- jonnieblaze, on 11/06/2009, -4/+23When it's my turn to drive I like to lock all the windows then let one rip. Who ever complains first gets the next meal or tank of gas.
- borez, on 11/07/2009, -2/+18As somebody who's toured the states twice and also done a couple of road trips with my ex ( from Chicago ) I gotta say... I ***** love American road trips.
Shame the UK is too small to do the same thing. - casspa, on 11/06/2009, -0/+16My favorite memory from college was after winter finals Junior year, we were all talking about places we'd never been, ended up hopping in the car at 2am and driving from Tallahassee, FL to Aspen, CO....good times.
- Sleye, on 11/07/2009, -0/+12Your first problem is going on road trips with your family.
- smemily, on 11/07/2009, -0/+11I think your buddy posted at the top of the comments.
- FongoBongo, on 11/07/2009, -0/+8One time on a road trip my buddy who was driving let one riipppp. But it was of epic proportions this rip. It was so putric, morbid, and deathly that we initially thought we were smelling manure from the passing farms. Only after inhaling the toxic fumes and after 30 minutes had passed he owned and said he farted. We were all in disbelief and I swear I can still smell it.
- WanderOn, on 11/07/2009, -0/+8Hell yeah, there's even a website set up to help you find people to stay with along the way! ***** stayin in a hotel or motel for $80+ a night
http://www.couchsurfing.org/ - riffic, on 11/07/2009, -0/+7road trips rock, but railroad trips are a different sort of pleasure everyone should try. Don't try this if you need to be somewhere on a schedule that isn't flexible however.
road trip advice: stay off the interstates, you see so much more on a state/us highway. - balthisar, on 11/07/2009, -1/+7Okay, just WTF *is* Twp? Means "township" in my neck of the woods, but if that's the case I don't see the joke...
- mehan, on 11/07/2009, -0/+5you do realize you can switch stations on XM? you don't have to listen to the same genre for 18 hours a day...
- rehabdrew571, on 11/07/2009, -0/+4Now planning one =)
- inactive, on 11/07/2009, -0/+4Road trips, great scenery, great music and good friends. If only I lived in a scenic country and had friends, my music is great though.
- DrNemo, on 11/07/2009, -0/+3Driving and listening to music can't be anything else but great fun, especially if you have the whole day and nothing else to do.
- Rileyman6678, on 11/07/2009, -0/+3are we there yet?
- Vaiper, on 11/07/2009, -1/+4Road trips always start out fun for me but then I am reminded how uncomfortable and exhausting it is to be in a car for a long period of time. Always makes for some good stories though, so maybe its all worth it?
- wrestlingnrj, on 11/07/2009, -0/+3After road tripping back and forth between LA and Miami 7 times so far all I can say is that I absolutely love road trips. I try and drive to as many other places as I can too.
- WiseGuy1020, on 11/07/2009, -2/+5Yeah I just read that a couple times and I still have no idea what is funny about it.
- WiseGuy1020, on 11/07/2009, -2/+5And a couple of big fat ones rolled.
- EliteBeat, on 11/07/2009, -0/+3Never been on one. I don't have any friends to try it with anyway.
- WiseGuy1020, on 11/07/2009, -1/+4Back in high school when I was on the wrestling team we used to take long road trips in vans to tournaments. My crazy muddaphucker of a coach used to wait till we were a couple hours deep and not paying attention and pop in the cigarette lighter. As soon as it popped back out he would yell "Incoming!" and throw it backwards into a group of six to ten of us.
Crazy as it sounds ***** like that brought us together as a team and we went on to kick ass that year.
- jftitan, on 11/07/2009, -1/+3nice....
- mehan, on 11/07/2009, -1/+3cool story, bro
- magamiako, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2The Amtrak Adirondack route is quite beautiful nearly any time of year. I've taken it in November, January, and May.
- KJSatz, on 11/08/2009, -0/+2Might be less than $100 if you weren't driving an escalade?
- smemily, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2Agreed on all points. A flexible schedule is a must. The beauty of Amtrak trips, to me, is that much of the time you're on these isolated tracks way into the wilderness, where no humans have had a chance to throw trash on the ground yet. Plus, you can look out the windows instead of drive, and you don't have to stop to use the restroom.
