I think he talks about brown thing to much. Brown is not a ugly color if used correctly. A dark rich brown can be quite royal in feeling. I've seen some very good brown color schemes, Although ubuntu brown is not really one i would choose. (see comment)

OpenGL is actually vendor upgradeable. Meaning they don't have to wait till theres a next version of directx to use the latest gpu features. (see comment)

You can go less dialogues deep. i.e rather than clicking on the menu, then finding the app and then clicking on it. Just click the icon. A general rule of UI development, Less clicks = better. (see comment)
