Four Things You Can Do to Stand Up for Online Poker Rights
I hope we'll all digg and shout this one. The nanny staters have been trying to take from us our right to play poker on the Internet in our own homes with our own money. This effort impacts us all, as it restricts Internet freedom and as it forces banks to be the Internet gaming police. Ron Paul has cosponsored legislation to undo it. I hope we'll all stand up for our rights as Americans.

Libertarians Dream of Being the Tie-Breaker
"So maybe it isn’t very “live and let live” for libertarians to assemble en masse in the hopes of exerting power. But some libertarians, feeling a little heady after their party’s national convention last weekend, are making a bold claim: this is the year their voting bloc will hold some serious sway in American politics."

Why is the GOP Imploding?

Why is the GOP Imploding?
Hi! I got my first article published in Townhall today. Please digg and shout! Thx...I appreciate the support. "The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (UIGEA) is typical of Republican leadership efforts to legislate morality. The GOP leadership embraced the power of the federal government to tell Americans what to do in their own homes with their own money. The GOP leadership also embraced UIGEA’s deputizing of banks to enforce the law, as if America’s banks were an unpaid arm of the Department of Justice."

Online Gambling Bill HR 5767 Gains More Co-Sponsors
Reps. Rothman [NJ-9] and Cohen [TN-9] have signed on to halt prohibition of online "unlawful Internet gambling" - a term no one in government can define. If you care, write to Congress today. If you don't care about poker rights, write to Congress to tell them to STOP WASTING TIME on this prohibition when our nation has bigger fish to fry! Go to www.pokerplayersalliance.org/letter to write. And, please digg and shout.

NewsWeek: Playing the Spoiler Role?
Newsweek article on the Libertarian race. Nice quote: Root, a millionaire, Spike TV host and former Las Vegas odds maker, is betting that the Libertarians can make it into the mainstream by attracting gamers. There are 12 million poker enthusiasts in this country who had poker ripped away from them in 2006," said Root. Root said that he and Karl Rove—seated at Root's kitchen table one night in 2006—debated the fate of online poker. Root said he told Rove that banning online poker would demoralize the GOP. "Rove said, 'Wayne, that's ridiculous. Poker?'" recalled Root. "Karl Rove laughed, and the Republican revolution ended."

LP Cand. Wayne Allyn Root: Why Gambling and Gamblers Matter
Libertarian Candidate Wayne Allyn Root believes poker players will vote for freedom: Over one million American poker players have joined the political and lobbying arm of poker, The Poker Players Alliance. The Chairman of the PPA is former United States Senator Al D'Amato. Those one million poker enthusiasts can be expected to vote for their freedoms and liberty.

TNR: How An Anti-Gambling Crusade Threatens U.S. Interests
Because American law bans online gambling sites based in other countries while permitting domestic gambling in any number of forms (wouldn't want to anger Sheldon Adelson!), the WTO ruled that it runs afoul of international trade agreements. Instead of fixing the law or paying damages to the countries affected, the Bush administration....

Religious right feeling left out in race
Former Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) pushed several items out of the 2006 agenda in the wake of the Terri Schiavo euthanasia imbroglio: prohibitions on gambling, a constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman, etc. Among the items on the 2008 agenda: lower gas prices and a family-friendly workweek. I'm not sure which is funnier....the fact that the GOP is just now figuring that that people aren't voting for a big government nanny state that seeks to protect us from ourselves, or that the social conservatives are still trying to legislate morality and are upset that others aren't with them.

GOP Senate Massacre of 08
Dick Morris analyzes the upcoming Senate elections and doesn't see a lot of hope for the GOP. I guess that's what they get for morphing into the party of the big government nanny state.

All-new Poker Players Alliance website

WSJ.com - Opinion: Time to Fold
Wall Street Journal editorial on Internet gaming. Please digg and share. "A trans-Atlantic spat over online gambling may help rewrite the rules of the game for Internet commerce across borders. For a change, the Europeans stand on the side of free trade, while America dabbles in regulatory overreach. The European Union last month launched an internal probe...."

View All ShoutsBob Barr Leaps in as a Libertarian
"With the announcement that he'll seek the Libertarian Party’s 2008 presidential nomination, former Georgia Republican congressman Bob Barr has added another twist to an already crazy election year." It includes a bit about Ron Paul. The comments in the neocon-friendly Townhall.com are surprisingly pro-Libertarian. Maybe McCain will be seen as the spoiler by November!
