I See the Failure of the Health-Care System Every Day

this is a pretty gut-wrenching blog post by a doctor who seems completely fed up with the whole health-care system (as are most of us patients). this part really stuck out to me:

"I’ve asked patients to come to the emergency room because of disturbing symptoms or lab-test results, only to have them tell me that they fear a denial letter and the ensuing insurance fight, should the ER evaluation reveal that nothing is wrong."

it's just really sad and needs to be changed....

Is the NFIP a "danger to the nation?"

this one kind of shocked me. i had never even heard of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) but it's a government program that has paid out a whole lot of money to people who's homes have been flooded repeatedly. this one was a shocker:

"One house in Houston has flooded 16 times; repairs have totaled $807,000, seven times the market value of the property. Yet very few of these owners have lost their policies or seen their premiums go up substantially."

i'm not sure if i agree with this statement that one former director of the NFIP has called the flood program "a danger to the nation" but in these difficult financial times i'm just not sure. i hope you enjoy the article and i'd love to hear your opinions on it.
