- FreddyLinksalot, on 07/24/2009, -0/+12I think American currency looks goofy now with those big numbers in the corner, but I am glad those numbers are useful to some people.
- danj484, on 07/24/2009, -0/+12"The United States money looks like MONEY."
Based on what standard? Your logic is circular. - myskepticsight, on 07/24/2009, -0/+11Like Hong Kong's the best
- etoiles, on 07/24/2009, -0/+11Swiss bank notes are a 'lesson in graphic design'... you really need to see the whole series to appreciate the consistency of the design: http://images.pingmag.jp/images/article/swiss-desi ...
Plus, they are so jam-packed with information you might actually learn something :-) - CeeJayDK, on 07/24/2009, -0/+9Different sizes of bills , also help automated telling machines count your money and the many colours on them makes them much harder to counterfeit.
BTW coins rule. - yonoz, on 07/24/2009, -0/+9Nonsense, the most beautiful currency is beads.
- Poseur117, on 07/24/2009, -0/+9It's entirely possible they say the same thing about our money.
- aidanwhiteley, on 07/24/2009, -0/+9The secret to pretty money is to be an island, either literally, or, in Switzerland, case, politically (neutral). Hong Kong gets by on both criteria somewhat.
- phyburn, on 07/24/2009, -3/+10Wow the Franc does look pretty epic.
Why doesn't USD look good? It's always looked like ass - juankovo, on 07/24/2009, -2/+9I think gold is the most beautiful currency.
- alpha88, on 07/24/2009, -0/+7I live in Canada, so we don't have the different sizes (although it's an excellent idea), but the colour is helpful when you want to quickly pay for something or know how much money you have. Say you look in your wallet and see red, you know you have a $50, or if you see green you know you have a $20, if you see blue you have a $5, etc. When I travel to the U.S. it bugs me that the money is all so similar because I have to actually flip through it to find the bill I want, and not having loonies or toonies is annoying too. Especially for vending machines!!
- plaguepony, on 07/24/2009, -1/+7LOBSTER STICKS TO MAGNET!
- kbillar, on 07/24/2009, -0/+6A simpsons quote for every occasion:
"Look at all that pink and purple."
"Our money sure is gay." - insertAliasHere, on 07/24/2009, -0/+6I'm firmly of the opinion that we Americans should copy your money. Well, somewhat. Use our own art, but make it colorful. Would make counterfeiting that much harder. Also, do away with the $1 bill, make people start using the $1 coin. And add a $2 coin.
- CeeJayDK, on 07/24/2009, -0/+6My vote for most beautiful paper currency goes to the Comorian Franc.
If we were voting on coins , then I'd have to vote for my own country's coins .. the Danish kroner.

- boozedrinker, on 07/24/2009, -5/+10These ***** currencies couldn't even buy THE 11 ***** PAGES THEY PUT IT ON.
- shapul, on 07/24/2009, -0/+5I second that. Here is another link showing both sides of all swiss bank notes and some details about the design and artworks shown on the note.

Another interesting thing is that unlike most countries instead of showing pictures of politicians, swiss bank notes show pictures of the artists, musicians, architects, ... things that a culture should really be proud of. - Jabrams2, on 07/24/2009, -0/+5Hmmmm this does look awfully familiar.... wait for it.... http://digg.com/d3us2Q Come on CNBC, how does Woman's Day create an article 100 times better than you???

Though an ethnic Serb, it's interesting that Nikola Tesla never set foot onto territory of Serbia. - XeroXenith, on 07/24/2009, -0/+4American money is IMO undoubtedly serious, but most currencies colour-code their notes. American bills I'm always getting confused with. Is it a one? A hundred? They all look the same :(
- ihavebeenseen, on 07/24/2009, -1/+5It is shocking Serbian Telsa money is not there.
- Philmer, on 07/24/2009, -0/+4I can't digg you enough! I love having the Swiss getting some attention around digg, I've always loved our money, and wished others knew about it, notably the Americans with their laughable excuse for a currency, it's just too easy to copy.
- bobdigi, on 07/24/2009, -0/+3Hong Kong is smoooth.
- ka9dgx, on 07/24/2009, -0/+3I like the 1922 Peace Dollar.... solid, with a nice ring if you hit the edge.
Real money doesn't burn in a fire. ;-) - serif69, on 07/24/2009, -1/+4http://gethelveticaoffourmoney.com/
- jsauter, on 07/24/2009, -0/+3Different coloured currencies is a good idea. Makes it less likely to hand out a $50 instead of a $20.
Different sizes are kind of dumb. I remember getting about 200E out of a German ATM and having whirl around for a few moments. Out popped a perfectly stacked set of different sized bills. I am sure that there is a reason for it, but it seems like a lot of infrastructure to be built just for the heck of it. - wejmahtin, on 07/24/2009, -1/+4Extremely fun to parouse if you have flash blocker.......
- crocodilexp, on 07/24/2009, -0/+3Nobody mentioned Myanmar Kyat.
They're fairly boring these days, but back in the 1980's they had some fun denominations in circulation (15, 35, 75, 90). Must have been fun adding up the bills. Ne Win had a serious fetish for numerology, and at one point almost caused a revolution by canceling all notes not divisible by 9.
http://www.banknotes.com/bmm.htm - DiggMeUpPlz, on 07/24/2009, -0/+3I love Goooold
- Rankao, on 07/24/2009, -0/+3I enjoy the monopoly money look of the euro. My favorate is the hundred euro bill though, (If I recall correct from 4 years ago) it was a really awesome green.
- DiscoUnderpants, on 07/24/2009, -0/+3Sigh.
- emkaysmith, on 07/24/2009, -0/+3"Play money." Ah, yes. American exceptionalism raises its head. "It's only real if it says U.S. on it."
Better check what country your jockey shorts are made in. - BroodofEvil, on 07/24/2009, -0/+3What?? No Lioncash??
http://elgerjonker.nl/wp-content/gallery/lioncash/ ... - Maxwell1234, on 07/24/2009, -0/+3I didn't know they had their own currency.
- unclefire, on 07/24/2009, -0/+3Some nice notes. I'd add Euro and Aussie Dollar notes to the list of cool notes.
I think the Aussie notes have some clear plastic in them too. - emkaysmith, on 07/24/2009, -0/+3In the '70s & '80s, I used to deal a lot with college-age foreign students and we had sessions on "getting along in the U.S." which focused on practical matters. Every year, one of the most-often mentioned annoyances/frustrations was the fact that American currency was not only all the same color but all the same size. The Bureau of Printing & Engraving has always had zero imagination.
Used to be the Italian lira ranged in size from a L10 note about 2" long to a L10,000 saddle blanket you had to fold over at least twice to cram in your wallet. - danj484, on 07/24/2009, -0/+3Platinum is far superior
- crocodilexp, on 07/24/2009, -0/+3Here's one particularly big dong (SFW):

- kokuei, on 07/24/2009, -1/+4There is nothing badass about American money. It would be a different story if you had steaks and guns on it, but it doesn't. The USD just looks like ass.
