- inactive, on 01/15/2009, -1/+29She got a better deal then this idiot: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/07/01/casino_tat ...
- emecks, on 01/15/2009, -3/+3145 minutes later she emerges with a tattoo that is not bleeding or even slightly inflamed... did they do the tattoo with a sharpie?
Fake. - liquidtaco, on 01/16/2009, -0/+17for some reason when i saw "reef job" i was thinking it was sexual
- nambio, on 01/16/2009, -0/+13$150,000AUD = $105,000USD
- inactive, on 01/16/2009, -4/+17I like how the story description capitalizes "WOMAN" as if it's utterly ridiculous a female did such a thing.
It's utterly ridiculous that ANY human did such a thing. - AmyVernon, on 01/15/2009, -1/+14My favorite one:
"A Greek woman promises to do laundry for every Australian if she gets the job. " - Ph03N1X418, on 01/16/2009, -0/+12Yes, I have. Very recently, as a matter of fact, from someone who knows what they are doing. Skin reactions can vary from individual to individual, but a brand new, fresh tattoo does NOT look like what she has on her arm. There is always SOME swelling and blood/ink seepage, especially within the first 45 minutes. I also did not notice the shine of any tattoo/antibacterial cream, or protective saran wrap, the absence of which is bloody retarded, seeing as new tattoos are essentially open wounds.
- AReallyGoodName, on 01/16/2009, -0/+12Wow great Viral marketing job here by the Queensland government.
Offer to pay someone $150,000 for a really cushy job and get many times that back in free advertising. - EvilFerret, on 01/16/2009, -0/+11I have to agree as well....I have a total of 10 tattoos so far and there's no way in hell that one was minutes fresh. Most likely she's playing it smart and just got a temp tattoo. If you look close, even at the low res video it looks like the ink is blotchy/smearing. If she had done this for real she would have posted high res photos of it being done, or at least the moment it was done she would have taken a pic. She's probably going to wait until she knows she's one of the finalists to get it done. Very smart move IMO.
- kangy3213, on 01/16/2009, -0/+8i still think this is a scam
- bradcrc, on 01/16/2009, -2/+9if she got people to believe that's a real tattoo, then perhaps she deserves that job.
- inactive, on 01/16/2009, -1/+7I'm just curious as to what a "reef job" is.
(about $50, if you haggle) - dvsbastard, on 01/16/2009, -1/+7I like how you haven't realised that they captilise the first one or two words (usually the subject matter) in a lot of news articles...
- pygmy, on 01/16/2009, -0/+5I jizzed in my pants. In Australia.
- 0x0000ff, on 01/16/2009, -2/+7That's the point.
- eschompthis, on 01/16/2009, -2/+6I really hope she doesnt get the job.. dumb bitch
- YawehsDead, on 01/16/2009, -3/+7I agree. She simply took a brief clip of the guy handing her a clipboard and stitched it together with a clip of herself after getting a temporary tattoo.
- cyrix, on 01/16/2009, -0/+4It's not a scam, it's more like a reality show contest. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they aired something on tv during the final 11 candidates interview stage. I mean it clearly states they'll be participating in what amounts to basically physical competitions on the website. I was hyped for this when I initially heard about it, but after some research I realized it's just a publicity stunt for the Great Barrier Reef and decided not to waste my time. They'll just go for whomever they think will garner the most attention and be the "kookiest" of them all. It did however make me seriously start looking into IT work in more tropical locations like Hawaii, Costa Rica, etc....
- ChrisBradley, on 01/16/2009, -0/+4More businesses/governments should figure out advertising like this. How to get 1 million hits on your website. Brilliant! Plus it makes whoever gets the job a lifetime fan.
- jturbo, on 01/16/2009, -0/+31 applicant down 1999 to go. This is the equivalent of talking about your drunk driving experience during an interview for a chauffeur position...
Story #2 in my upcoming book "Stupid people: The story behind the ink". First page is reserved for the Detroit Lions 0-16 tattoo... - depro9, on 01/16/2009, -0/+3This was just a massive scam morons.
