- rblancarte, on 11/03/2009, -2/+20I am more amazed at the following two facts:
- how was this video posted from the future?
- When was 2009 a super special leap year with a Nov 31? - kolding, on 11/02/2009, -1/+17Here is two other clips:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAHvSXfgu_w - bruuks, on 11/03/2009, -1/+11Nov 31, 2009.
This ship is from the future. - KrayzieKyd, on 11/03/2009, -0/+9Last few seconds have terrible clipping, turn your volume down.
- Braxo, on 11/03/2009, -1/+9Would have been a convenient time for somebody to attempt suicide from the bridge.
- Briggykins, on 11/03/2009, -1/+8Dugg for the profile picture of the Youtube submitter.
- svendm, on 11/03/2009, -0/+7I've seen a great failure at a close bridge passing. A sailboat tried to go under a bridge that was a meter too low by trimming in the sails tightly, making the boat list heavily to the side, bringing the mast down a bit.
Only once he got under the bridge he was out of the wind and -clang!- up went the mast and hit the underside of the bridge, causing him to get stuck between two I-beams! - crackerjack20, on 11/03/2009, -1/+7I think you mean "Here ARE two other clips"
- nicktomyskins, on 11/03/2009, -0/+6From the youtube information:
The largest cruise ship in the world Oasis of the Seas cruised under the Storebealt bridge Denmark 15 minutes past midnight 31 of November 2009. The ship is 72 meters high and the bridge is 65 meter. But with very high speed and funnels lowed down they had a margin of 1 meter and 25 cm up to the bridge. The ship had the highest speed it can have so it plowed itself down in the sea so it could go under. it will not stop in Europe but go directly to Florida. - Awwzm, on 11/03/2009, -1/+7Missed it by 'that' much.
- walgman, on 11/03/2009, -2/+7Spoiled by the bloody screaming. Why do Americans scream at things?
- TheOther1, on 11/03/2009, -0/+5He annoys the hell out of me.
- jsnchmpn, on 11/03/2009, -1/+5To give you something to complain about.
- Charun, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3The bridge is 65m high. The ship is 72m high.
So, no, it wasn't designed to allow this ship to pass under it.
Low tide, telescopic chimneys and the ships ability to increase its draught allow it to pass under the bridge with ~20 cm between them. - dougm68, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3I couldn't see *****.
- KSUdesigner, on 11/03/2009, -1/+3Yes, anything that floats can sink, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will. Just like any plane can crash, but it doesn't necessarily mean it will.
- IHaveIssues, on 11/03/2009, -0/+2Footage on first video at 0:50 shows it all, close call!
- brewyet, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2USS New york had 7 feet
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02gVBRGcUnw - Kvasaari, on 11/03/2009, -0/+2The amazing part is how they build the ship just high enough to pass that bridge in full speed.
- bighairyones, on 11/03/2009, -0/+2Landing in the jacuzzi.
- svendm, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1Yeah, I read about it. In addition to what's in the summary, they naturally waited in the low tide.
- igyigyigy, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1If the ship is smaller than the bridge, the odds are close to 1
if the ship is NOT smaller than the bridge, it's much closer to 0.
done - psion01, on 11/03/2009, -0/+1This was to be its only passage under that bridge. The Oasis of the Seas will be doing Caribbean cruises.
- TTSkipper, on 11/03/2009, -1/+2Going on a cruise on this ship on January 9, 2010, it really looks like an amazing ship. http://www.oasisoftheseas.com
- shaka776, on 11/03/2009, -1/+2Reminded me of the people standing on top of the building in "Independence Day" waiting for the aliens so they could be friends...the whole time I was waiting for their pwnage.
- tinkafoo, on 11/03/2009, -2/+3I love the shot from the deck: CELL PHONE CELL PHONE CELL PHONE
- UniversalGuy, on 11/08/2009, -0/+1I never really thought about the tide. Good point.
- geminus, on 11/03/2009, -1/+2Yeap, she's coming to Florida. My company is on it.
- JustinTX, on 11/03/2009, -1/+2Because you touch yourself at night.
- mike42979, on 11/03/2009, -1/+2From the youtube comments, this actually makes sense to me!
the ship purposley went fast because the boat rides lower at faster speeds. - JustinTX, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1I prefer to touch myself in broad daylight.
- UniversalGuy, on 11/03/2009, -5/+6Oh wow a ship passed under a bridge that was designed to have ships pass under it!
Truly amazing! - rickbrown888, on 11/14/2009, -0/+0I wonder what the record is. Anyone know?
- psion01, on 11/03/2009, -1/+1But it does seem a little counter-intuitive, doesn't it?
"Sir, we'll only have a foot of clearance when we go under that bridge."
"Understood, Pilot. Full speed ahead!" - walgman, on 11/03/2009, -1/+1And you don't? Weirdo!
- Charun, on 11/03/2009, -1/+1Cruise ships are required by law to carry more than enough lifeboats to rescue the total capacity of passengers and crew.
- bighairyones, on 11/03/2009, -2/+2I agree. All that whooping and jumping around like a monkey is not dignified.
- Thuban, on 11/04/2009, -2/+1Wow No *****. And after the the people are in lifeboats professor? Maybe they could lash them all together make their own little island. Sing ***** Kumbaya.
This is just one scenario. So how about the engines are dead and their is a Hurricane/Typhoon bearing down on the ship and it has to be evacuated FAST. Or it's on fire and half the ship is uninhabitable.
You're still talking about having to rescue a 5000+ people. There comes a point when bigger become irresponsible. - bighairyones, on 11/03/2009, -1/+0Don't know why this is being Dugg down apart from a few spelling mistakes. SlothesAnus is right. All that whooping and clapping. Shut up for ***** sake and enjoy the moment.
- grizz311, on 11/03/2009, -2/+1Now that's what I call a "tight squeeze"
- furburglar, on 11/03/2009, -4/+2The ship's captain is going to be getting some serious pussy out on the high seas.
- Thuban, on 11/03/2009, -4/+1They keep building these things bigger, but anything that floats can sink. So how do you rescue 5000+ people in the middle of the ocean if something happens? You' would need a dedicated empty freighter and even then, it would be like the Louisiana Superdome during Katrina till they got back to port. I know there are some rescue personnel somewhere going "I hope it doesn't go down on my watch.
- battmann, on 11/02/2009, -5/+2Better hope tide is down when ever the ship comes and goes!
- alanocu, on 11/03/2009, -5/+2I wonder if Charlie from 'Numbers' could do an algorithm to figure out the odds of that ship making it through? With the assistance from the lovely Amita of course.
- hanglerfig, on 11/03/2009, -7/+1This ship will go down like the Titanic, not in the literal sense, but no way can they afford a 4000+ person luxury liner when people are losing their homes and stuff. Will be surprised if they run 50% occupancy for the time being. Unless they have Charo, or American Idol contestants aboard, of course, and then I will spring my life savings to absolutely be there.
