- astorygirl, on 06/25/2009, -2/+44I have no problem carrying my luggage to the airplane if the price is right. I usually travel light anyway.
- Barackalypse, on 06/25/2009, -1/+41Fantastic, this should make it much harder for my luggage to end up on the wrong plane.
- chase47, on 06/25/2009, -1/+33Ryanair is a discount airline. The customers flying Ryanair are looking for a discount and are willing to carry their luggage on board.
If you want someone to put your baggage on the plane, pay the premium. It is that simple. - Arock66, on 06/25/2009, -2/+30Save 20 pounds? Heck yea I'll carry my luggage.
- brianbb98, on 06/25/2009, -1/+24Goes too far? You get what you paid for.
- ScottMcIntyre, on 06/25/2009, -2/+25I've flown Ryanair- and, having experienced their attitude to customers and cost-cutting, I'm sure it won't be long until passengers will be flying the planes too... /s
- zonisgod, on 06/25/2009, -6/+28A friend of mine was not allowed to take a bottle of expensive wine from Italy to Spain on one of their flights, so he had to chug the bottle in front of the stewardess before she let him on.
I don't know if that's all that bad. - GaltShrugged, on 06/25/2009, -2/+22OMG!!! You pay $10 for a flight and you want world class service. Jesus Christ.
- threenuns, on 06/25/2009, -3/+23You know what? I've flown for 2Euros with Ryanair within Europe, Milan, London, Berlin, Frankfurt, seriously, 1 or 2 Euros, including taxes and whatnot. And that was not a "once in a lifetime deal", I get them all the time.
For that price, I'll gladly hold my piss for 2h and carry my luggage to the airplane and even put it in the storage room myself! I'd even walk to the plane on the runway! - choopie911, on 06/25/2009, -1/+17Are you ***** kidding me? It's Ryan Air, the whole point is that they have flights cheaper than train tickets, etc. You get what you pay for. I wish Canada had a $20 flight provider. I'd piggyback the pilot to his seat for that.
- yehaww, on 06/25/2009, -1/+14It's called "Budget Flying", if you don't like it, go pay $500 to fly another airline.
- scotchw, on 06/25/2009, -1/+13I'm with astor
Not only do I not think they're going to far, at all, but I would personally take this further.
I would gladly carry other passenger's bags to the plan for... $2 per bag, maybe? - TVarmy, on 06/25/2009, -0/+12I swallow 7 days worth of clothes before boarding the plane. Until they weigh me before pricing my ticket, I think I'll beat their schemes.
- asskicker32, on 06/25/2009, -1/+12*****. Ryanair has proven time and again that with £5 flights, they can charge people to do anything.
- frizzipazzi, on 06/25/2009, -1/+12If it means I save money I can also fly the airplane and mime the safety instructions
- david630, on 06/25/2009, -1/+11i don't know how long ago that was but with tax and their other 'hidden charges" I've never flew for anything less then 40 euros
- inactive, on 06/25/2009, -0/+9Hey Emecks, are you a good swimmer?
- threenuns, on 06/25/2009, -0/+9I just entered a Random date (Sept. 24) from Dusseldorf to London (which is quite a distance), costs: ticket is free, online-check in 5euro and taxes are 1euro.
So in total: Sept 24. Dusseldorf - London, 6Euro TOTAL. What more can you ask for?
And btw. last time I flew Ryanair was about a month Ago. in 7 days I'll be flying from Mallorca (island in Spain) to Dusseldorf for 10Euro TOTAL
Now bitch about that! - emecks, on 06/25/2009, -4/+13I'd rather fly AirFrance.
- digggggggggg, on 06/25/2009, -0/+7Soon after that they'll eliminate the planes entirely and make it a bus service. After that: hiking.
- ronintetsuro, on 06/25/2009, -0/+7As long as Ryanair is allowed to tell the person with 4 pieces of luggage to get on another airline, fine.
- coastiefish, on 06/26/2009, -0/+7"Ryanair Goes Too Far"
I say Ryanair doesn't go too far enough! - Jnewman83, on 06/25/2009, -0/+6You don't have to pay 30 Euros to fly...but don't bitch when this is the service you get
- david630, on 06/25/2009, -3/+9ryanair is awful I've never had a good experience flying with them
- cam0man, on 06/25/2009, -3/+9they make it sound like the passengers are slaves for carrying their own luggage - most passengers don't check their bags anyways so they're already carrying their bags. Or like United where they charge for checked bags, most checked bags are carried to the plane in anticipation of being stowed in the overhead, only to run out of space and be need to be checked.
if you don't like it, don't fly...why waste time bitching about it? - digggggggggg, on 06/26/2009, -0/+5That didn't process correctly in my head until I realized that you meant "pounds" the currency, as opposed to the unit of measurement. Well done!
