- Djokuuskaj, on 01/25/2008, -1/+29this is funny, because i actually am in Yakutsk, RU. look at my profile. it is currently -42 C
- fkr3, on 01/25/2008, -1/+17But at least she's keeping her bed warm....
- inactive, on 01/25/2008, -5/+20Hey look, your story got FP'd!
now stfu... - yohnstoppable, on 01/25/2008, -2/+16I dugg the story, because it was interesting. I could care less who submitted it. The whole point is that the content matters, not the submitter...
- snotrokit, on 01/25/2008, -1/+14I used to live in Northern Minnesota, about 45 minutes south of International Falls. I think it was in Jan/Feb of 96 we had over 30 days where it NEVER went above zero, and bottomed out somewhere in the -60 range, with wind chills well over (or under) -100. That sucked bad. Diesel engines would not run. at all. Tires would go thump thump thump down the road as the flat spot was frozen into them from sitting. Things just stop working at that cold. Locks freeze, oil turns to putty, not fun.
- hdar3415, on 01/25/2008, -5/+16I live in Northern Illinois, right now it feels like the coldest place on earth. Just a few weeks ago it was 60° now it's -5.
- cusoman, on 01/25/2008, -1/+11International Falls? Come on, as a born and bred Minnesotan, it is widely known here that the coldest place is Embarass, MN because of its location in a low-lying basin, which collects cold, dense air. Yes, we're all also armchair Meteorologists here too :)
- strictnein, on 01/25/2008, -3/+12Ok, seriously, those may be the most annoying links ever in an article. Yellow background with bold dark text set amongst light gray text?
- unclerichard, on 01/25/2008, -2/+11Dugg for listing all 8 on the same page.
- DreKor, on 01/25/2008, -0/+8I wasn't happy when I went to work this morning and it was -6 F. I guess it could have been a lot worse.
- boberto, on 01/25/2008, -1/+9I'm in Florida, but reading this story made me feel cold. What happens when it's -80 F outside? Do your eyes freeze into place?
- robdavy, on 01/25/2008, -0/+7At -25c, the contents of your nostrils freezes (from first hand experience)
- jhendrickson, on 01/25/2008, -1/+8I was bringing the garbage to the end of the driveway this morning and was thinking it was warm. It was -3.
We've had -20 nights (without wind chill) for the past week up here in Duluth. I'm ready for summer! - nsweet, on 01/25/2008, -10/+16Drum roll.......Hillary Clinton's soul
- DreKor, on 01/25/2008, -0/+6For those of you keeping track, that's -21.1 C

http://www.newzeal.com/theme/bases/Russia/VostokJa ... - tandy400, on 01/25/2008, -1/+6I'm agreeing with yohnstoppable. People that bury decent articles just because of the submitter are as much of a jackass as the people that were bitching in the first place.
- Chompy, on 01/25/2008, -1/+6She has many. She sucks 'em in like that dude in Mortal Kombat.
- ReadItAndWeep, on 01/26/2008, -0/+5Did you know that minus 42 degrees is the only temperature where Fahrenheit and Celsius are the same?
/the more you know - NovaBandit, on 01/25/2008, -2/+7I thought Cheney brought the warmth of Hell wherever he went...
- Buelldozer, on 01/25/2008, -0/+4At -30 most people will not go outside without considerable prompting and much clothing. At that temperature most automobiles will not start if they've been left outside unprotected all night. Your snot will freeze in your nose within a few minutes.
At -70 your eyes will be the only thing showing, everything else is covered up with at least two layers of clothing. If it isn't then ti's gone. It will freeze solid or succumb to frostbite in less than 3 minutes.
I've never experienced -80 so I can't comment on that one. - winterpeg, on 01/25/2008, -1/+5I recently read in a reputable magazine that Winnipeg,Manitoba, which is located in Canada is the coldest place in the world with a population over 500,000.
- dewyjuhl, on 01/26/2008, -1/+5Is it just me or do all us Minnesotans get really excited when a digg article mentions our state? And go on to make sure everyone knows that we are indeed from minnesota
- spyd3rweb, on 01/26/2008, -0/+4Yeah thats because nothing exciting EVER happens here. That and I think everyone here thinks they're better than all the other states.
- signal15, on 01/26/2008, -0/+3wtf
- Dylson, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3Go experience it and tell us what happens.
- iceman5664, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3No, they're the same at -40.
- mal1964, on 01/25/2008, -1/+4I call it the stinky town, because of the paper mill. you can throw a rock into Canada from there.
- tendonut, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3Please tell me you are referring to like Rome, NY. Then I'd believe you. I'm from Buffalo.
- bxblox, on 01/26/2008, -0/+3You're voting for her aren't you
- catalysis, on 01/25/2008, -2/+5Hillary Clinton's vag
- richter, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3I've heard that expression many times in Alaska.
- mozillaman0, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3I live in Goose Bay, Labrador, which is in Canada. It's been below -35 celsius for about all of the last 5 days. On Monday it was -49 with the wind chill and it taxed my school's heater so much that it set off the fire alarm. It is supposed to be -48 again tomorrow. Fun.
- qber, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2Did you read either article at all?
- kingvik, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2She's a succubus.
- allaboutdatiki, on 01/25/2008, -3/+5Is it colder than the balls on a siberian yak?
- Thuktun, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2International Falls is indeed stinky. I noticed that distinctly when I was through there last year.
Anyway, the record for lowest Minnesota temperature is exceeded by to those in Utah, Colorado, and Montana.
http://ggweather.com/climate/extremes_us.htm - signal15, on 01/26/2008, -0/+2You don't count wind chill when figuring out how cold it is. I'm in the Twin Cities also, and -10 is nothing here. Back in 1996, it hit -45F. My '83 GTI which sat outside all night still started though. Go figure, the U of MN still didn't cancel classes.
I lived in ND for a couple of years also, and it hit -52 once. I woke up in the morning to find that my bedroom was 31F because the furnace couldn't keep up in the old house we lived in. - robdavy, on 01/25/2008, -1/+3Pfft, here in Edmonton (Alberta, Canada, pop ~1m), it's forecast to be -13f / -25c on Wednesday & Thursday. That's pretty normal for here this time of year. Hopefully we'll see Spring in April or so.
- PabloMac, on 01/25/2008, -2/+4This is a really cool story.
- bamafun, on 01/25/2008, -3/+5you mean she has one? lol sorry I couldn't resist.
- vanodorf, on 01/26/2008, -0/+2How does it feel at -63C:
Interview with two weather observers who were at Snag the morning the coldest temperature in N. America was recorded:

- havokzero, on 01/26/2008, -0/+2Inside Hillary Clinton's vagina.
Damn it, Kevin... where the hell is my "delete comment" button? My seemingly clever joke was less original than I expected. - danlowlite, on 01/25/2008, -0/+2Yeah, I live/work right on the IL/WI border. Crazy cold! I'm on the tail end of a little flu and the shivers last night were bad.
- eighties, on 01/25/2008, -1/+3What have I learned after reading this post? That Siberia is cold.
- lechilipep, on 01/26/2008, -0/+1it's a treat when the temp falls to 32F here in Louisiana...wish it would get colder...
