- Hammertid, on 05/03/2009, -2/+28Did anyone else find that very difficult to read?
- widdershins, on 05/03/2009, -1/+14Yes, I thought it was really badly written. What exactly was the point of the article? If it's not obvious within the first paragraph what point is being made, it needs to be rewritten. Shame, because the Beeb's usually quite good at succinct writing.
- MikaStar, on 05/03/2009, -1/+14I couldn't read that. It was just a mass of words and long paragraphs and it was very difficult to bring myself to pay attention or give a damn. The pictures were also uncaptivating and stupid. So I'm going to guess what the article is about: A dude complaining about how things are in the world's economies right now and rich people who are "ultra creative" and decided to dig down into the ground instead of going up. Thank goodness there are still stories about what rich people are doing in today's world. How could we ever live without knowing what rich people are doing.
- geneikillua, on 05/03/2009, -1/+10I would have preferred some pictures of some sweet ass underground excavation and the completed lofts/dens/diving pools/evil lairs. Instead I got a stupid article that bitched about nothing.
- itslifeasusual, on 05/03/2009, -1/+10This article is just one guy rambling about a ***** economy, and one guy that might be building an underground garage, LAME
- Nidy1, on 05/03/2009, -0/+8"But just how big a disaster has it been, when so many of the wealthy still have enough cash to improve their houses?"
Yea, why isn't everyone poor!? Rabble rabble rabble. - CivicTV, on 08/14/2009, -0/+6Yeah we are.
- superfusion, on 05/03/2009, -2/+7neat story but ***** writer. had to re-read the first four paragraphs.
- techdever, on 05/03/2009, -0/+4ethanlong, what part of digg grammar nazi don't you understand?
- Perk, on 05/03/2009, -1/+4Dugg for the gratuitous Padma Lakshmi picture.
I wonder if I'd have a shot with her if I wrote a book ireverently portraying Jesus... - vagarach, on 05/03/2009, -0/+3Yeah it was badly written, and being from the BBC it confused me even more!
- EmperorAwesome, on 05/03/2009, -0/+2I'm surprised there's not a lot more of this. An underground lair, and perhaps a personal subway, are the FIRST things to do when you get super crazyking rich. Wealth is wasted on the non-lair-wanting. Example: how did no one want hussein's spy villian yacht when it went for sale? An escape tube leading to a minisub, which is accessed through a moving bookshelf? What better use of money is there?
- KyotoWolf, on 05/03/2009, -2/+4Where was the funny bit?
- kingofinternet, on 05/03/2009, -1/+3what's with the weird homunculus picture?
- borez, on 05/03/2009, -0/+2It's written by Clive James, an Australian writer, TV presenter, Radio host and sometime ( extremely dry ) comedian.
I completely agree with what you're saying, but If you know the voice of Clive James and his witticisms and therefore read it as if it's been read by the man himself, then this actually makes perfect sense and is pretty damn funny. But if you have no idea who the guy is, you'll probably find that it's all over the chip shop and difficult to read, as did I till I looked at who the writer was.
Here's a interview with the guy ( not that it'll help much ) :

- sfharper, on 05/08/2009, -0/+1Terrific pics and wouldn't it be so nice :) Sheri
- qetuo, on 05/04/2009, -0/+1This article was so poorly written i can't understand why it is being dugg.
- lepetitmousse, on 05/03/2009, -2/+3that was a dinosaur of an article.
- sndream, on 05/04/2009, -0/+1So basically the whole article is about complaining(or ranting) how the rich is able to afford to expand their house by digging downwards while the economy is collapsing?
Well, London have a strict zoning law that prevent ppl adding floors so ppl expand their basement, what's the big deal. Giving that we are in a worldwide recession, shouldn't it be a good thing if the rich spend more money which provide more employment? - hakluytbean, on 05/04/2009, -0/+1I liked it, it's just not a pop culture kind of article and I'm surprised to see it here. More of an essay, the digging under London can mean a variety of things. I must admit though I was basically expecting cool pictures of architecture :)
- RaulMuadDib, on 05/04/2009, -0/+1I only looked at the pictures
- dorigillman, on 05/04/2009, -0/+0it was funny but way too long and badly written./
- govindprasad01, on 05/04/2009, -0/+0ya the writer was certainly the funny part,
- glaz, on 05/04/2009, -2/+2You people are so accustomed to passively reading top 10 lists neatly organised in big letters on digg that you have completely lost the ability to sit down and read something attentively. The article was great in highlighting the bizare antics of the super-rich and how they continue to live frivolously in a complete bubble (now a bunker!) outside of the reality shared by the rest of us. The imagery of the rich digging themselves into the streets of London as if ready for war is both culturally relevant, hillariously true and patently disturbing. These guys are so concerned about losing their status that they have completely lost their minds. Just...read it and appreciate something different.
- lepetitmousse, on 05/04/2009, -1/+1it was a terrible article with little organization, unclear writing, a lack of focus, and no clear purpose.
- techdever, on 05/03/2009, -3/+2learn some grammar, kid.
- LonelyTylenoL, on 05/03/2009, -8/+4This proves that a capitalistic world is definitely what we need!
/s - ethanlong, on 05/03/2009, -6/+1Sorry, I don't have my AP Stylebook next to me. Actually, I really don't think it matters...since I got the message across, and it's not like Digg readers are necessarily checking for grammar all the time.
- ethanlong, on 05/03/2009, -9/+1They always complainin' always complaininnnn'!!!!!!!
(I was seriously...listening to this last night with my friends...reliving the old days.....)
(***** now i sound like some scene kid)
