"This species, despite its enormous size, does not pose any significant danger to humans. It is a frequently cited example when educating the public about the popular misconceptions of all sharks as "man-eaters". They are actually quite gentle and can be playful with divers. There are unconfirmed reports of sharks lying still, upside down on the surface to allow divers to scrape parasites and other organisms from their torso. Divers and snorkelers can swim with this giant fish without any risk apart from unintentionally being struck by the shark's large tail fin." - cms04t, on 07/09/2009, -1/+27The opening at the back of that huge mouth is a little larger than your fist, no worries diver.
- preppypoof, on 07/09/2009, -2/+27i would still ***** myself if that was me in the photo

- trizzleatl, on 07/09/2009, -1/+9I'M A SHAAAAARRRRRRRRKKK!!!!!!!!
- trizzleatl, on 07/09/2009, -1/+8Whale sharks can't swallow anything larger than a quarter. You can swim with them in the Atlanta Aquarium here.
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -0/+7I'M A SHAAARRRKK!!!
- bencho, on 07/09/2009, -0/+7May I ask how a whale shark can be playful with divers?
A simple pat on the back in jest would probably shatter a diver.. - megamod, on 07/09/2009, -0/+6OM NOM NOM NOM
...only thing is even if she does end up in its mouth she won't go anywhere because of their "food filter" and how small their throat is (I heard an estimate of about as small as a quarter). Like someone mentioned before they are filter feeders and mainly feed on plankton. - tipdog32, on 07/09/2009, -2/+8I am going to Honduras in a few days to swim with these giants. Can't wait!
- ancientdinko, on 07/09/2009, -0/+6agreed, I shat once upon seeing a little eel!!!
- sameer768, on 07/09/2009, -2/+8I'm a shark!!!

- angusm, on 07/09/2009, -0/+5The first whale shark to surreptitiously evolve to be able to take in larger prey is going to have it _made_.
Know-it-all: "Don't worry, it's just a whale shark. It's harmless, it couldn't eat you if it wanted to ... now where did she go?"
Whale shark: "Om nom nom nom". - orlyfactor, on 07/09/2009, -1/+5I think that was some reference to Brit's bad teeth, but done in a very unfunny way.
- robertonuno85, on 07/09/2009, -0/+3No, would you accidentally swallow a watermelon?
Although their mouths are huge, their throats are actually quite small. They feed on plankton for the most part. Rarely would they be seen feeding on small fish. - Daxx22, on 07/09/2009, -1/+4I don't care if it's harmless, if I saw that behind me (without expecting it) I'd probably make like a squid and squirt.
- spookyttws, on 07/09/2009, -1/+4Well, apparently everyone here is in on the whale shark's scheme to kill us all. I reject these whale shark sympathizers and urge you to not trust any whale shark you meet...
- leprix, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2God damn, dude. Stop posting ***** comments.
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -0/+2That's what she said.
- woodlandfairy, on 07/09/2009, -1/+3Whale sharks filter feed and eat plankton, so no, it could not eat the diver
- sameer768, on 07/09/2009, -1/+3That was your penis
- AlanYuri, on 07/09/2009, -1/+3Brits have bad teeth. After 40 I'm assuming they have no teeth. Meaning a bite from one wouldn't be anything to be worried about.
If you have to explain a joke it's not funny. - bbrigg1, on 07/09/2009, -1/+1Huh?
- VernonShaw, on 07/09/2009, -2/+2Whale shark or not, nothing should be that big as well as have its mouth THAT close to me.
- newquayweb, on 07/15/2009, -0/+0reminds me of finding nemo...
- ygeoff419, on 07/09/2009, -1/+1OK Digg.... the first dude who posted the fact this is harmless is not included in this, but the rest of you that keep pointing out the same damn thing over and over and over, please stfu! It's harmless we get it.
- joshuaer, on 07/09/2009, -2/+2Steve: Let's cut to the chase. There are two kinds of people: sheep and sharks. Anyone who's a sheep is fired. Who's a sheep?
Dr. Zoidberg: Uh excuse me? Which is the one people like to hug?
Steve: Gutsy question, you're a shark. Sharks are winners and they don't look back 'cause they don't have necks. Necks are for sheep.
Steve: Now the first order of business is to blame everything on the guy before me. Professor?
Prof. Farnsworth: I'll ruin you like I ruined this company! - Meesher, on 07/09/2009, -1/+0Jonah is not impressed.
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -2/+1they dont eat people. nothing to be afraid of.

- fryke, on 07/09/2009, -6/+1Rather, it's not funny because it's not, let's say, politically correct. Or correct, for that matter.
- inactive, on 07/09/2009, -6/+1The occasional diver is a added protein bonus for the whale shark.
