- upick, on 07/05/2008, -3/+101. Great Barrier Reef
Like most great places people are the main cause of their destruction. The great barrier reef is not closed to the public - illustrick, on 07/05/2008, -2/+9dude this ***** is serious, when i was in Australia my friend showed up part of the reef that is dieing, that ***** is real, and we need to stop it. or in the next 100 years we might not be able to sustain life on this planet.
- deva14, on 07/06/2008, -0/+2Scary stuff.
I hear the Everglades recently got some good news though - a huge swath of land bought back from a sugar company... a little chunk of the area that will be restored! - deeauds, on 07/06/2008, -1/+2Having lived in the Philippines before, there are stark differences between present day and 15 years ago.
i think the root of the problem is the combination of poor public education in the matter, poverty, and political corruption.
Although, there has been a slow move to improvement in the past few years, environmental conservation seems to be in the back burner with regards to the laundry list of issues. - HuskyPuzzle, on 07/06/2008, -1/+2The rate at which they're all disappearing is crazy. It's up to us in the US and everywhere else, to elect leadership that gives a ***** about this list.
- Fluvant, on 02/27/2009, -1/+2You can't really blame "people" for this. Sure, we contribute, but it's natural for the Earth to change.
Global warming happens whether we're here or not. - Hetman, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1I do not think there is anything we can do about it. There are natural cycles in the world, and sometimes things die. Humans need to learn this.
- GhostPanther, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1I saw Wall-E the other day with my daughter. The whole movie is about how our lazy asses are ruining the planet cause we don't clean up after our selves. As the end of the movie, which the crowd applauded I should add, the lights came up and the place was filled with empty soda cups, popcorn bags and candy wrappers.... "F it, the ushers will clean it up..." We're treating our whole planet like a movie theater....
- subliminali, on 07/06/2008, -0/+0I'm not sure if 'the snows of mt kilimanjaro' really belong on this endangered list. First, a couple of new studies have come out in the past few years that theorize that global warming is not to blame and that the snow levels might actually be on the rise recently. Second, it's just snow-- not really on par with shrinking global habitat and endangered species that could vanish off this earth forever.
I think it's important to highlight these causes but its equally important to be realistic about what we can change and what the real issues are with our environment rather than just rallying around the latest hip cause to stop baby seal clubbing or save a photo op in africa. - patrickloggins, on 07/05/2008, -4/+4Uh-oh. The Snow Leopard might be in trouble. Alert Steve Jobs.
