I'm not opposed to this because this is what some people need. A detailed instruction booklet and a way to get it without downloading it. Sure you can get all that online but some people are comforted by having it all in a neat little package. (see comment)

Windows 7? wow you have some long term goals. Lets work on getting Vista Business to run fast enough for the HP mini-note (that it is bundled with) and we can go from there. In the mean time Ill be using Ubuntu. (see comment)

I just got the HP mini-note but its fatal flaw is that it cant run the Vista Business addition is comes with well enough. Ill be putting Ubuntu or Xubuntu on it so I can speed up the time it takes from off to note taking. (see comment)

Considering it costs as much as 2 or 3 textbooks I say the laptop. In addition the laptop can carry limitless free and open textbooks as well as internet access for virtually unlimited resources... so its win win. (see comment)

This is great news for me. I use OpenOffice, Lotus Symphony, Google Docs and Word between my workplaces and OOo/Word at home. Word is the weak link currently due to the lack of native ODF. I will feel a little better about using it now. (see comment)

This is a great concept from Dells end but it means nothing if they put an operating system on it that has its obsolescence planned/forced. If Linux is the default OS for this machine it would actually mean something. (see comment)

Hmm... are you sure? Would windows distribute a live version?.... No. And if they don't it certainly wouldn't be legal to obtain one or make your own.... making this inconvenient to say the least. (see comment)
