http://all.fuseurl.com/ir - Prodigyman, on 09/07/2008, -3/+93Most of these places are in Europe, very interesting indeed.
- AzeemAhmed, on 09/07/2008, -18/+76Europe = awesome.
america sucks. - ghostrunnerdig, on 09/07/2008, -2/+41Strong showing for Switzerland: Zurich, Geneva, and Bern all in the top 10.
- ElGubrush, on 09/07/2008, -2/+36Aw, come on, this list sucks if it doesn't mention [Insert Hometown Here]!
- kushin, on 09/07/2008, -4/+37Maybe they should name the list The World's Best Cities not places, we all know the best places are really not the cities.
- Tomholius, on 09/07/2008, -2/+33vancouver isnt that cold because its on the coast.
- inactive, on 09/07/2008, -8/+39Canada FTW!
In before haters from the states burying this.
Go ahead, hate...by burying this. don't be shy - CanadaMan87, on 09/07/2008, -7/+36I guess there is none.
Tip: if you have a choice, don't live in Asia. :P - inactive, on 09/07/2008, -13/+38Because Europeans are better educated than most other cultures, and has the highest rate of atheism in the world.
- Saea, on 09/07/2008, -7/+28Awww wheres Portland, Oregon?
- OropheR, on 09/07/2008, -1/+21It all depends on the criterias. If you are 80, you may like the Luxembourg very much, if you are 25 and single there, you better shot yourself. In Amsterdam, if you are 25-30 and single, the city is great for you, but if you are married and with kids, I can't say this would be the best place to grow up your children.
On a side note: Geneva is boring. There is nothing to do there. - juneof44, on 09/07/2008, -12/+32Where's the love for Asia?
- shootsfired, on 09/07/2008, -0/+20Are American cities really that bad?
- Suzpaz, on 09/07/2008, -2/+20You mean like the grand canyon and space?
- long, on 09/07/2008, -0/+17try visiting Vancouver, BC. there's a reason why its rated fourth best. and that includes weather.
- dionahwai, on 06/15/2009, -5/+22Toronto, Canada FTW!
- sapo916, on 09/07/2008, -0/+15Yeah, I've lived in America and Europe so I can say that American life is inferior from my experience. This place is nice if you need to make quick cash but overall a lot of big American places are comparable to small towns in Europe. The only difference is that its bigger here.
- SeaFour, on 09/07/2008, -0/+14Anyone else seeing a correlation between socialism and quality of life here?
- herrferret, on 09/07/2008, -2/+16Your kidding me right. There are a ton of americans moving to Berlin right now, as well as switzerland and holland.
I just walked down the street to the corner shop a minute ago, It could be that the american accent travels but I could hear americans a'plenty holding impromptu street converstations.
You can do that here, unlike many other places (I am looking at you UK) you won't get arrested for loitering. - herrferret, on 09/07/2008, -0/+13You did notice the sad lack of UK cities there, there is a reason for that. The UK contains crime obbsessed grey and depressing metropols where everything is either overpriced or taxed to the hilt and London is the worst offender. Travel round europe and you will meet american and english 'Refugees' rocking out to the european vibe and loving it in germany, switzerland and holland. They won't go back to 'The Motherland' until it sucks less and they can afford to live.
- JakeBC, on 09/07/2008, -3/+15Why do they have to keep telling the world what a great place Vancouver is. We already have too many people moving here!
- theatheist, on 09/07/2008, -0/+11Im glad i live in Vancouver.
- MrChunks, on 09/07/2008, -0/+11Moving to London? Hahaha! Take a few sackfuls of money with you, or alternatively a warm cardboard box.
- ConanTL, on 09/07/2008, -5/+16I can tell this is a list made by business week. I went to Düsseldorf about a year ago and it has some of the snootiest rich arrogant bastards in all of Germany.
And why are we measuring the "best" place to live by GDP? Surely there's something to the quality of life that isn't measured in Dollars and Cents. - themastersb, on 09/07/2008, -0/+11B-but Europe is supposed to be the worst country in the world...
- nohrt, on 09/07/2008, -2/+13Vancouver FTW!! only 1 us city... that goes to show something :P
- theatheist, on 09/07/2008, -1/+11there is still a huge difference in poverty and rich populations in Asian countries. that takes a huge bite from the score.
although im not sure why Japanese cities didnt top the list. - MrChunks, on 09/07/2008, -1/+11Because it's too expensive to live in, unless you're an actor or a rock star. It rains 360 days of the year, a beer costs the same as your mortgage payments and you're constantly breathing in car exhaust fumes. Oh, and Red Ken got rid of the pigeons.
- FACT, on 09/07/2008, -5/+15I hear the smug is terrible over there
- TheAeneid, on 09/07/2008, -1/+11Not surprising. High prosperity with excellent municipal and social services coupled with low crime rates. Highly organized with low corruption. You can pretty much rule out US or Asian cities. Interesting that no-one mentioned that there aren't any African or Middle Eastern cities on the list. I guess that's a given. And no South American...
- reddevild, on 09/07/2008, -0/+9Honolulu, HI
- Suzpaz, on 09/07/2008, -1/+10What about Oslo? Expensive, but damn it's a good place to live. We got everything you need...
- SteveHamn, on 09/07/2008, -1/+10True story. P-Town > all
- upick, on 09/07/2008, -1/+9Well I'm happy with this list I'm in the 10th best place to live in the world Sydney!
- Suzpaz, on 09/07/2008, -0/+8"Livable"...... See the difference?
- Rotzooi, on 09/07/2008, -0/+8It's about quality of life; tropical countries tend to lack a lot of facilities that European cities do have.
Also, US and Japanese cities tend not to be included for extreme working hours. Again to do with quality of life.
Of course, it all depends on how you define QoL. - sagat, on 09/07/2008, -0/+8Hey I bet some American who doesn't even have a passport and thinks Cleveland is the center of the universe blasts this list as silly European propaganda.
- Kikkoman, on 09/07/2008, -1/+9O hell yah, u ain't livin' it if u ain't livin' in da T-dot yo.
- pradaaddict, on 09/07/2008, -1/+9Wow Vancouver is slipping. We used to be number 2, right after Zurich
- BossKey, on 09/07/2008, -0/+71. heat
2. humidity
3. more bugs
4. more bug-transmitted diseases
5. more hurricanes
6. no interesting seasonal changes
I like to visit tropical places, but I love living in a temperate city. - osuchasenuts, on 09/07/2008, -0/+7+1 for Portland baby! Bright and sunny today.
- BetterOffEd, on 09/07/2008, -0/+7Were you expecting Cleveland?
- Jeff505, on 09/07/2008, -0/+7You've obviously never been to Vancouver, Toronto or Ottawa. Maybe you shouldn't talk about the weather in places you've never been to.
- sapo916, on 09/07/2008, -1/+8Tropical is more for good vacations not for good living.
- herrferret, on 09/07/2008, -0/+7I hear you on that. I used to think the whole of Germany was very rude, until I took a trip from Dusseldorf to Koln and discovered that it was just bloody Dusseldorf, everywhere else is lovely.
