We all try to save a buck in our daily lives, especially if we have a family, then it becomes almost a necessity. We usually learn after we have grown into our middle years, single or married.

With all of the unknowns in both our agricultural and post harvested food processing before we make the final purchase at the supermarket, sometimes the foods we do eat, are totally different than those that we are able to grow in our own back yard, or are able to buy from U.S.D.A. organically certified farms.

When we shop, it usually is the brand name we choose, since it is the most familiar to us. What about the store brand? Is it different than brand name for the same food? The can or box may be a different color, but is that a judge of quality?

Our government here in the U.S. and most other nations of the world have been irradiating some of our foods increasingly from simple bacon since the mid 1950's. They say it saves the aggravation of food manufacturers lawsuits from the lessening of process contamination, but does it really work?

Ever since the inrush of the American "Industrial Revolution", the nutritional value of the food we eat has been on the decline, even following the addition of vitamins and minerals to fortify our foods to offset the losses using artificial fertilizers.

Honey bees, how they visit each one of the harvested fruit we eat. What if they just disappeared ? Would we here in the U.S. be able to find another pollinator ? Well, unless the mystery is solved soon, we may have to.

Each year, in the early spring, after the first lengthy rains, mosquitoes begin to make their appearance in our backyards and low-lying valleys. Local communities usually begin spraying to kill their larvae, hoping this will help keep their numbers down later. Do the mosquito sprays really work?

Very few of us are aware that our bodies are similar to our backyard pools, in that their PH varies and should be maintained at a certain level to be in an ideal state. Left acidic, they will breed bacteria growth. Kept slightly alkaline, they will be safe for use, given proper filtering. Just an analogy...

For a few decades now, the U.S. has been advocating and implementing irradiation of some of our foods, mainly ground beef, chicken and as of late, many of our fruits and vegetables. During much of this time period, public reaction has been predominantly against it and many consumer advocates hope to eventually topple our governments efforts.
