http://rorr.im/ - FakingFamous, on 07/01/2009, -0/+11really sweet map graphic. hopefully this makes front page
- jaybol, on 07/02/2009, -0/+7The longest road trip I have conquered was from Durham NC to Orange County CA...I love Bob Dylan but I don't recommend large doses of 70s era Bob Dylan when driving through Utah...it does something to your neurons that causes strange feedback loops and passengers in the car wake themselves up by saying "Patty called the cops" and so on
- PhoenixFlames, on 07/01/2009, -0/+6Reminds me of when I was a kid. Great article!
- cheerfulcynic, on 07/02/2009, -0/+5its already down, wtf
- BeShirtHappy, on 07/01/2009, -0/+5I love eating at the local dives!
- IanG73, on 07/02/2009, -0/+4Wow that site went down fast.
- BoneStamp, on 07/01/2009, -0/+3I would also put the Montreal Comedy Festival on there, which starts this weekend.
http://www.hahaha.com/ - ianferrell, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3I sleep in my car on road trips. Hotels are only for when I'm traveling with more than two people or when we take a plane.
- DirtyVicar, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3New York City and a $221/night hotel stay is not even remotely congruent with "budget road trip". If they put a little effort into it they could have found cool things to do in upstate New York on a budget.
- jeexbit, on 07/02/2009, -0/+3Roadtrip!!!
Why do I get the feeling that they are going to do a remake of National Lampoon's "Vacation" any day now? - tjspang, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2anyone going on a road trip on a budget, get some of your friends, all pitch in for the room, and go to Wisconsin dells waterparks
- egeo2000, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2I'm going on a cross country trip for a month with a friend. Just hitting up some major cities and national parks. Sleeping in the car mostly and trying to get best mpg possible, I'm hoping to only spend $800 max. We'll see though, I start July 6th!!!
- Super6, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2Here are some random US cities placed on a map:
- wtbuser, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2How did they put San Antonio and not Austin?
- scotchw, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2doesn't look like the Enlarged version of the map graphic, tho.
Any other mirrors ? - Barackalypse, on 07/02/2009, -0/+2Six Flags in Gurnee is a better deal if you group has an even number of people. Noahs Ark (the biggest waterpark in the Dells, or anywhere for that matter) is now $31.49 for a one day pass bought online while Six Flags in Gurnee is $27.50 (buy one at $54.99, get one free).
- smacksaw, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1If you're in Western NY or Minnesota, the Lake Of The Woods area of NW Ontario is just spectacular. Most accommodations are about CAD$70 and there is all of the fishing, hiking and photography opportunities you could ever want. It's truly stunning. Minnesota may be the place with 10,000 lakes, but NW Ontario got the quality ones.
Make it a clockwise or counter-clockwise circle and hit the Wis Dells with the kids on the way back. - newquayweb, on 08/02/2009, -0/+1very nice entry! this is like a light in the midst of the darkness to all those who wants to have the best roadtrips of their lives!
- rtcrooks, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1Over-the-line tourney in SD? I will be there with red cup in hand.
- zagatbuzz, on 07/01/2009, -0/+1Great recommendations for the festivals, and the best budget friendly hotels.
@beshorthappy - So true! - HAL90000, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1I see they're using budget servers as well...
- db0255, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1Durham, NC? Jeez, you weren't at Duke were you?
- MaxUSA, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1I would have put Milwaukee on there, myself, especially considering the season. Summerfest runs June 25th - July 5th this year, but there's always something going on. Not to mention it's just a friendly city overall. More often than not, a brat and a smile can get you by.
- toddc612, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1It's not really in the summer though, innit? More like late spring..
- Rikushix, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1It's far from a recessional deal, but everyone should try to check out Pemberton Festival next summer. I went last year, the inaugural one, and while it wasn't cheap - $240 for three days - it was worth every penny. Nine Inch Nails, Coldplay, Jay-Z, Tom Petty, The Flaming Lips, Wolfmother, Metric, Sam Roberts, Wintersleep, Vampire Weekend, Crystal Method, MSTRKRFT, Deadmau5, Carolina Liar plus over 50 other bands and DJs? Yes please.
edit: oh, and the Tragically Hip, which means nothing to 99% of Americans but is pretty much permanently etched in the psyche of every Canadian under 40 years old. - SenoraObscura, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1Sure, if you call August "late spring".
- newquayweb, on 07/27/2009, -0/+1getting back to basics when it comes to travelling will sure give you a different mind bugging experience and who knows, you might discover things that the conventional travelling can't offer.
- SenoraObscura, on 07/02/2009, -0/+1They forgot to mention Burning Man.
- r0b1, on 07/02/2009, -2/+2Gas prices are on the way back up. It'll be cheaper to fly.