- BoneheadFarker, on 01/16/2009, -0/+3Not really. Humans aren't that bright.
- francismitra, on 01/16/2009, -5/+8Bleeding? Have you ever gotten a tattoo? The artist cleans the area and wipes away the blood (not that there's even much blood to begin with). And tattoos barely become inflamed (assuming of course the artist knows what he's doing). At most the ink will appear slightly raised.
- JCEEZ, on 01/16/2009, -0/+3what should they have put instead of Woman.
"Human gets tattoo to win island reef job"
i say nay - GREEDOnvrFIRED, on 01/16/2009, -2/+5Who better to entrust with the care of your property than someone who cannot be entrusted with the care of their own body.
- nesstheking1, on 01/16/2009, -0/+3Why is everyone up in arms against Mr. Babyman when DirectTulip Has stolen plenty of stories!
Hey Tulip, try to not be an ***** and if you're going to steal stories at least change the name/description! - MacEnvy, on 01/16/2009, -0/+3Porn spam. Mods, please ban this idiot.
- LethalGeek, on 01/16/2009, -0/+3This is typically something us idiot guys would do :P
- pingudownunder, on 01/19/2009, -0/+3QLD Tourism have since admitted that this woman, "Tegan", was a fake planted by them: http://www.news.com.au/comments/0,23600,24932457-5 ...
- mataresex, on 01/17/2009, -0/+3it would definetly still be reddish around the area.
plus that thing looks completely like a hennah tattoo - Argentian, on 01/18/2009, -0/+2The chick is just a PR person. Fake tat, fake girl. Stupid - they probably want the 12 'invited' for the three days of jollies to do something like a filmed show.
No thanks, don't believe it's real. - Sublex, on 01/15/2009, -4/+6I'd totally tattoo myself to get a shot at that job...
- vulpescry, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2Ditto. I'd do it easily too. Paying for college is tough on me right now.
- pingudownunder, on 01/19/2009, -0/+2She's a fake ... Queensland Tourism's CEO admitted today it was an "error of judgement" to upload her video onto youtube without saying that she wasn't a real applicant ...
http://www.news.com.au/comments/0,23600,24932457-5 ... - jturbo, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2Check out Detroit Lions 0-16 guy...this is nothing...
- rob2oo4, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2***** tattoo
- CedEx, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2The article says more than 2000 people applied? How is that even possible? I wasn't even able to get the site to load!
Sounds sketchy how those people even had a chance to apply. - graeh, on 01/17/2009, -0/+2who the ***** is digging you down? News.com.au is a national disgrace - it's primarily sporting and celebrity news - or 'celebrity', and there tends to be an eerie coincidence between the celebrities in question and their role in fox owned television shows looking to increase viewers.
It's a joke that they have the "news.com.au" domain - they are the furthest thing from actual news among the top aussie sites in said category. - undervalued, on 09/14/2009, -0/+1I tattoo my company's name onto the foreheads of school children.
- inactive, on 02/06/2009, -0/+1oh, it is
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Ree ... - nambio, on 01/16/2009, -5/+6I finally joined digg, just so I could bury this crap. The tattoo is fake -- its not wrapped, its not bleeding, its not even red.
- armchairexpert, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1what a stupid woman. I can't believe she did that just so she could stand out from the rest. A permanent tattoo? What an idiot.. idiot idiot idiot. This ***** brings out the worst in people..
- JackGrinnan, on 01/16/2009, -4/+4Dude, how isn't that fake?
- JMIJohnny, on 01/16/2009, -2/+2Haha you haven't read too many news articles have you.
- 0x0000ff, on 01/16/2009, -3/+3Since it's not a scam, what you think makes you look stupid.
- jturbo, on 01/16/2009, -3/+3"...the worst that could come of it is that the chap's long-suffering girlfriend would have to have GoldenPalace.com rammed down her throat a couple of times a month." The author, Lester Haines, is awesome.
- riskybeats, on 01/16/2009, -3/+3Idiot does something stupid, no one surprised.
