- papusman, on 06/11/2009, -2/+27I love this. Just goes to show that no one country "won" the space race. The USA and USSR both contributed so much to humanity. We owe ALL the brave cosmonauts and astronauts our thanks.
- borez, on 06/11/2009, -0/+19Great set of pics of the Buran space shuttle: http://englishrussia.com/?p=1362
- sexybobo, on 06/11/2009, -6/+24Yes silly Americans being the only country to ever land people on the moon.
- TabDelineated, on 06/11/2009, -0/+16What's great is that this place, like many other museums, probably gets only the minimum fundding and donations, and what keeps it going is the time, hard work and dedication that volenteers put in to it. Props to those people.
- Krinkov, on 06/11/2009, -0/+11they missed the best Russian space program moment.
PIGS IN SPACE!!!!!!
http://englishrussia.com/?p=700 - chocula78, on 06/11/2009, -0/+10Sarah Palin can see the museum exhibits from her house.
- KrisStrong, on 06/11/2009, -1/+8I hope those aren't the real dogs.
- braingilbreath, on 06/11/2009, -0/+7It's nice to see that they at least have a model of the U.S. Saturn V.
- TracerMan, on 06/11/2009, -0/+7How about paying a visit to Russian Space exploration museum? If it seems like a good idea then come inside for it.
- nem0, on 06/11/2009, -0/+7I like the 'Techno Trousers'!
- TheUndyingOne, on 06/11/2009, -8/+14I visited the MIR ground control center in 1996. It was pretty awesome too. I always have a fun time talking with Americans who are convinced they won the space race :P
- Nerfdude, on 06/11/2009, -2/+7i'm sorry?
http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/5769/1238636283784. ... - Arseny89, on 06/11/2009, -0/+5Pretty sure America, and like every other country in the world is battling all of those things as well dude.
- lbmouse, on 06/11/2009, -0/+5I agree...unless they also have the stuffed corpse of Yuri Gagarin on public display.
- frequentFlyer, on 06/11/2009, -0/+4Yuri Gagarin died in a MiG-15 crash. He was flying drunk. A great man with such a sad ending.
- Chairboy, on 06/11/2009, -0/+4The real benefit of liquid booster rockets is that they can be throttled back or shut off. The SRBs on the US shuttle burn until they're out of fuel, there's no way to turn them off.
Even if ground control had known at the moment the Challenger launched that something terrible would happen 72 seconds later with the SRBs, they couldn't have done anything. In a similar situation w/ the Energia-boosted Buran, they could shut off the boosters and begin an emergency landing. - Javindo, on 06/11/2009, -0/+4Dugg for fitting an entire museum on one page.
- robbob, on 06/11/2009, -0/+3when I saw the dogs, I felt bad for them. Put up in space , unaware.
sad - kiley481, on 06/11/2009, -0/+3Anyone else read all the captions in their head with a Russian accent?
- rebo2, on 06/11/2009, -0/+3It made me so sad to see the dogs!
- Grolsch, on 06/11/2009, -0/+3That's why I told you "touch nothing". But you're bunch of cowboys!
- NoozeHound, on 06/11/2009, -0/+3Erm, Let's all have a snap with bonesy...

and as for this one..

Unique indeed! - maliath, on 06/11/2009, -2/+5Sad that a country that once accomplished such amazing things for mankind is now battling AIDS and TB epidemics, rampant drug abuse, and organized crime.
- flyingsquirle, on 06/11/2009, -0/+3You really have to commend both sides of the space race, America and the USSR, for coming up with some of the most advanced and incredible inventions that helped send at first metal, then small animals, and finally culminating in a huge space installation floating above earth built by the two competitors! I only wish I could've lived during such a time to see and experience these things as they happened.
- Arseny89, on 06/11/2009, -0/+3Is the space race really nothing more than a dick waving competition to you?
- inactive, on 06/11/2009, -0/+3the song of Tetris plays through my head
- Nerfdude, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2that's quite possibly the funniest sequence of photos i've seen this year. awesome.
- Arseny89, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2Soviet officials made no official announcement as to the cause of the crash and all the details of the accident were archived and marked "Top Secret."
Yeah, he was probably flying drunk. - alpha94, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2Love the dog space suits!
http://englishrussia.com/?p=711 - gerrylazlo, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2RIP Laika.
- TrevorBradley, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2Having been to the American Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C., several years back, it's awesome to see the other side of the picture. (Actually Kudos to Air and Space for having so much Soviet stuff)
The exhibits shown here remind me somewhat of the World Expo in 1986 here in Vancouver, Canada. The theme was Communication, but both the US and USSR did a space theme for their exhibition halls. The Soviet hall was amazing compared to the American one. - gurtfrobe, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2Yuri Gagarin scientific research ship!
- Napiertt, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2Great stuff. I've always been a fan of the Russian (Soviet) Space Program. It's a damn shame the Soviet Union collapsed, as man would probably have been on Mars by now. They gained great knowledge of long term effects of space flight through their space station programs, and were building a next generation heavy lift booster. Anyway, I hope man gets on Mars by 2025 or so.
- flyingsquirle, on 06/11/2009, -0/+2Love that part too!
- dna513, on 06/11/2009, -1/+3Wow did not know they had a space shuttle program. I like how the Russians use liquid rocket fuel. It dose not leave a trail of smoke behind.
- falafelkiosken, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1In Soviet Russia museum visits you!
- Hellahulla, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1Liquid fuel though is horribly unstable. It caused more than it's fair share of problems with the soviet missiles that used it. I think even taking liquid's advantages into account solid fuel is still seen as better.
- EvilGrouse, on 06/11/2009, -1/+2I had to block 22 cookies to view that site. Lame.
- frequentFlyer, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1Yeah! It was like Chekov from the new Star Trek movie was reading it. Weird.
- Chairboy, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1It LOOKS like a direct copy, and it's essentially identical aerodynamically, but the guts are _completely different_.
- GilThielander, on 06/12/2009, -0/+1Even Peter Griffin says it's old after hearing it two times.
- SystemicThought, on 06/11/2009, -1/+2The first Russian "stratospheric missile" is dongtacular.
- Arseny89, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1What I was getting at was that you're too concerned about the actual race aspect of the space race. That was 40 years ago, time to move on. The space race should be remembered as the grand accomplishment for humanity that it was, not the dick waving competition that your original post made it out to be.
- sleestakslayer, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1That was pretty funny.
- inactive, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1Actually I think its kind of a funny way to go in a morbid way, sort of one of those drunks who always want to one-up everyone at a party with their crazy antics
"What, you drive your automobile drunk, I will fly this MiG-15!" - Hellahulla, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1All with the (not so) hidden intent of developing missiles that could reach the other side quickly and easily without being shot down. Very noble.
- Hellahulla, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1You're trusting Fortean Times for reliable and intelligent information? You do know it's less credible than Bizarre Magazine?
- Hellahulla, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1Some people seem to miss the :P Oh well.
Still, those damn Rooskies did a lot more for space exploration and study in the early days than the US did. Shame the USSR collapsed and ***** their funding. -
