- shlemielo, on 11/02/2009, -0/+29We visited Xian a couple of years ago. We booked a tour up to Mount Hua, and honestly, it was freaking scary. Way too many people were trying to get up the mountain, and there were sections where we felt like we were going to get pushed off the mountain. Regardless, it was an amazing view.
Here's a pic I took out the window of a gondola with a cheap Canon Powershot.
http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/7551/img1211c.j ... - ecodater, on 11/02/2009, -1/+26i had no idea how spectacularly beautiful china is
- inactive, on 11/02/2009, -0/+14most americans don't know how beautiful most countries are because their media demonizes them at every chance.
- khail250, on 11/02/2009, -0/+11Which is why I love telling people come and visit this place.. Everyone has a stereo type in their minds about China, but once they spend >1day here, there perception does a quick 180
- Aurora1610, on 11/02/2009, -1/+12Something else I wanted to add:
Being a Chinese who lived in America for most of his life, i never realized how beautiful my home country is.
I am really hoping one day i will enjoy these scenery in person as my ancestors did for the past thousands of years.
Thank you for submitting this, i think it is a great reminder to us how beautiful our planet is, and why we should do our best to protect it so our children could have a chance to see it too. - Gojirra, on 11/02/2009, -1/+12I was expecting to see photos of satanic monuments and mountains of burning corpses.
- inactive, on 11/02/2009, -0/+8That's exactly what this article doesn't mention- half of these places are totally overrun with people.
- 15step, on 11/02/2009, -0/+7I find the most amazing point of these pictures to be that each one of them was taken within the boundaries of but one country.
- Aurora1610, on 11/02/2009, -3/+9Just put away the personally opinions and appreciate the beauty that is earth, then again..
i foresee comments about the Chinese government in 3...2...1 - digggggggggg, on 11/02/2009, -0/+6The truth of the matter is that most chinese people actually like their current government. Why? It's because the communists have brought economic growth and relative prosperity that the chinese people have not seen for centuries. Most of the chinese people could care less that they are missing some ideological concepts because they are seeing progress, earning more money, and are able to afford more than they ever could before.
Just look at what happened when the chinese people decided to "take their home back from their masters" the first two times last century: first from the imperialists, then from the nationalists. There was famine, displacement, and general economic stagnation. The Chinese people finally found a government that kinda works for them, and apparently that's not good enough for us westerners, so we say they should overthrow their government one more time, and face the turmoil of a regime change yet again? Haven't they suffered enough?
There are two sides to every story. The problem is, the news over here only reports one of them. Guess which one that is. - AeroZeppelin, on 11/02/2009, -1/+6I was expecting tanks and soldiers marching down the street suppressing protesters, because that's obviously such a common thing in China.
- taibo, on 11/02/2009, -0/+5Actually you could say, thanks to the Chinese gov't, these lands have been preserved and protected against the many companies (often American) who want to use them for factories, mining, logging, etc.
Same story, other side. - nigelmansell, on 11/02/2009, -1/+6These sites are beautiful because they are left alone and unpolluted by the chinese government and its people
On the other hand....
http://digg.com/environment/Banned_pictures_Pollut ... - BeyondSky, on 11/02/2009, -0/+5The fact of the matter is "China" is a very complexed issue. And most people's "stereotype" of China is heavily influence by their angle and emotion. The beauty, the diversity, the breadth and elegance of the Culture, the recent break-neck economic growth are all true, so are the pollution, the wide-spread of corruption, the amazing deterioration of morals and spirit, and the evils of commys.
So depending on what you are talking about, one does not affect the truth about they other aspect.
For those satisfied with the current Communist rule, I tell you, both China and Chinese people can be way better than what they are now. This was a country that no so long ago ( about less than 200 years ago, enjoys half of the World's GDP, leading the World in civilization for at least one thousand years). China's living standard now should have been at least be on par with south korean and Taiwan if no Commys.
For those who never understood how rich, civilized, and beautiful China is and more so was, I tell you this is the only Country in the world that has a continuous and prosperous civilization that have a well-developed medicine system over two thousand years ago, had almost unbroke history documentation for at least 25 hundred years, had systematic education and official selection examination system for 15 hundred years etc etc.
An American Chinese
currently living overseas who cannot go back because the policitical persecution by the Chinese government - Aurora1610, on 11/02/2009, -0/+4oh wow. That must of been an amazing feeling riding in that cart.
- GB570, on 11/02/2009, -0/+4those caves are amazing!! I've never seen anything like it...the ones around me are nice but nothing like that...
