Rural Nebraskan Not Sure He Can Handle Frantic Pace Of Omaha

theonion.com — Lifelong North Platte resident Fred Linder, 46, revealed Monday that he doesn't think he could cope with the fast-paced hustle and bustle of Omaha. "Oh, sure, I bet it'd be exciting at first, going to see 9 p.m. showings of movies," Linder said. "But I just don't think I could put up with all that hub-bub for more than a day or two."

  • mohrt, on 01/20/2009, -0/+5Oh yeah Omaha has some great stuff. The Henry Doorly Zoo is the bomb. Qwest center, Old Market, it's pretty cool. But lately the gang activity in Omaha is getting pretty bad. A good friend of mine on the police force was shot and nearly killed a couple months back (i'm sure you recall.) The guy that shot him was a gang member out of LA I believe. There are lots of them in Omaha now.

Yeah, I've heard the cow display is great, but nothing compared to the rodent house. Oh, wait, downtown? Thrift stores and pawn shops? Naw, thanks. I'll take Omaha any day.

  • Smaulz, on 01/20/2009, -2/+5I'm definitely not disagreeing with you. I know it's hard for some on Digg to believe, but I like living in Omaha. I've lived all over the country, (CA, NY, MA, FL, CO, KS) and we keep ending up back here. It's a great place to raise a family (two daughters), and there's plenty to do if you know where to look (Orpheum, HD, [one of the best zoos in the country], Holland Center, CWS, museums, music venues [SADDLECREEK w00T! Not a venue per se, but still], bars, theaters, more restaurants per capita than anywhere else in U.S., etc. etc.). I've got hard feelings about the Qwest Center because of all the money dumped into the Civic Auditorium literally months before Qwest was announced. Now, with the new stadium, it just feels like Fahey is throwing good money after bad. However it turns out, I still like Omaha, and will probably live here for the foreseeable future.
