- Huangism, on 08/07/2008, -2/+84guys those are poor's people homes, they cannot afford a roof
- inactive, on 08/07/2008, -2/+56Am I the only one who thinks many of these look like screenshots from a Sims game?
- DragoonWraith, on 08/07/2008, -1/+55As a New York resident who has worked in the real estate development business for the past few years, I can say that while roof decks and balconies can add a lot of value to a building or apartment, simply the presence of one does not make a house necessarily just for the rich. I know several buildings with such things that are really quite middle class (at least, relative to the generally very high New York City prices, which is somewhat offset by salaries a bit higher than elsewhere and the fact that cars are not necessary in the city). It's an extra feature, but not nearly as valuable as, say, location, the size of the unit, the quality of the materials in the unit, the presence of an elevator and/or doormen...
Not to say that some of these aren't clearly for the rich. The one with the caption "my favorite!", for instance, looks like a private house on top of a building - and that would cost a fortune. There are also a number which I suspect are on top of quite valuable buildings, but the presence of the deck does not create that value - even without it the apartments would demand quite high prices. - vrikis, on 08/07/2008, -4/+47it all looks like tiny lego or something it doesnt look real haha
- MacEnvy, on 08/07/2008, -0/+22If you lived in the middle of the city, wouldn't you want some trees and plants around?
- Alex2, on 08/07/2008, -5/+24I too.. have a balcony.
Guess it's a 'luxury' in NYC. - ZenMojo, on 08/07/2008, -1/+17I love the fact that they've found a way to fit so much greenspace in the city. Actually, you could save a lot on energy costs and control temperature by building more roof-top gardens and I hope this catches on more.
/hippy - jorichter, on 08/07/2008, -1/+16I am a NY resident a can vouch that most these would have cost a ***** load (most likely). But isn't it kind of weird to be looking at their rooftops?
- MikeyMoose, on 01/30/2009, -2/+15I wouldn't call it "Rich People's..." Some are pretty crappy with a few plants here and there...
- yayster, on 08/07/2008, -1/+12Yeah, but you are in Texas. Hahahah!
- Daniel591992, on 08/07/2008, -1/+11Why do they all build a forest on their balconies?
- MisterEX, on 08/07/2008, -0/+8Would you also say that some of those rooftops could probably be for the residents of an entire apartment building and not the property and use of a sole, individual owner?
- inactive, on 08/07/2008, -0/+8Looks like they fixed the comment system, so down you go!
- hitmikey, on 08/07/2008, -1/+8No rooftop mini-putt, no care
- Ghostalker, on 08/07/2008, -2/+8I didn't know having a grill on your roof made you rich.
- inactive, on 08/07/2008, -1/+7I'm from NYC and u can bet even the crappiest one of those rooftops will cost you upwards of at least 5 million dollars.
- Dasmonger, on 08/07/2008, -1/+7No Worse.. he is in Houston.....ugh.
- neuen, on 08/07/2008, -2/+7does anyone remember hey arnold's roof, now that was nice
- ulmedas, on 08/07/2008, -0/+5They might also be the roof tops of commercial buildings, where the residents (i.e., companies renting space and their employees) can eat lunch and have small office parties. I have been to a couple of such places. It is quite nice, but hardly exclusive.
@NisterEX: There are often rooftop spaces that are shared amongst the residents of a building (esp. if it is a co-op) - RenoSJ, on 08/07/2008, -0/+5Looks like Playboy X's apt. Which is now mine. Too bad I never call Dwayne to hang out.
- OC73, on 08/07/2008, -4/+9Not to brag. (Ok, maybe a little.) :)

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b351/m0f0/RE/072 ... - inactive, on 08/07/2008, -0/+5I have a lake.
- trilliongrams, on 08/07/2008, -0/+4I was just coming here to say that.
- dcmcderm, on 08/07/2008, -1/+5It's sad that this passes for "luxury" available only to rich people in NYC. Cities suck to live in. I don't make very much money but I have a big back yard and a double garage that I wouldn't trade for these prison cells.
- Briii, on 08/07/2008, -1/+5no helipads?
- thelizardreborn, on 08/07/2008, -0/+4Maybe for a day. But if one day of food was all those children needed, they wouldn't be starving.
- CrazyDEX, on 08/07/2008, -0/+4I have a balcony too.... it's called my fire-escape. But I bet it has a better view than one or two of these
- inactive, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3All the money wasted to live in an urban shoe box could probably afford you a house and the gardener to do the yard work for you.
- fatTJ, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3The thing is you do get dugg down...
- cromulent742, on 08/07/2008, -1/+4i prefer not having to do yard work every weekend, crazy huh?
- inactive, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3Cancel your internet, sell your computer, and donate the proceeds to UNICEF (or some *****) if you're that worried.
- aaronadms, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3Looks like they are HDR images also. That's probably what's giving them the fake 3D look (on top of the long lens).
- inactive, on 08/07/2008, -1/+4Not a single one of those rooftops is more impressive than, say, my backyard. Sacrifice a lot to live in the big city
- pilot3033, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3There are some more elaborate "rooftop gardens" in this set, but the idea of having one isn't a new concept, nor is it one reserved for "upper middle class-rich" people.
These shots just happen to all be in manhattan, where if you're on the top floor, you're paying a lot just anyway.
I think it's very cool actually, I wouldn't mind being able to have a nice little green patch on my roof. - inactive, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3Alex2, I think you just might be on to something there...
So is having a car... and not being eaten by giant rampaging monsters. - alpha94, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2Well I guess if you grew up in concrete jungle that's your cup of tea.
- inactive, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2And you can do even better in Montana, without the scorching heat OR living in the fattest city in America.
You are both suckers!
/too easy... - inactive, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2That's more than 9000!
- depro9, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2I install green rooftops in Chicago. It's a lot of work & can be a lot of money but they can make a world of a difference. Please note us "poor people" can easily install a little green on our rooftops also, get creative ftw. ;)
- Nextrix, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2Why do I picture "Sim City" when I take a look at these photos...
- Scottievm, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2There are very expensive areas in both Brooklyn and the Bronx.
- richardbeasimer, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2I saw resembalances to the penthouses of Playboy-X and the one atop the Hotel in the "late check-out(?)" mission for GTA IV
- bicyclethief, on 08/07/2008, -1/+3This looks like isometric pixel art.
- vilago, on 08/07/2008, -3/+5this is what happens when you live in the city. not enough green so you make up for it by having potted plants all over the place. i for one would rather live in the mountains. much more valuable to me
- inactive, on 08/07/2008, -1/+3Who the hell wants to live in Houston? It makes my balls sweat just thinking about it.
- Gee1004, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2The Sims II
- charlie55, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2pretty soon either playboy or dwayne wont be hanging out much, i would guess.
- thedogfatherx, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2A balcony is a luxury in New York. That sucks. It would be really cool to have a pad in New York that is high up in the air but it would get real old after awhile. I like my big green backyard with trees and the river. I look like a billionaire comparing my backyard to these rich peoples yards.
- Doomsdalicious, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2dugg for being realistic and making sound financial decisions
- inactive, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2and a playground.
its got a goddamn playground. -
