- doublefelix, on 10/22/2009, -0/+21If that doesn't make you feel nostalgic, nothing will.
- casspa, on 10/22/2009, -1/+14That was truly an awesome video.
- digitalArtform, on 10/22/2009, -1/+13Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo (filming locations): Then and Now
http://www.basichip.com/vertigo/main.htm - MetalliTooL, on 10/22/2009, -0/+12There's something really trippy about seeing old footage restored and in color. We think about old times as if it was some kind of parallel universe where everything was in black and white. But then you watch something like this, and you realize that things were the same (I don't mean politically or technologically, of course). It could've been you walking along those streets, watching those "modern" 1950's cars go by.
- rmtamm, on 10/22/2009, -0/+10Amazingly, the city hasn't changed much. Only the cars and outfits are different.
- erkokite, on 10/22/2009, -1/+11Look at how thin people are!

- jonnyboy1544, on 10/22/2009, -1/+7Wow... Oakland looked like a dump back then too!
- Zenkitten, on 10/22/2009, -0/+6Neither was I, but just play along.

- santiago1, on 10/22/2009, -2/+5 Yeah, well, there was also the Common brothers: Courtesy and Sense, but they've long gone, Lad, gone the way of the self respect and your fancy dressing.
All we old-timers have these days are the memories. Bright points of light in an other-wise dark, cold, soulless world.... - n1eb, on 10/22/2009, -3/+6People used to dress so nice. I wish we could have that again.
- Adnimistrator, on 10/22/2009, -1/+4I wasn't born yet. :\

Sweet video! - diggB, on 10/22/2009, -0/+3For streaming of user posted videos (HD or SD), vimeo's quality is incredible compared to youtube.
- YoYoYoImcool, on 10/22/2009, -0/+2The music was tight and its nice to see older POV movies
- napier, on 10/22/2009, -0/+2God San Francisco is so beautiful. I've only been once but I'm dying to go back. Anyone want to put me up for a weekend?
- jdames1980, on 10/22/2009, -0/+2Right when this started I thought of Vertigo.
- ezki1l, on 10/23/2009, -0/+2Not much has changed since the 50s...
- londonflare, on 10/22/2009, -0/+2lovely to see how it was in the 50s having just come back from holiday there, sat in almost the same seat at the Top of the Mark bar and the view is just as special now.
- jbella, on 10/23/2009, -0/+2Ha. Remember when those girls went to go see the president (Bush) wearing flip flops?
These days, most people look like they just rolled out of bed and decided to go shopping. - borez, on 10/22/2009, -1/+3Don't know why you got dugg down, I'd like to know the same thing.
- Opensole, on 10/22/2009, -0/+110 seconds until this video is on the A Continuous Lean blog....how predictable.
- londonflare, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1it was very powerful
- borez, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1Should read "only be one day"
My brain is not working tonight... long day and all that. - Sylx, on 10/23/2009, -0/+1Wow, the city actually looks clean.
And don't look at me like that. The buildings have that "newly built" look to them. - wernst, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1Ah, this song was in the film "Lost in Translation." I KNEW I had heard it somewhere before. Thanks for the tip -- off to Amazon.
- kss42, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1I felt like I was watching the new spinoff, House: San Francisco
- bigtedshred, on 10/23/2009, -0/+1heh.. that's how they do it, still to this day!

and now
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q& ... - zephc, on 10/22/2009, -1/+1"I remember when this was all orchards, as faaaaar as the eye could see..."
Seriously, the Silicon Valley used to be the Santa Clara Valley, with orchards everywhere
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBTrgv0PwI8 - tdogg241, on 10/22/2009, -1/+1The dude spinning the streetcar was kinda nuts. Weird that nobody that got on helped him. I'd like to think I would have.
- granrapmi, on 10/23/2009, -0/+0This lovely 3 minute capture of "The City" is NOT the same place as today. Sky scrapers now overpower some vistas shown on his tape. The pace of life in SF has multiplied numerous times since then too to a frenzied rush.
- granrapmi, on 10/23/2009, -0/+0Yes, I did notice he was left like a sole animal to churn the cart around to point it the other way. I hope I would have jumped out in my 50's suite and tie and helped you lend a hand too.
- YourNameHere1, on 10/22/2009, -1/+1You have no sense of history. Yes the world is racist, it still is, but San Francisco in 1958 had the Beat generation with people like Jack Kerouac, and a thriving Jazz scene in North Beach.