- digggggggggg, on 06/25/2009, -0/+5Meh, kinda falls under the "too soon" category.
- justok, on 06/25/2009, -0/+5he'd be baggage now.
- diulei, on 06/26/2009, -0/+4I don't mind - hell sometimes I prefer it. Workers tossing your luggage into the cargo / onto the ramp don't exactly baby it.
- CaptObvious, on 06/25/2009, -4/+8How lazy are we? Goes too far? YOU'RE SITTING IN A CHAIR.....IN THE SKY!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jETv3NURwLc - cornelje, on 06/26/2009, -0/+4The first 70% or so of tickets sold are free/cheap. After that prices go up dramatically. This makes it so that business travelers (aka the ones who don't care about pricing) pay for the brunt of the costs.
They also buy planes that the other airlines ordered and backed out on, for about 1/2 the cost.
They fly using small less busy airports, and demand they get good pricing for bringing in business.
The downtime between flights is usually about 15 minutes.
No free food or beverages.
They have a hell of a business model actually. - Gumphlumph, on 06/26/2009, -0/+4With flights cheaper than a pack of gum, what do you expect? Just wish there was an equivalent airline in the US.
- ifruit, on 06/26/2009, -0/+4You are allowed liquid if you check it.
- ifruit, on 06/25/2009, -1/+4Why would you get dugg down? I liked your story.
- yehaww, on 06/25/2009, -1/+4If it'll save me more money, I'll gas up, check the tire pressure and de-ice the plane as well.
- choopie911, on 06/25/2009, -0/+3Exactly, isn't that the point of their entire airline?
- mohsenxp, on 06/25/2009, -3/+6RyanAir isn't even THAT cheap.
I just got back from a 10 day holiday in Greece, I flew with EasyJet. Same flight (albeit slightly different date) with RyanAir would have cost me £40 more.
They need to stop going on like they're the cheapest operator out there because they're not. - bobartig, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3Why seat them? If we've learned anything from developing countries, its that you can fit more people in an enclosed space by making them all stand back-to-chest, and hanging onto the outsides. If there was an IndianAir equivalent to RyanAir, you know they'd find a way to shove twice as many people in the same plane.
- Konrad9, on 06/25/2009, -0/+3Yeah, I'm sure they would really want a heavily drunk passenger that badly : |
- davdev, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3I have never flown them, but a few months ago I was checking flights from Dublin to London and it was 1 Euro. Can't complain about that
- mercurysquad, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3RyanAir made it possible to travel from Sweden to Spain for the price of a nice pizza. I don't really mind carrying my baggage an extra 200 meters. You people are lethargic.
- bobartig, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3Wait, if the flight is free, they get $5 for checkin, and then $1 for taxes, er, how exactly are they staying in business? If they sell 150 tickets at that price, they get $750. Does that even cover the cost of fuel?
You can cut, and cut, and cut, but eventually, you run into hard limits like the cost of planes and maintenance, cost of fuel, etc. that do not budge just because you want to be cheap. I don't for one minute believe that they've somehow found a way to run an airline 10-15x as cost-efficiently as the competition, simply by eliminating 2-3 bathrooms per plane, and having no baggage service. - davdev, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3Really, the last 10 flights I have been on I have carried my own luggage, that's the point of carryons
- DonAlfred, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3RyanAir is like public transportation. And I don't have anything against that.
- Thorpe, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2...and get lost.
- Jeepinator, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2You get what you pay for.
- chevriley, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2they just have a formula... first 20% of passengers on a flight get €5, next chunk get €15 next get €50, next get €150. if the people who book for €5 or €15 don't turn up (they probably booked ten at a time, business travellers in advance not knowing their schedule) ryanair doesn't have to pay airport taxes. if their ticket included them they pocket the money if it didn't, its no loss.
- topapito, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2I've flown Ryan Air several times. Only because the flight wasn't available in any other airline. But it's exactly like they say, you get what you pay for. That's the reason why there are other airlines. Airport security? Go ahead, see if at any other airline you get through it any faster. It won't make a bit of difference except that people who would have never been able to take a flight will now have the opportunity. I see nothing wrong with it. Wait till you hear about them wanting an onboard casino! Cause they do!
- seanmc303, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2To be honest with the prices airfare is at, I'd be content to take a heavy sedative, get literally stuffed into a compartment (seat optional), and wake up at my destination (hopefully with minimal molestation). Come to think of it, the TSA does a pretty good job of molesting everyone, so I guess if I was asleep, who am I to complain?
- thinkb4utype, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2I remember a Mr. Bean skit. He knew how to pack for Ryanair. He carried two suitcases, but one was inside the other. That would save him £20.
