier phones are on a 3G network like EVDO, simply because the software works better. Google it. And of course WiFi is FAR faster than any mobile network. (see comment)

Well that's just wrong. Over the last three years, iPods have only got revisions every year. Apple's laptops and desktops also get a major rev about every year. Sometimes there is a minor bump, but significant updates happen about every year. Add in the … (see comment)
