- jrm125, on 09/25/2009, -12/+79Prediction: Project runs out of money 3/4 completed due to economic downturn, lack of oil funds, and general disinterest.

- ChileanGoD, on 09/25/2009, -4/+62You better not run out of gas in the middle of it.
- hokie47, on 09/25/2009, -3/+50They don't run out of gas over there.
- kalleanka, on 09/25/2009, -2/+48ooooooooooooooooooooooooong
- robfrye, on 09/25/2009, -1/+42I usually measure things in blue whales
- Tubetrotter, on 09/25/2009, -1/+41Maybe they run out of friendship first.
- Dominatus, on 09/25/2009, -2/+42So...it's 5% longer than the previous longest bridge? And that one was built over 50 years ago...
- merreborn, on 09/25/2009, -2/+33...If by "interesting" you mean "boring as *****".
I'm pretty sure the first mile and the 12th mile look pretty similar... - kleezy, on 09/25/2009, -0/+30Upon skimming the graphic, I thought it was supposed to be a scale model of a 40km bridge. I was in the middle of calculating the approximate height of the towers when I realized I'm an idiot.

- anklesnap, on 09/25/2009, -2/+30that engineering is crazy
- mrMunchies, on 09/25/2009, -0/+28Wow, at least you got a nice view while you are sitting in traffic

- GorfTron, on 09/25/2009, -1/+15It is amazing how $3billion can make an amazing thing like this. $3billion in the US today is for some bank or the military to blow out their cornholes on a big nothing.
- Snap65, on 09/25/2009, -0/+13KBR what a surprise.
- ThanatosST, on 09/25/2009, -1/+14people still use the digg bar?
- milkmit, on 09/25/2009, -0/+12Another ***** infailgraphic.
Using the profile of a suspension bridge was grossly misleading, and had me so distracted with the thought of a 40km suspension bridge that I could hardly pay attention to the rest of the content.
Also, there was no clear indication that the measurements were beginning on the left side, and since the numbers were all scattered (rather than in a straight row, like a ruler), it took me a few seconds too long to realize that they were counting up from left to right, and not from right to left of just randomly placed. - bhartland, on 12/31/2009, -0/+11Here's the current longest bridge in the world, spanning Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q& ... - KahRahTay, on 09/25/2009, -0/+10i heard that comment in head in the voice of goofy
and i am disturbed - Namco, on 09/25/2009, -0/+10I thought Bohemian Rhapsody had the longest bridge.
- Jeegus21, on 09/25/2009, -0/+8Anyone else feel like that picture is deceiving? I was thinking it would be more along the lines of like, the bay bridge in Virginia. That picture makes it seem like its going to be a massive suspension bridge, which doesn't really make sense.
Edit: after looking again it says 14km of dams with 22 bridges... - spiderman0505, on 09/25/2009, -1/+9It always amazes me how they build bridges.
- Ubermann, on 09/25/2009, -0/+7Come back when the thing is actually built.
- twodollars, on 09/26/2009, -1/+8Jacket.
- kkm3, on 09/25/2009, -1/+8sorta pointless...the bridge i mean...It makes sense in this case (Qatar to Bahrain) but to go across a lake when there's a way around it that takes only 1/2 hr more realllly seems pointless. What a waste of money.
- copypastry, on 09/25/2009, -0/+7It's not just a bridge. No.
It's a ***** FRIENDSHIP CAUSEWAY. - Shinola, on 09/25/2009, -0/+7I hope they make a documentary of the building of it. I love watching those.
- tamman2000, on 09/25/2009, -0/+7yeah, novel would have been a better choice of words...
- somnus, on 09/25/2009, -0/+6You mean the author of this infographic needs to work on their communication skills.
- arkayuu, on 09/25/2009, -0/+6Oh, just you wait.
But seriously, it's also feasible with this scale of engineering to include gas stations and rest stops in the middle of the bridge. - rif42, on 09/26/2009, -0/+5Longest bridge is in Thailand 54km.

- VegaObscura3, on 09/26/2009, -0/+4How many blue whales is your penis?
- amrja, on 09/26/2009, -2/+6Umm... lack of funds? Qatar is the world's richest country according to GDP/capita, and its natural gas reserves are enough to last it for 200 years... they export to many countries, including the UK, Japan and China.
Qatar is the number one LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) exporter in the world, and output is expected to double in the next few years.
Basically.... no, they will not run out of money. - necrozim, on 09/26/2009, -0/+4guess its time to bury the artical for being inaccurate upon reading that wiki link
- DemDude, on 09/26/2009, -0/+4The weirdest part would be that the bridge is so ***** long that traffic situation could be totally different on km 30 from what it is on km 10. You could even easily have sunshine on one end, and heavy rain on the other!
- AlienMushroom, on 09/25/2009, -0/+4Buried for lame graph.
- masterstghm, on 09/26/2009, -0/+3Man, a 40 minute drive on a bridge? That's intense
- mwtapp, on 10/11/2009, -2/+4Take that Seven Mile Bridge.
- HeavyWave, on 09/26/2009, -0/+2At least it's amazing.
- evilsin, on 09/25/2009, -0/+2with all that money why dont they buy palestine and iraq and rebuild them?
- BigBlondeViking, on 09/25/2009, -0/+2Qatar kind of looks like a skin tag on Arabian Peninsula...
- master69better, on 09/25/2009, -0/+2Mt Everest is 40/4.5 km long. That really helps me understand how long 40 kms is.
And for our friends in Myanmaar, Liberia and USA, its nearly 25 miles long - inactive, on 09/26/2009, -0/+2From the graphic I also thought for a moment that it was a scaled suspension bridge, until I realized that each tower would be about 6 miles high. THAT would be some frigging bridge!
- craigtheguru, on 09/25/2009, -0/+2This graphic is confusing. The longest bridges are overlaid on an image of the Golden Gate bridge, which is not even on the list.