The food is expensive like airport food though, so if you are on a budget, pack lots of edibles. - Markpdotcom, on 11/07/2009, -1/+3I'll be your friend, guy...
- magamiako, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2Okay, little backstory. Where I'm from, we don't have "Townships". Nor do we have "Boros". We have cities and suburbs. So I had no clue what "Twp" stood for.
Never in my life until then had I seen a sign that said "Township" "Twp" or "Boro". Get it now? Man you people are idiots :P - V3n0M, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2Road trips are great. Road trips to see your favorite band are priceless.
- milkmage, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2i road tripped (across the country) with 2 young ladies who happend to be on the rag for the first half... it got really hot in the ***** trunk. never again.
- askantik, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2How is Ireland not scenic? o_O
- badenglishihave, on 11/07/2009, -2/+4Dick.
- pstroll, on 11/07/2009, -3/+4I clicked the link expecting Dave Attell :(
- mojaam, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1Road trips do sound like a good idea. I'm always worried about the gas though but this article made some good sense. Gotta try it someday.
- Number23, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1My 1st rule of road trips: All normal dietary restrictions are OFF.
White Castle Belly Bombers! - askantik, on 11/07/2009, -1/+2My only complaint with this article is that I've travelled a good portion of the Southern US which isn't known to be vegetarian-friendly, yet I've made it as a vegan. People who call themselves vegetarians don't eat burgers. If you need a wannabe excuse like that to eat meat, then just eat meat.
Anyhow, if you like scenery and are ever in the area, both of these are highly recommended:

http://www.nps.gov/natr/index.htm - badenglishihave, on 11/07/2009, -1/+2Plus petrol (haha) is way cheaper here in the states.
- agentsrecord, on 11/08/2009, -0/+1I've love to nurse Absinthe with the Polish, grab a beer with the Germans, sip wine with the French, grab a pint with a Scotsmen and get hammered with the Vikings all in the same road/ferry trip.
***** I'm a lush. - caeser5786, on 11/08/2009, -0/+1driving through Kansas destroys your soul
- MattZed, on 11/07/2009, -2/+2Only thing I could think of was twip sounding like trip if you were like 4 years old.
But that's not funny. - psykiv, on 11/07/2009, -2/+2***** road trips. I've been going on road trips with my family ever since I was born and I hate them more and more every year. Just leaving florida (we're in miami) is about a 9 hour drive. The road trip is always the same thing every year. Drive, eat and explore for a few hours, drive, eat and explore for a few hours. drive, eat and explore for a few hours, stay at some hotel to sleep, repeat. I don't care how big and comfortable your car is (last three years has been in their escalade, which i think anyone would agree its a big comfortable car), it gets extremely uncomfortable after a few hours and you can't wait to hit that next rest stop.
We have done miami to california a few times, miami to ontario, miami to new york, miami to chicago, miami to denver, and lots more. It also kind of sucks spending like $100 in gas a day. What sucks even more is going into a major city and being stuck in traffic for 6 hours (atlanta, im looking at you)
luckily with the invention of XM radio, having crappy radio stations to listen to is a thing of the past. even then, I don't care how much you're into one genre, but me listening to any genre for 18 hours a day for two weeks straight (and it's the radio, they'll repeat the same 20 songs over and over) will make me want to hurt someone - magamiako, on 11/07/2009, -2/+2Reminds me of the time that my friends and I took a short road trip to Atlantic City (from Baltimore). We took the back roads, went up 40 instead of up I-95. When we got to Jersey I was sitting thinking to myself "wtf is Twp?" So finally I ask out out loud to all of my friends in the car, "WTF is T-W-P? Twip?" Everyone in the car laughed so hard and my friends nearly never let me live it down.
Yes, road trips are awesome. - askantik, on 11/07/2009, -2/+2In the UK you can do continental road trips. What's wrong with that?!
- conan777kudo, on 11/07/2009, -3/+1Cool story bro.
- BotchaMcCoola, on 11/07/2009, -5/+2Poor man's cruise vacation.
