Ad impressions in the process of compiling this list? ZERO. Suck it, Forbes. - failedpimp, on 05/30/2008, -3/+63Buried for not knowing how to make a slideshow that doesn't reload a page.
- innerpenguin, on 05/30/2008, -1/+26Spoiler: mostly counties in California and New York.

***** you douchebags - tunafizzle, on 05/31/2008, -0/+11Thank you good sir.
- sw33tsarin, on 05/31/2008, -0/+11California, New York and New Jersey. What a surprise.
- zephc, on 05/31/2008, -5/+14Bay Area - represent!
- geovrybody, on 05/31/2008, -0/+8Agreed. These Forbes lists are quite obnoxious in their presentation. Can't a list just be a list?
- indiancompanion, on 05/31/2008, -0/+6would be much better if you can search any zipcode and get the data
- CrashKC, on 08/25/2008, -0/+6Digg feature request: Auto-bury ***** Forbes slide shows.
"Can't a list just be a list?" Not when you don't give a crap about your audience and are solely focused on maximizing ad revenue. - Qong, on 05/31/2008, -1/+5I live in 10012. I'm pretty sure that Manhattan real estate, in any of the zip codes on the island, is more expensive than any of the zip codes outside of the area on that list. That's why people move out of the city to build their giant homes, it's cheap.
I don't know how they're coming up with those numbers, but good luck buying something that's 7,000 square feet for a few million dollars in Manhattan. - lostarchitect, on 05/31/2008, -0/+4queens? are you serious? anyway, amagansett is on long island near the hamptons.
- lostarchitect, on 05/31/2008, -0/+4the jersey communities are very near NYC, and are full of summer homes for NYC's rich.
- Zapita, on 05/31/2008, -0/+4quote:
"Why is Pandora big in Beverly Hills?
An amusing little bit of trivia about Pandora, the online music discovery service that I've written about a few times (here's my most in-depth review). Yesterday's CNET News feature on Pandora mentions in passing that the most popular zip code of Pandora users is Beverly Hills' 90210.
Pandora is only licensed in the US. To use it you have to provide your US zip code, but that's the only check Pandora does on your location, I believe. So if you're outside the US, and you want to use Pandora, what are you going to do? Pick a zip code out of the air perhaps? And if you did, which zip code might come quickest to the mind of a non-US citizen? Possibly one that features in the title of an internationally syndicated soap opera? Even as someone who has never seen Beverly Hills 90210 on the TV, I am aware of it from reading TV listings. Call me cynical, but could that explain Pandora's apparent popularity in that part of California? (Of course, I don't endorse anyone falsifying their zip code. No, not me. Not a good idea.)" - onestrawplz, on 05/31/2008, -0/+4NJ actually has a lot of wealthy towns, it's not entirely dirty and industrialized. it's the second wealthiest state, according to the census bureau: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_jersey#State_popu ...
- TheMachine1, on 05/31/2008, -3/+7Areas of high real estate inflation and people selling their souls working for some scumbag corporations.
- gregmo, on 05/31/2008, -0/+3How has forbes not changed the way they list things?
- TheSabre, on 05/31/2008, -0/+3I'm surprised that Bethesda, MD or parts of the Georgetown area in DC aren't on the list. Some of those houses are far more costly than these. This list is backwards, it should be showing the smallest houses that cost the most if it wants to list the most expensive zip codes. Any zip code in the US can have an expensive mansion in it.
There is a house listed in 20007 (Georgetown area) at 1/10th of an acre for $6.75M. There is a 3BR townhouse currently listed for $4.5M. - tech42er, on 05/31/2008, -0/+3Oh yeah. NJ, LI, Westchester, and CT have very nice, affluent areas.
- rockefeller2, on 05/31/2008, -0/+2There was a time recently in the US that people were amazed at rising home values. I think they now refer to it as a bubble.
- NJHiker, on 05/31/2008, -2/+4I guess you thought wrong.
- pr0lixity, on 05/31/2008, -2/+3Driving through Atherton and the surrounding cities is ridiculous. Situated near Woodside and Menlo Park, you could literally take a tour of the homes of celebrities in about 45 minutes. My friend and I drove around for fun one day and saw the homes/castles of Steve Jobs and Larry Ellison. My sister went to the Menlo School, which is located in Atherton, and you could literally walk down the street to Jerry Rice's house. She would go to school with the sons and daughters of CEO's, which is never fun when you're happy to drive to school in your 1982 ford mustang softtop :(
- Dan137exe, on 05/31/2008, -1/+2I thought New Jersey was a bit of a surprise though. There must be a connection between expensive zip codes and high state populations / population densities.
