- eastwood24, on 10/28/2009, -0/+20Nice. Now all I need to do is find a couch I can crash on for a few days and I can actually afford to go on vacation.
- bigteebo, on 10/30/2009, -0/+18Might be fun to just buy a handful of connected flights to take a tour of airports around the US. Or it could be a horrific nightmare.
- blueice2511, on 10/30/2009, -0/+9This sale has been going on since Tuesday and today is the last day of the sale. Tickets must be purchased by midnight PST...so hurry up!
- unluckier, on 10/30/2009, -0/+8Taxes and government fees, yes. The total is just under $100 for a round trip.
- craftyguy, on 10/30/2009, -0/+7tax + airport fees + omg911terrorists fees
For example, each way: 25 ticket + 3.50 tax + 9 airport fee + 5 omg911terrorists fee = 42.50
or 85 round trip.. - inactive, on 10/30/2009, -0/+7The latter sounds likely
- RizzosBack, on 10/30/2009, -0/+6They're preselling tickets in an off time period 3 months in advance.
Somehow I think they won't do too bad off this promo. - Lucas123, on 10/28/2009, -1/+7It's on!
- clarient, on 10/30/2009, -1/+7I've never been disappointed with Southwest. My family recently flew out to California from Texas to visit relatives, and the flight there - booked with Southwest - we were upgraded for free, simply because they had the room, to a non-stop flight rather than the two-flights-with-a-layover we were booked for.
On the way back, booked with Delta, they tried to bump us from 7:15a to 1:00p, had us running all over the airport in a desperate plight to catch a connecting flight in a city we were never even meant to be in, and we had to come back to the airport later that night to pick up our luggage. The right hand had no idea what the left was doing and it made me never want to get on a plane again. - Super6, on 10/30/2009, -1/+6Southwest doesn't charge for checking bags
- SPECOPS, on 10/30/2009, -0/+5also the $25 tickets are one way, and 0-374 miles, so LA to LV - small hop like that; But at least they don't charge extra for an isle/window seat or extra for your 1st & 2nd bag.
- gitargr8, on 10/30/2009, -2/+7That's funny, I've had the opposite experience. I almost fly exclusively Southwest because they're always on time, and don't charge a bunch of extra fees. Wish I could say the same for Delta and Alaska, I avoid them at all cost now.
- taylor219, on 10/30/2009, -0/+5Here ya go! Couches EVERYWHERE
www.couchsurfing.com - Eurynom0s, on 10/30/2009, -1/+5It could be fun if your idea of fun is getting anally probed by TSA workers.
- jeffambo, on 10/30/2009, -2/+5So tax is 100%?
- spookyttws, on 10/30/2009, -1/+4That is absolutely brilliant. While the other airlines are working together to raise prices across the board (which is essentially price fixing) Southwest is throwing it in their faces and using it as a brilliant marketing tool. It may be heavily restricted, but it's more of a symbolic promotion.
- mishabear, on 10/30/2009, -0/+3I thought it might be all flights to Detroit or Cleveland or Buffalo or someplace as charming in winter...
- adith, on 10/30/2009, -0/+3@Super6:
Without even getting into the argument of whether it's stealing to use less of a service you paid for, I'll point you to Southwest's Customer Service Commitment -- http://www.southwest.com/about_swa/customer_servic ...
"With respect to all of our fares, Southwest Airlines does not prohibit or penalize what is commonly known as “hidden city” ticketing, nor does it prohibit or penalize what is commonly known as “back to back” ticketing. “Hidden city” and “back to back” reservations and tickets are authorized for travel on Southwest Airlines. It is important to note that your luggage will be checked to the final destination as shown in your reservation record. Should you choose to deplane at a stopover or connection point, you will be responsible for making arrangements to have your luggage delivered to you."
It's not stealing if they explicitly permit it. - beachtrader, on 10/30/2009, -1/+3Yeah, but its not Southwest charging you these taxes and fees. You would have to pay them on another airline too...
- Elranzer, on 10/30/2009, -1/+3Dumps them in the middle of the Ocean (or flies them to Canada).
- JoEBlack982, on 10/30/2009, -1/+3Oakland/San Francisco to San Diego is about 500 miles but they're only charging $25.
- rusty0101, on 10/30/2009, -1/+3I didn't know Southwest had International flights of uner 365 miles...
- Super6, on 10/30/2009, -0/+1They don't prohibit getting off earlier because that saves money, they don't let you stay on to a city you didn't pay for, something they'll notice if the next flight is booked and you get the boot.
