- unicronband, on 02/27/2008, -5/+484In all fairness, the ORANGE JUICE has not only been translated for you, but capitalized as well.
CAPITALISM FTW! - inactive, on 02/27/2008, -2/+358It tastes better in English.
- bonkeykong, on 02/27/2008, -9/+305We call that the lottery in our country.
- ScottooMc, on 02/27/2008, -68/+351Thats a great idea. We should do that here in America but reverse. Maybe then illegals will at least learn English.
- Brian48216, on 02/27/2008, -2/+246In some korean stores in the US they'll have a sign up that says in english "We do not accept checks" While the korean right underneath says "We accept checks"
My Korean friend pointed it out to me when one guy was looking for cash while a korean customer was sitting there writing out a check. - DeviantDragon, on 02/27/2008, -6/+190More of a "foreigner" tax
- Blazers, on 02/27/2008, -10/+190"How stupid do I think the Americans are?"
- Conwaysb0718, on 02/27/2008, -12/+191is it more expensive cuz its "imported"??
/sarcasm - plainOldFool, on 02/27/2008, -9/+160I bet you they would buy bottled water. Jus tell them that it came from France.
- paperclips4u, on 02/27/2008, -3/+133I know I'm probably being cheap, but I'll go with the jugo...
- ikcilabd, on 02/27/2008, -2/+104This reminds me of that russian museum. A sign points left and says "entrance" in russian for $2, A sign ports right and says "entrance" in english for $15.

- airwalkery2k, on 02/27/2008, -3/+93The purpose of a lottery is for a million stupid people to make one stupid person look smart.
If I keep on trying... - serif69, on 02/27/2008, -1/+89I'll take the second one; it sounds exotic.
- jeexbit, on 02/27/2008, -14/+95'round here we call it a "gringo tax"
- Pureeviljester, on 02/27/2008, -4/+69discrimination!
- inactive, on 02/27/2008, -4/+67I bet we could take the same mexican dish and rename it seven times and they would believe it was actually something different (tortilla with cheese, meat and vegetables)
- ikcilabd, on 02/27/2008, -1/+51As Dave Ramsey says, " The Lottery is a tax on the poor who can't do math..."
- jtrobot, on 02/27/2008, -0/+48If you keep your mouth shut we'll name a dish after you. What's your name?
Jimmy Chonga. - Ahweb, on 02/27/2008, -1/+49It's just the translation's cost, amigo :P
- turner050, on 02/27/2008, -9/+52No american would want to buy juice from that little nasty ***** stand anyway.
- vornan19, on 02/27/2008, -6/+49Are you a lolcat then?
- pintomp3, on 02/27/2008, -2/+44the orange juice is for americans, so it's a bigger size. that's all.
- FLAESHAL, on 02/27/2008, -7/+46Does it really matter whether or not they are illegal? If you're going to tell one group to learn english because they're immigrants you should do the same for every other immigrant.
- thatspsychotic, on 02/27/2008, -1/+39Oh man. Excellent.
- vkorobkax, on 02/27/2008, -2/+38Russia has a pricing system - it's more expensive for foreigners/tourists to visit museums. There's an art gallery in Moscow where entry costs $20 for tourists, but about $0.25 for natives. Not really a stupidity tax.
- cdigioia, on 02/27/2008, -0/+35That's reasonable, a lot of strange middle-of-nowhere places in the world have Heinz ketchup, it isn't exactly difficult to transport. Likely in rural S. Africa? I would think not, but it's not as absurd of a question as you make it out to be.
- techweenie1, on 02/27/2008, -12/+47I'm really in favor of imposing this "stupidity tax" on those in the US who don't learn English.
- Brian48216, on 02/27/2008, -1/+34Just thought I'd throw this out before people get misinformed-
I only noticed this in one store. If you go to another korean store and it says we do not accept checks, there exists a perfectly good chance that they probably don't accept checks.
