- dhoneywell, on 06/09/2009, -0/+14Stupidly, all these years I thought I was a New Yorker because I live in New York. I really don't know who I am anymore.
- zagatbuzz, on 06/09/2009, -3/+17The pictures do indeed look fantastic. What a great, green initiative!
- bridgesteffen, on 06/09/2009, -3/+16Awesome pictures of the new park. Since I can't see it personally, this is the next best thing
- FakingFamous, on 06/09/2009, -3/+12if we can get some good weather in NYC i'll be there in a second. looks so cool

- MikeChino, on 06/09/2009, -3/+10Gorgeous park, and a great way to reuse existing infrastructure while adding green space!
- j0kr555, on 06/09/2009, -0/+7Our first step to becoming Corusant
- crossmr, on 06/09/2009, -1/+8"It may have sounded impossible only five years ago" Why? What great engineering accomplishments have we made in the last 5 years that made this possible?
- busterbros, on 06/09/2009, -0/+5You're going to get dugg down, but I'll be damned if it doesn't look like a bunch of weeds growing through the walkway.
- rdoger6424, on 06/09/2009, -0/+5You're confusing New York with New Jersey.
- b9gh47q, on 06/09/2009, -5/+10This looks great, I will definitely be checking it out on my upcoming trip to the Big Apple.
- CATSCEO2, on 06/09/2009, -0/+4It was already there. They re-used a old elevated rail-road to make a park. Read the ***** description next time.
- petewhite, on 06/09/2009, -2/+6mirror anyone?
- ethanator1088, on 06/09/2009, -3/+7I need to go to NYC for a vacation. Thanks for reminding me, and giving me a cool place to go.
- asdflawejilf, on 06/09/2009, -4/+8famous graffiti?? famous to who exactly
- TheSarf, on 06/09/2009, -1/+5http://www.thehighline.org/
- ejpusa, on 06/09/2009, -0/+4The edge left NYC many years ago.
We do what we can do now. It's just tourist's buying sneakers (47 million as of last count), but if you can get out into Brooklyn or Queens, into some of the more fringe neighborhoods, things are still rocking. But the 80's, OMG, will never be back that's for sure. Those times were AWESOME.
Brooklyn? It's pretty cool. Bushwick, Jamaica, some places in the Bronx, still setting the trends for the rest of the planet. :-)
You ABSOLUTELY have to have a local show you around, or you will miss it all.
WTF! - dhoneywell, on 06/09/2009, -1/+4Yea man, it's been really crappy out lately.
- Tmac90, on 06/09/2009, -2/+5There needs to me more of this everywhere.
- Travelsonic, on 06/09/2009, -0/+3"An elevated park in the sky built on top of the skeleton of an old rail system? It may have sounded impossible only five years ago..."
Politically speaking, maybe to absolutely...technologically / capability wise.... wha?? Really?
It would have been cool if they restored this area as an elevated rail line, but this is a really good use of the land as well. Maybe I'll head down there to see it some time.
Think about the railroad enthusiasts' chances to get great shots from the Penn Station LIRR yard, or (if the structure hasn't been completely turned into parkland yet and parts still remain as they originally were still) to explore and document this former rail line LEGALLY for once. - reckage, on 06/09/2009, -0/+2Was it very crowded? This definitely seems like something that I would have to check out when I go to NYC for a few days this fall.
Hopefully it isn't so crowded that you can barely move. - Shao00, on 06/09/2009, -0/+2It was nice this weekend for a little bit. But yeah, it seems like we have been living in Seattle, last nights thunderstorms were nuts...
- publiclurker, on 06/09/2009, -0/+2Reading is way too liberal for this guy.
- tech42er, on 06/10/2009, -0/+2Last night's? Try today's. I got soaked this morning!
- dpc47, on 06/10/2009, -0/+2Paris has had a park just like this since 1989: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Promenade_Plant%C3%A9 ...
It's a great idea. - albinotoucan, on 06/09/2009, -1/+3Stay in CA.
- brownsin07, on 06/10/2009, -0/+1Am I the only one that thinks the plant choices are disappointing? I really appreciate the idea but it looks like a bunch of fancy benches among weeds. I'm open to correction or explanation.
- tech42er, on 06/10/2009, -0/+1And then you found five dollars?
- sleepyguy22, on 06/09/2009, -0/+1Actually, it opened yesterday! I went there in the afternoon, it was a gorgeous evening. I was really impressed with it. Funniest part was the Pilates class happening in the building near 17th st, eye-level and mere feet away from the highline.
Edit: Found the pilates building: http://www.inhabitat.com/wp-content/uploads/img_46 ... - tech42er, on 06/10/2009, -0/+1Yeah, you know New York SO much better than us. I can tell because you ascribe ridiculous 1-dimensional stereotypes to us. Have fun at the Statue of Liberty and Times Square when you come to visit, you ignorant tourist!
- moo2u2, on 06/10/2009, -0/+1or New New York...
- DP84, on 06/09/2009, -0/+1The creators of inFAMOUS will not be pleased.
- removesstains, on 06/09/2009, -2/+3Sweet those cement block things will make it easier to build up my speed to hit the stunt jump at the end of that thing.
- JBizness, on 06/10/2009, -0/+1123bucklemyshoe is a modern day renaissance man. Not only was he one of the original programmers for Google, he envisioned high line parks long before they were built! AND got a good grade!
You're killin' me bro! - Encephalon, on 06/09/2009, -0/+1OK... THAT ***** is ***** amazing.
- brownsin07, on 06/10/2009, -1/+1Cool if its in your neighborhood and cool to read about but you are going out of your way on vacation to see this? Seems to me there are a lot more interesting things to go all the way to NYC to check out.
- avword, on 06/10/2009, -0/+0"The Giuliani administration favored and worked towards the demolition of the High Line"
http://www.thehighline.org/newsletters/061305_pr.h ... - feliks2, on 06/09/2009, -1/+1Me as well.
- govindprasad01, on 06/12/2009, -0/+0awesome pics.
its really great and quite necessary, but the plants really need some attention. i cant find any flowers in there.
a cool green getaway but my conception of a park was quite different. - solboldi, on 06/09/2009, -1/+1Very cool idea, but a lot of concrete.
- avword, on 06/10/2009, -0/+0http://www.thehighline.org/newsletters/061305_pr.h ...
- crossmr, on 06/10/2009, -1/+1What great political strides have we made that was really hampering this other than maybe some kind of safety checks? Was there some fat cat in charge who was making daily statements about how he'd never allow a park on some old railway lines as long as he was the boss?
- JanuaryCorporat, on 08/09/2009, -0/+0@avword I agree the planet choice is a bit strange but then again they left the old rails so that may possibly have been the look they wanted. Gonna have to put this one on my visit list for sure.
- CATSCEO2, on 06/09/2009, -1/+1Cool story bro?
- inactive, on 06/09/2009, -1/+0why did it seem impossible 5 years ago?
- DiggMikeS, on 06/09/2009, -2/+1Nice skate ramps.
600 pound rolling chairs to smash into each other and crush things with.
I do like the terrazzo-ish concrete pavers. - FritoPendejo, on 06/09/2009, -6/+5I can't wait to visit the big city to see some weeds.
- davidg11, on 06/09/2009, -4/+2MIRROR?!?!?!
- 123bucklemyshoe, on 06/09/2009, -2/+0This is a really great story. Especially because if you think about it this is kind of like a Subway but only in the air instead of underground. I'm extremely interested in science and programming and I actually wrote an essay once on these high line parks before and I got a good grade I don't mean to brag but it's kind of funny that it made it into the real world you know?
