- ScottMcIntyre, on 10/02/2008, -0/+52Brilliant photos. One image shows a tree amid a snow scene- I had no idea it snowed in the Lebanon, but that's how it probably got its name. It's a fascinating article, with many facts.
QFA:"The name "Lebanon" is a very ancient name, which comes from an Aramaic root which means "white", probably referring to the snow-capped peaks of Mount Lebanon. The mountains of Lebanon have been split into two ranges, separated by the Great Rift Valley (which stretches into Africa) with the valley of Beqaa in between." - prunch, on 10/02/2008, -1/+40Top notch ....
only idea i had of lebanon was a war torn land - openthink, on 10/02/2008, -1/+27Beauty probably isn't the 1st thing that comes to mind when you think of Lebanon...or the 10th or 100th. But these pics show a different, remarkable world. Great images.
- BeShirtHappy, on 10/03/2008, -1/+25It's funny how you get an image in your head and discover it's nothing like you thought. My image of Lebanon was not as beautiful as this.
- inactive, on 10/03/2008, -1/+22Lebanon is perfect country for living in many aspects. Too bad humans invented wars.
- rolandolb, on 10/03/2008, -0/+20I'm Lebanese living in Lebanon. It's a lovely place if you can survive wars, ignore religious mentality, and bear with the incredible traffic. Very few are those who appreciate the natural and cultural beauty of this country... Tourists are always lecturing us: shame on you, you have a beautiful country, stop fighting over it!!!
- lucy22, on 10/03/2008, -1/+20I have heard that Lebanon is considerd quite modern and not afflicted with as much of the religious fighting of the other middle eastern countries. It looks quite beautiful.
- granolajoe, on 10/02/2008, -0/+18Simply stunning. I wish I could go there someday.
- apathetique, on 10/03/2008, -1/+15Beautiful. Lebanon's women are just as gorgeous.
- sharkd, on 10/03/2008, -6/+20Lebanon is physically beautiful, and was culturally, artistically and architecturally significant for a long while -- there's a reason Beirut was once termed the Paris of the Middle East.
Unfortunately, though, Lebanon is now largely ruled by a fanatically bloodthirsty terrorist group funded by the Islamic Republic of Iran and locally directed by the Syrians. It's gut-wrenching to see a land with such cultural wealth and beautiful geography economically and physically destroyed, and then picked-clean like a carcass by violent extremists and egomaniacal leaders for more than three decades. - Phant0mMaster, on 10/03/2008, -1/+13I normally don't bother logging in to digg stuff. But even though I'm only one quarter Lebanese, I take great pride in not only the country but also its people. Lebanon is known around the world as "that country that went to war with Israel" which isn't even technically true. Lebanon is westernized and very friendly, so I've never understood why the U.S. or United Nations has never done more to stand by them. Lebanon could be a shining example of tolerance and prosperity in the Middle East, but unfortunate events instigated by neighboring countries have tragically prevent such.
- Phipman, on 10/03/2008, -1/+12Mainstream Lebanon loves Americans. In fact, Lebanese people hate the people who don't like America. They like Bush (I don't, but that's because I'm an American) because he passed a series of great treaties for them, gave them a bunch of new Dodge Chargers for the police country-wide (which they flaunt daily), and decided to train the Lebanese soldiers in America. I could say "America is great except for the vast stereotyping of middle eastern countries by people who don't know what the ***** they're talking about."
- MacBookForMe, on 10/02/2008, -0/+10Oh, yeah...those were still good old times...of love and trade and palm trees:)
- FlyingPhotog, on 10/03/2008, -0/+10"You are a garden spring, a well of fresh water flowing down from Lebanon." Song of Songs 4:15
"The splendor of Lebanon will come to you, its evergreens, firs, and cypresses together, to beautify my palace." Isaiah 60:13
"Does the snow ever completely vanish from the rocky slopes of Lebanon? Do the cool waters from those distant mountains ever cease to flow?" Jeremiah 18:14
"May there be an abundance of grain in the earth; on the tops of the mountains may it sway! May its fruit trees flourish like the forests of Lebanon!" Psalms 72:16 - Rustiga, on 10/03/2008, -0/+10I used to live in Lebanon for 3 years, traveled there every summer from age 2 before that till I was 10. Lebanon is always in strife, the day I was born my mother (who lived in the states at the time) called my grandmother and told her the good news, 2 stories below her apartment there was a civil war going on, but my grandma went out to the balcony and started shouting out the news.
Lebanon always rebuilds better and more beautiful then ever, if you think it's a war torn country with strife and terrible people, please don't visit. - TheFounder, on 10/03/2008, -0/+9My whole family is from Lebanon.. the country is amazing... my parents came here during the civil war there.. and started over in the US.. but from time to time we travel there to see my grandparents and stuff....
- djAnakin, on 10/03/2008, -0/+9I have some good friends who hail from Lebanon and they always say how beautiful it is there. I've never taken the time to look it up. These pictures are amazing. Forwarding to them.
- zooxbeirut, on 10/03/2008, -0/+8As a Lebanese, living in Beirut, I think everyone should visit this country at least once.
- zooxbeirut, on 10/03/2008, -0/+7The vast majority of people in Lebanon have absolutely nothing against Americans.
- medfreak, on 10/03/2008, -1/+8You are so dead wrong. Lebanese babes are some of the hottest babes on planet earth.