- damack, on 11/02/2009, -0/+4China is a pretty amazing nation when it comes to diversity they have it all.
Big glorious cities, mountains, deserts.. Of course it is a pretty BIG nation too! - e2superman, on 11/02/2009, -0/+4Many actually do. Do some research on their political structure there.
- rockerbug, on 11/01/2009, -5/+8haha check out Danxia Mountain...
- piemcgee, on 11/02/2009, -0/+3Thank you so much for posting this. I feel like an entirely different world has opened up.
- taibo, on 11/02/2009, -0/+3Yeah it's common knowledge that the local tours are more geared to showing local culture and life, while the 'Western-friendly' tours are highly sterilized for those easy-to-offend foreigners.
- Pinkertinkle, on 11/02/2009, -0/+3way to ruin the caves with the neon lights
- pwner, on 11/02/2009, -0/+3* I don't read replies. =P
To be a good troll, you must have thicker skin. - ryanonfire, on 11/02/2009, -0/+3Commies!!! /s
- khail250, on 11/02/2009, -0/+3worry about your own country dude.. The US has bridges falling apart, a 9/11 site that is still barren and has an unknown future after 8+ years, has a military stretched so thin that PTSD is not viewed as a disorder anymore. What has our FDA done with all the "clinical breakthroughs" that go through millions of recalls and lawsuits. Easier to play the blame game than to look at problems back home.
- shlemielo, on 11/02/2009, -0/+2Naw man, I just used Finally Fast.com!
But seriously, if anyone wants to try to submit this on Digg as well, you are welcome. I have no illusions of actually getting anything on the front page. - katatoniq, on 11/02/2009, -0/+2Is that correct English?
- morrissey79, on 11/02/2009, -1/+3I live in China and have yet to see all this beauty. I know it's there, but most of unspoiled China is in the north and west, and 90% of us expats live in the south and east.
Although yesterday we got about 6 inches of snow in Beijing, and for one day before it melted all the dust, spit, dog ***** and ciggarette butts were covered by crisp clean white. Made me homesick. - dtstuff9, on 11/02/2009, -0/+2MIRROR:

i love this place... - chongqingking, on 11/02/2009, -0/+2a christian nation dominated by evolution-deniers is quite scary too.
at least the Chinese overlords know well enough to promote Carl Sagan's Cosmos in Chinese:
www.tinyurl.com/cosmoschinese - okawei, on 11/02/2009, -0/+2well it is digg, anything with God in it automatically gets a bury brigade
- bde5, on 11/02/2009, -0/+1We have a beautiful planet... for at most another 50 years.
- nyxerebos, on 11/02/2009, -0/+1:-) I so hope Danxia means 'fertility' in some ancient dialect.
- moleculeye, on 11/02/2009, -0/+1Incredible collection. Unfortunately my ADD forced me to scroll quickly through the last couple dozen. Will return to them in another life.
- Arlene124, on 11/02/2009, -0/+1Great pictures never new china had so many beautiful places. Thanks for sharing
- Kaiyu, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1Why can't we just appreciate the stunning photographs without getting any politics / ego stuff in between.
- xster, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1ohhhhhhhhhhhh, I have the EXACT picture of the rice terrace that I took last year!@$#%$^&
EXACT angle, EXACT weather, EXACT distance, EXACT composition - Khiva, on 11/02/2009, -1/+2Incidentally, this picture of yours is now the number 1 link on the reddit homepage.
Now, we have the following two facts in front of us:
1) Digg steals all its content from reddit. This fact is Axiomatic and May Not Be Questioned.
2) You posted your picture 13 hours ago to imageshack, and the picture on reddit was posted 2 hours ago to imgur.
Therefore, we can only conclude the following: You, shlemielo, must have created some sort of time portal which allows you to see into the reddit homepage 12 hours before it exists, so that you may steal precious reddit content before it is even posted. Clearly this new digg technology will only be used to nefarious ends, most likely by MrBabyMan to awaken Skynet. Shame shame _shame_ on you shlemielo for trying to pass this stunning picture off as your own. - ruoyunhuang, on 11/16/2009, -0/+1The ownership of these islands is of question. Both china and Vietnam used to control part of this region in history. You can easily find this out on wiki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paracel_Islands
although I don't like current chinese gov either, you should be objective in such a disputable issue, instead of claiming china is "shamelessly claiming..." without a strong evidence. But I do agree that both China and Vietnam should take more peaceful action to handle this issue, ESPECIALLY china. - nyxerebos, on 11/02/2009, -0/+1Watch Hero (2002), amazing cinematography set in some of the places shown in the article.
