- unit001, on 03/12/2009, -9/+25Better put a few nets around those to keep out the airplanes the Arabs will throw at you.
- Whorebane, on 03/13/2009, -4/+16They stole WTC from us! It hasn't even been 10 years.
- splinter09, on 03/12/2009, -1/+12Nice time for such an investment like, I wonder what bank will fund that project.
- Rogor, on 03/13/2009, -0/+10You might not have been to Paris lately, most of the building will be occupied by Arabs.
- ProfessorSYM, on 03/13/2009, -0/+8I know, they even stole the Statue of Liberty!
Wait... - LambdaFilms, on 03/12/2009, -0/+6Norman Foster designed a large part of my University, (University of East Anglia, UK) it's amazing what he's doing now and those towers look stunning.
- PhrosTT, on 03/13/2009, -0/+5reminds me a lot of what SHOULD be under construction at the WTC.
- Firefoot, on 03/12/2009, -4/+9Can you make them airplane proof?
- analogkid01, on 03/13/2009, -0/+4"Bon jour, Philip Petit? Oui..."
- Jaliyl, on 03/13/2009, -0/+4Sounds pretty cool, two unstable looking towers in a country with a high percentage of...BREEEEEEEEEEEEAM!!!
- mrjoanofarc, on 03/13/2009, -1/+5I am kind of sad Twin Towers won't be returning to the WTC site... and it makes me sadder one of the new WTC architect finalists is building a twin tower complex, instead, in a different world capital. But, the ultimate concept of twin towers will always be New York's former WTC complex.
- phylaxer, on 03/13/2009, -0/+4why minimalist glass and metal? looks so odd in beautiful old-world paris.
- supercandy, on 03/12/2009, -1/+4fascinating.
- kpasc, on 03/13/2009, -0/+3first of all it wouldn't be practical (or possible) in any other building material...
second of all, architecture is a reflection of the society in which it's built, it's a statement of our culture. Keep in mind that the Eiffel tower was meant to be temporary for one of the world expos, and was considered ugly at the time by citizens.
More recently the glass pyramid at the Louvre has caused some controversy.
Have you seen the Pompidou Centre, also in Paris? http://www.essential-architecture.com/PA/005B.jpg
/personally I prefer the aesthetic of these towers by Norman Foster - barcelona10, on 03/12/2009, -0/+3I think Norman Foster is also redesigning F.C Barcelona's stadium, the Camp Nou... compared to his past work it should be epic.
- rockstar1o9, on 03/13/2009, -0/+3Just out of curiosity, would 3, 4, or even 5 identical skyscrapers built in a circular formation provide any sort of structural stability benefits?? (ie. causing wind to blow around the other buildings in the group, in a similar fashion to birds in a flying-V)
- serif69, on 03/13/2009, -2/+5You think Parisians will let something like this be built? The Eiffel Tower is still the tallest structure in the city by over 100 meters, and they want to build two towers that are 1 meter short of it. Good luck with that.
- draftingtableX, on 03/13/2009, -0/+3This is in La Defense, outside of Paris.
- Chompy, on 03/13/2009, -1/+4They should build the WTC exactly as it was, only larger. But whatever they do, I wish they'd get the ***** on with it already.. symbolism has meaning, and as cliche as it is, every day that that site stands empty is a victory for the bad guys.
- ccb621, on 03/13/2009, -0/+3"Man on Wire" was amazing!
- inactive, on 03/12/2009, -0/+2Oh wow, awesome. Didn't know that. His firm seems to have their hands on all the cool projects around the world these days.
- jhails, on 03/13/2009, -0/+2How exciting. Paris gets a building just like all the other revolutionary 21st Century Norman Foster buildings being thrown up around the world. It looks like Foster is aiming to edge out Gehry as the go to guy for pre-packaged instant Architectural Authority.
- musicphreke, on 03/13/2009, -0/+2I actually don't really like the design of it too much. Personal taste I guess, but someone must agree.
- Jnewman83, on 03/13/2009, -0/+2Besides...this isn't the Old World section of Paris...its across the Seine in the business district where all the other buildings are. There is only one building in the Paris that most people know that is taller than 3 stories...and Parisians hhhaaaate it
- Skibadoweebop, on 03/24/2009, -0/+1I really like Norman Foster's approach to design but what is up with all these new buildings being bigger at the top than they are at the bottom?
It seems like every new building that goes up has to look like it is going to fall over. - kelmaster1, on 03/13/2009, -0/+1em, not really, because there is still the building that is taking the full wind load. If it's set up wrong it could create a channel with more intense winds.
- jc265, on 03/13/2009, -3/+3Might as well put a big target on the sides of the buildings..
- PhrosTT, on 03/13/2009, -1/+1wow..... from the source comments:
"It’ll look nice until someone flies some planes into them" - sreindl, on 03/13/2009, -0/+0The WTC were not the only "twin towers" in the world.

Despite this and the fact that a) Foster's towers look NOTHING like the NYC WTC and b) ALL new (ie post-1970) skyscrapers are built to be aircraft-proof, people still insist on making 9/11 related comments. Smart... - cowsgonemadd3, on 03/13/2009, -4/+3So old fashioned thinking....
Rocket launchers would work a lot better. - Barbarino, on 03/13/2009, -3/+1The reflection in the glass of burning cars will be stunning..
- tylerdurden09, on 03/13/2009, -3/+0Yeah...what's going on with that? There's still a huge freaking hole there. It's like....it's like we're still allowing ourselves to be torn up about it and we don't want to disturb the site...lame. Makes us look weak.
I guess this is the opportune time to build a twin-tower setup, since ours got wrecked. Thanks Paris for taking the new one. :*(
Also, better make sure they're ACTUALLY airplane-proof this time! Don't build them out of metal that melts from jet fuel fires!!
