- sniffymcdougle, on 11/09/2009, -0/+7There was a great photo in this weekend's NY Times of the Brandenburg Gate then/now.
- pwarnock, on 11/09/2009, -0/+4I'll never forget the day the Wall came down.
- Nintendesert, on 11/10/2009, -0/+3Yeah, they're really living in a ***** now.
- Turkman182, on 11/09/2009, -0/+3Pretty cool stuff. Hopefully we learn something from this.
- Tyrghast, on 11/10/2009, -4/+6It's still sad that the legacy of the Berlin Wall is associated with this:
"Reagan: Mr. Gorbachev tear down this wall
Yay Reagan wooo good jorb!"
When the truth has little to do with Reagan at all. - codyman, on 11/10/2009, -0/+2today, a wall fell (peacefully), ending a blockade of culture and freedom to partake in simple things we take for granted everyday such as even listening to the music we want to hear, without fear from being punished by the goverment... imagine the government coming to your home and forcing you to turn off your "uncultured" music and listen to what they tell you? Underrated historical event if you ask me
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 11/10/2009, -1/+2Reagan. He may have been ineffectual, pompous, abrasive, and wrong on just about every issue, but you have to give credit to his marketability. His legacy is that of a time that never existed and the subject of neoconservative romanticisms everywhere in what appears to be a perpetual right wing indulgence in the cult of personality.
- appleseed1234, on 11/10/2009, -1/+1Auschwitz is not considered the most famous and notorious piece of European infrastructure?
- stevenbrown, on 11/10/2009, -1/+1I was just reading about the berlin wall earlier, now this appears on the FP...
- inactive, on 11/10/2009, -0/+0Amazing coincidence, isn't it...
- hippykiller, on 11/10/2009, -2/+1"uncultured" Music... Hmmm, have you heard some of the things people listen to these days..? Where do I sign up to be a music Nazi... Oh, wait....
- burrdugg, on 11/10/2009, -3/+1The inhabitants of East Berlin never got in a much better situation after the wall came down.
I guess that dousing West Berlin in abundance was only a pretext for the Americans to fling their capitalist propaganda at the Soviets, because East Berliners got the brunt of the deal after the show was over.