- jmask5, on 10/03/2008, -2/+8Lebanon is the Only country in the middle east where you can say whatever the hell you want. It's not ruled by terrorist. Hezbollah doesn't really do any "ruling". You see them around but you wouldn't know they were Hezbollah unless you asked them. It's not like they walk around with Ak47s. If it weren't for isreal I would feel much safer there then I do here in Toronto. The liklihood of getting shot, mugged, raped etc is very very low in Beirut.
- retrospects, on 10/03/2008, -0/+6this makes me want to go to my grandparents and get some hummus....
- SverigesKung, on 10/03/2008, -1/+7Yeah, they need American help! Send in the Marines and some Chicago School economists! We will fix what is "broken"!
Note to self: Do not put Americans in charge of:
1.) Elections
2.) Free Markets
3.) Oil rich countries.
4.) Small Alaskan towns - reckage, on 10/03/2008, -0/+5I had no idea the countryside was so gorgeous. Great pictures.

just a few famous lebanese women, - bucketbeats, on 10/03/2008, -0/+5Driving up to the cedars on the mountain with no barrier is the scary part. But 80 degree weather with snow on the mountains with views to the beach .... priceless
- jjmac, on 10/03/2008, -0/+5I came in here ready to make jokes about cheese and blonds, but those pics are beautiful. I had no idea.
- Rayd89, on 10/03/2008, -0/+5im lebanese but live in australia, i visited about 3 years ago for the first time expecting (like what some people have already mentioned) something out of COD4, i was simply amazed at how amazing the country was... needless to say ill be back very soon.
dissapointed tho that they didnt include the Jeita Grotto... heres a link if anyones interested:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeita_Grotto - CCunitz, on 10/03/2008, -3/+8Now if only there weren't so many bloody wars and terrorist threats.
Damn religious fanaticism. - usedman, on 10/03/2008, -0/+5There is the historical background of Lebanon that was not covered. In Baalbeck exist the largest Roman corpse in the world ! The temple of Bacchus , temple of Venus , and temple of Jupiter. Also, on the outskirts of the city lies many findings to other temples/roman castles. How do I know this? I am from Baalbeck :)
- Phipman, on 10/03/2008, -1/+6So those three old ladies define Lebanese women? I go there every summer, and can testify to how incredibly attractive they are. That's like me defining America with just this one picture:
http://www.grumpygourmetusa.com/fat_lady.jpg - jmask5, on 10/03/2008, -0/+5What the hell does religion have to do with it? If they are happy then they are happy.
- zooxbeirut, on 10/03/2008, -2/+6Christians in Lebanon are not being targetted and hezbollah hasn't "taken over" the country ,where did you get this ***** from? fox news?
- medfreak, on 10/03/2008, -4/+8Lebanon is one of the most free countries in the region. The contrast amongst the various people is amazing. It has almost 40% Christians, 35% Shiaa and 20% Sunni. Its leaders are democratically elected.
Turn off Fox news. - medfreak, on 10/03/2008, -1/+5You just don't get it. Michel Aoun is a staunch ALLY of Hezbollah. The Christians are ALLIED with Hezbullah. It is the some of the Druz and Sunni that are going against the coalition of Christians and Shi'a Hezbollah.
- MadMonk67, on 10/03/2008, -0/+4Your ignorance is astounding, but not entirely unexpected.
- inactive, on 10/03/2008, -3/+7SHHHHHHHHHHT!!!
It's a great spot and everybody thinks it isn't, keep it that way. - wisam, on 10/03/2008, -0/+4Lebanon is more like Las Vegas, Hollywood and Switzerland of the Middle East.
- Chebsi, on 10/03/2008, -0/+4However getting hit by a car in Beirut is another story. ;o
- jmask5, on 10/03/2008, -0/+4That's not true. People can do whatever they want. There are no religious police or anything like that. TVs are not monitered so they can say anything they want on there. It's not like Syria where if you don't kiss ass you will get a beat down.
- SierraEcho, on 10/03/2008, -0/+4Some of the landscape looks like something out of the lord of the rings...beautiful!
- dhughes, on 10/03/2008, -0/+3 It's a beautiful place, there are quite a few Lebanese where I live most came early in the last century as peddlers they had horse drawn carts and sold various items. The second wave came in the early 1970's (1973?) as the civil war was beginning, lots of Haddads and Tweels/Taweels if anyone out there reading this is looking into their family tree for lost relatives. All the Lebanese friends or any Lebanese people I know are all Christian, but for some reason the country is seen as only Muslim.
- pigfarts, on 10/03/2008, -1/+4"jeez how stupid do you think we are"
I for one think you're pretty stupid. - Infidelcastr0, on 10/03/2008, -0/+3Stunning.
- petard, on 10/03/2008, -0/+3No, it's not. I was just there this summer with my American passport, and I am fine.
- adnams, on 10/03/2008, -0/+3i think they probably already know what it looks like ;)
- GoingPostal, on 10/03/2008, -3/+6My favorite export from Lebanon was Lebanese Blond Hashish.
- mike42979, on 10/03/2008, -0/+3With all this beauty in the world why do celebrities waist time vacationing in Mexico tourist spots when there is so much to be seen in this world.
- medfreak, on 10/03/2008, -2/+5You are the ***** stupid ***** of a liar. Just show ONE source to your *****. The diversity and democracy in Lebanon is second to none in the middle east, including Israel.