I just had a horrible vision of some dumbass at a korean store demanding they accept checks. - mypreciousss, on 02/27/2008, -5/+36and ur doin it rong.
- ScottooMc, on 02/27/2008, -13/+43Heres the thing Akaji. If American settlers would have tried joining Cherokee tribes for jobs, health care, education, etc then there would be an argument for us to learn Cherokee. This isn't simply an issue of "we were hear first so learn our language" as your cartoon puts it. Your are also overlooking the fact that Argentina was part of the Inca Empire who's native language was Quechua. Spanish wasn't spoken there until after the Spanish had conquered South America. No different than what happened here in North America in the US. Clever attempt but poor logic. BTW I do think that what happened to the Native Americans was a tragedy.
- thatspsychotic, on 02/27/2008, -0/+30Maybe, except it says "jugo de naranja" which from what I remember is definitely orange juice.
- ScottooMc, on 02/27/2008, -8/+36Your right, I think I made the illegal point because most illegal immigrants don't make the attempt to learn or speak English. I make this claim with first hand experience living in South Texas. I have worked with many legal immigrants from Korea, China, Japan all of them attempt to speak the language no matter how much they may struggle.
- ichunxo, on 02/27/2008, -3/+31Oh, racism makes sense? Of course, why didn't I think of that?
- peaceninja, on 02/27/2008, -0/+27You learned Dutch in order to pay the normal amount in Rome?
- morcheeba, on 02/27/2008, -5/+32but if you knew "de naranja" translates to "dilluted with urine", you might think again.
- zinc6471, on 02/27/2008, -7/+33its not human nature, it's how we are socially constructed. Suppose if we all grew up not knowing about race, would we be inclined to separate into ourselves by color. We are socially constructed from birth, we inherit our parents stereotypes (positives and negatives) we act on those stereotypes unconsciously, therefore it seems like it is human nature, but it isn't.
- NathanielJ, on 02/27/2008, -1/+26Good catch jkleinfled, you should write a letter to that shop owner and tell him that he doesn't know his own language that you probably studied for two semesters in high school.
- CiXeL, on 02/27/2008, -1/+25you mean it gets sucked up in administration overhead costs and never actually makes it to the teachers.
- rrutia, on 02/27/2008, -6/+30Gringos/ Americans are rich! therefore, they should pay more.
- This is what everybody thinks in the region. - isaactwito, on 02/27/2008, -3/+27Clever attempt, but poor logic. All of your examples are of one group of people taking over another by force. How I see it is that people who come to the US for jobs, etc. should be able to speak English. They aren't trying to impose their culture on ours, but they are trying to take advantage of our society. In that situation it is if nothing else respectful to be able to communicate. I'm a cashier part-time to pay for school, and can tell you that it isn't to anyone's benefit to have customers who you cannot interact with because of a language barrier. This language barrier also leads to social barriers, learning barriers, career barriers, and all kinds of things that just make it harder to live in this country, lowering standards all over. Imposing culture onto someone is wrong, but if someone comes into your culture they should be willing to adapt to it and not make everyone else make adjustments for them.
- carlos259, on 02/27/2008, -3/+27dugg for creative title:)

- TnTBass, on 02/27/2008, -3/+26Wait, don't answer that!
- girlpirate, on 02/27/2008, -0/+22did you miss the beginning of her sentence? the store was IN the US.
- midjunkie, on 02/27/2008, -3/+23The big difference is that in South America, at least in Chile/Argentina, we don't use the word 'gringo' in a derogatory or disparaging way. Every gringo who's been down here knows that.
- airburst, on 02/27/2008, -5/+25Why is there nothing like this in America? Oh yah, it's illegal and discriminatory.
Sorry, I'm just REALLY tired of the hypocrites in this world. - bassgoonist, on 02/27/2008, -8/+28Because we all know there are no black cashiers at target...
- jsd8cc, on 02/27/2008, -4/+24To those digging down plainOldFool, it's a Jim Gaffigan bit.