- brundlefly76, on 05/31/2008, -0/+1You can digg a Forbes slideshow, but you have to put the list items in the first comment.
- scotishstriker, on 05/31/2008, -4/+5looking at a list like that gets me pissed off
- bcrussett, on 05/31/2008, -0/+1Decent content, ***** delivery. Typical Forbes gallery. I switch tabs for a few seconds and I come back to a completely different page. And Forbes just got 20 hits courtesy of me. AJAX anyone?
- aserer511, on 05/31/2008, -1/+2dugg down for consistency,. digg hates the rich
- innerpenguin, on 06/01/2008, -0/+1I agree on Bethesda. I am moving there in two weeks, and found that area is definitely up there. The neighboring city of Chevy Chase is pretty expensive, too.
- lohphat, on 05/31/2008, -0/+1Inaccurate. Woodside, CA was not listed. See: http://www.dupontregistry.com/Homes/search/Details ...
- lougoose, on 05/31/2008, -0/+1I live right near #19 (Kenilworth, Illinois). Yeah, there are some really friggin nice houses there.
- wraptor347, on 05/31/2008, -1/+2Menlo School is ridiculous. I was surprised Atherton, Hillsborough, Portola Valley weren't higher. Especially since Forbes actually listed Hillsborough as the wealthiest city in the country.
- JohnnyKinder, on 05/31/2008, -0/+1I was not even a little bit surprised...lets look at census from Oakland county, and Los Gatos (where I live)
Oakland County Median Household Income - $64,293
Los Gatos Median Household Income - $119,194
And Los Gatos is only 23 on the list. - kolinkoolface2, on 06/01/2008, -0/+1there were 100 spots...? oakland county is roughly the size of rhode island too. There is pontiac and waterford enrolled in there..... two very poor spots of michigan.
- rockefeller2, on 05/31/2008, -0/+1How about Stockton?
- gogog0, on 05/31/2008, -0/+1wow the bay area cleans up that list. danville (100) here, 10 mins from diablo (17) and alamo (33)
- Princeamor, on 05/31/2008, -0/+1Packing up! Getting ready to move!
- tech42er, on 05/31/2008, -0/+1Manhattan certainly has the highest price per square foot.
- bunkka, on 05/31/2008, -1/+2*****, California is expensive...but how could I leave? what a great state, even with rape housing prices
- KMartSheriff, on 05/31/2008, -0/+1Stockton? Ugh...
- pg6752, on 06/06/2008, -0/+1This is actually not true. . .its Statistics. It seems off, but its not. It would make the most sense that 10012 or areas like that would be the most expensive. . . . Here's the deal, they arent looking at price per square foot, they are simply looking at where the most expensive homes are in 1 town or city. New York's range in price varies, where as Atherton, Rancho Santa Fe, ALpine are tiny little areas with only high priced homes. You CANT find anything under 2 mill in Atherton right now, but you can in NYC. Thats the difference. It makes sense, but it doesnt. . .you know?
- ydt89, on 02/24/2009, -0/+1I agree as well. Reloading page slide shows make my computer BSOD! :(
not really.. but it was quite funny, i clicked the link to the slide show and found my self staring at a blue screen of death. -.-; - KMartSheriff, on 05/31/2008, -0/+1California FTW
- viewofeverlast, on 05/31/2008, -2/+2Wait.... NJ is at the top of the list???
- shanveryl, on 06/15/2008, -0/+0I grew up near Alpine. There are mostly 200 year old homes colonial homes in Alpine, all nestled in the woods. The future queen of Jordan - Queen Noor - grew up there. Her dad was the CEO of Pan Am. Yet an article in People magazine described her as having humble backgrounds, just a "jersey girl." People have no clue about NJ. All they know is the turnpike and the Sopranoes.
Last year it was the wealthiest state, but I think it's second this year (as defined by per capita income). - mobiusred, on 05/31/2008, -0/+07th, no wonder i can barely afford rent!
- digggggggggggg, on 06/01/2008, -0/+0ha ha you're poor.
