Chaos386 is right - I tried switching to GIMP when moved to Ubuntu and the lost productivity hours were so high that it would never make sense to switch away. Tasks just take longer, even if you know what you are doing in GIMP. (see comment)

For the price it isn't amazing. If you look at the major classes of consumer apps - productivity suites, email and web browsing, image editing, gaming, etc... GIMP is by far the worst class-leader. (see comment)

Not true. Gimp is unlike nearly any app I have ever used - be it on Win, Mac or Linux. It is a cluttered, confused mess that, unfortunately, is the best Open-Source has to offer right now. Thank God for Wine. (see comment)