- stburke, on 10/30/2009, -0/+1I'll admit that not having the bag fee is nice, but under the Frontier pricing structure they're normally 10-15 bucks cheaper (at least when I've flight shopped) for the 'economy' ticket. Under the 'economy' fare you have to pay for the bags etc. so it ends up more than Southwest if you check but not carry-on. I usually spring for the Frontier 'Classic Plus' which is about 20 bucks more but I get more frequent flyer miles, free TV (on the Airbuses) and two free bags. That pays for it right there. Plus, I fly out of Denver a lot and taking the pedestrian bridge saves a few minutes. So there's my rationale.
- stburke, on 10/30/2009, -1/+2Or you could have been a little less ambiguous in how you worded your question. You asked what 'somehow' means, and I graciously provided. You're welcome.
- Zoshchenko, on 10/30/2009, -1/+2Notice those two very important words: "restrictions apply" - like you have to be able to travel when nobody else wants to.
- Ghostwo, on 10/30/2009, -1/+2Alright, poor people who can't afford American health-care! We can finally afford to leave!!!
- JoEBlack982, on 10/30/2009, -0/+1Actually it's round trip if the departure date is within the time frame.
- askantik, on 10/30/2009, -0/+1Exactly... or when you don't have vacation days. Bah. BTW, wtf. The Atlanta airport (the busiest airport on the planet, literally) is not even available on their website, so it doesn't help me anyway.
- taibo, on 10/30/2009, -0/+1Are flights this empty? Seems every time I fly domestic it's crammed to the walls, but then again I probably fly during peak hours.
- TrevorBradley, on 10/30/2009, -0/+1Our family just flew from Seattle to Oakland for $49 a seat, each way, on Alaska Airlines. Taxes (not too bad) and checked baggage were extra though. Seemed a pretty good deal at the time with Seattle just over the border and the Canadian dollar near par with the US, considering a similar flight from Vancouver is something like $330 round trip per seat.
- SPECOPS, on 10/30/2009, -0/+1This author of this article doesn't think its such a good idea: http://www.lfpress.com/travel/2009/10/17/11431941- ...
But then again, they do not mention SOUTHWEST who doesn't seem to play by the same set of rules (albeit in the consumer's favor in most cases) - SPECOPS, on 10/30/2009, -0/+1√ http://imgur.com/pgOUel.png

A one-way fare of more than 1,000 miles costs $100. - pmalone224, on 10/31/2009, -0/+1"The fares are available for purchase through Thursday"
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU- - TalahRama, on 10/30/2009, -1/+2I just made my reservation to come back from my family's place in Massachusetts. The free checked baggage sounds awesome, since my girlfriend and I are heading there for Christmas. :D
Thanks, Digg / Southwest! - LeroyJenkems, on 10/30/2009, -0/+1What is?
- russ3, on 10/30/2009, -0/+1Theyre seating system has gotten out of control. Lining up in numerical order is def way worse than assigned seating.
- schnikies79, on 10/30/2009, -0/+1I flew with southwest twice every week for nearly two years (usually left on friday, back on sunday or monday). I only had one bad experience. We were coming into Midway and I swear the pilot landed across the runway instead of the length of it.
That was the roughest and most sudden stop I've ever felt. - Jenle7498, on 10/30/2009, -0/+0Many flights have been cut, so more common than not, flights are usually fully booked.
- stburke, on 10/30/2009, -2/+2Somehow:
–adverb
1. in some way not specified, apparent, or known.
—Idiom
2. somehow or other, in an undetermined way; by any means possible: She was determined to finish college somehow or other.
Idiot - adith, on 10/30/2009, -1/+1No, but if you check bags they'll go to the final destination on your ticket, not the place you actually get off at.
- adith, on 10/30/2009, -2/+2And it's based on the mileage from origin to destination. Book a flight from Boston to Baltimore via Chicago and, tada, $25 flight to Chicago, provided you don't check any bags of course.
- Super6, on 10/30/2009, -3/+3Oh, so you're talking about steal from the airline that is giving you a $25 ticket?
- juliusthecat, on 10/30/2009, -1/+1You are a douche.
- russ3, on 10/30/2009, -2/+1Can you find any other round trip for $100? I mean if you only have $25 you shouldnt go on vacation.
- juliusthecat, on 10/30/2009, -2/+1That was so clever how you pretend like you don't know I was asking. That must make you really cool. At first I thought you were full of ***** - now I am certain you are full of ***** since instead of telling me what you meant by "your flight was screwed up somehow" you posted the definition to somehow.
***** - juliusthecat, on 10/30/2009, -2/+1What does somehow mean?
- DirtyVicar, on 10/30/2009, -2/+1Er yeah, but it's one way... who the hell flies one way, except maybe the Jonas Brothers and the Terminator?
- bmw7777, on 10/30/2009, -6/+4Round trip plus tax should put you at around $100 round trip. $25 ha!!!
