- surfbass, on 01/17/2008, -0/+29Funny, they didn't seem to care much when baggage handlers stole stuff from my bag.
- AndrewDB, on 01/17/2008, -1/+24I can't wait to see how the 51-year-old worker and his 39-year-old supervisor like it when the jail inmates try to heist their family jewels.
- Ajajadude, on 01/17/2008, -1/+23If they're willing to make money by stealing, what else would they be willing to do to make money that's illegal? That's what has had me worried for some time.
- Claverhouse, on 01/17/2008, -0/+19'They say the jewelry was stolen last week from a container marked "high value..."'
What could have alerted these fiends ? What tiny detail, no matter how insignificant ? - Konrad9, on 01/17/2008, -0/+18Is that why it takes an hour for my luggage to get from the plane onto the conveyor belt thing?
- floridiot2, on 01/17/2008, -0/+12Your ***** was zirconium.
- PeppermintPig, on 01/17/2008, -0/+12Oh, I see, they only get in trouble when they steal expensive items and the rest of us are ***** out of luck?
- rgaino, on 01/17/2008, -0/+12The very first time I travelled to the US, someone opened my luggage (which you can't lock) and stole some cables and my webcam. They do that all the time, it happened with co-workers of mine also.
- nekt, on 01/17/2008, -0/+10I had some 130 euro nikes snagged from a bag after rechecking it at Newerk. Never got a resolution.
- supermutt, on 01/17/2008, -1/+10Of course it's company policy never to, imply ownership in the event of a dildo... always use the indefinite article a dildo, never your dildo.
- Mark2600, on 01/17/2008, -2/+9Guess what I'm not carrying on anymore planes. Yeah, $250k in diamonds. Seriously, I know you should be able to trust security, but why would you bring that with you somewhere, and not ship it seperately? That's what insurance is for.
- and303, on 01/17/2008, -0/+6Something more needs to be done to supervise these people. I have to take my shoes off and be thoroughly searched to walk onto an airplane, only to find my iPod "lost" when retrieving my bags on arrival.
- blup3ace, on 01/17/2008, -1/+7if the airlines and TSA are paying these handlers and inspectors the minimum wage, how can we trust them to handle the things our not-so-minimum wage can get us?
- Celeron, on 01/17/2008, -0/+6Two American Airlines cargo/luggage carriers got caught transporting drugs between America and some South American country. They made $10k for each drug transport.
- cathpah, on 01/17/2008, -2/+7While these guys are certainly no good...I gotta say that whoever is sending diamonds through CHECKED baggage are absolute idiots. I'm a professional travel photographer and I would never ever put any of my lenses, cameras, or computer equipment in checked baggage....that'd just be foolish. The airlines won't reimburse you if anything is stolen and it's just a stupid risk to take.
I understand this was put in a container and all that....but i would bet $250,000 worth of diamonds wouldn't take up that much space....in a briefcase, purse, or even your damn underwear.
Carry. them. on. - Skyfire, on 01/17/2008, -0/+5They must be pros.
- id10tjoeuser, on 01/17/2008, -0/+4Let me think, I have 15 years Fedpen in one hand, or 5k bail and pair of skates that will take me all the way to Mexico. What to do...what to do...
- Skyfire, on 01/17/2008, -2/+6When I flew for the first time I was shocked to find that they went through my luggage at Dulles. Maybe it seems commonplace for some, but for me it just seems awkward.
- a10webb, on 01/17/2008, -0/+3My roommate had her digital camera stolen out of her bag by those scumbags.
- SLockhart, on 01/17/2008, -1/+4Any moron can recite movie quotes. The trick is to do it in context. Buried.
- cathpah, on 01/17/2008, -0/+2well i wouldn't wear an "I'm carrying a *****-ton of diamonds!" t-shirt
- shootsfired, on 01/17/2008, -0/+2My friend said don't ever fall alseep at the Newark airport. He said gangs of thugs were trying to rob him when he almost fell alseep there.
- brettmjohnson, on 01/17/2008, -0/+2When I check latinum bars at the airport, I put them in a container marked "Dog Poop".
- rockefeller2, on 01/17/2008, -0/+2I would seriously stuff something like that up my ass if I was transporting something of high value like that. I'm not joking.
- CoolWind, on 01/17/2008, -0/+2If it's that easy to get away, why do so many people end up in jail?
- brianary, on 01/17/2008, -0/+2Great idea, until someone starts "diamond bomb" hysteria.
Stop. Flying. - UncleCrapper, on 01/17/2008, -2/+4Theft from luggage is obviously a serious concern, but consider for a moment that if the baggage handlers can steal valuables OUT of your baggage and sneak it out of a secure area, they can just as easily sneak something IN to your luggage, such as an explosive or other weapon.
Theft from luggage is an abomination considering the level of security when expect these days. - TaintDeli, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1"...the jewelry was stolen last week from a container marked "high value"
Well 'spluh! - Aflyctus, on 01/17/2008, -1/+2Nice, always a place for a Fight Club quote.
- allengeer, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1at what value of stuff do you not carry it on you because to many people that much is worth killing you for?
- JonStark, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1I hate the JFK and LGA airports in New York because of luggage handlers. How hard is it to ***** put a bag on a conveyor belt? The issue that gets me mad of luggage handlers in New York specifically is that they always manage to break my luggage. My bag doesn't even weigh 25 pounds, and it comes back to me with the handle broken or if it is a roller baggage broken handle/wheels.
MCO of Orlando, Florida, in my opinion, does the best job in handling my luggage every time I travel. - TylerFu, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1I've had a purse stolen from my bag that i got in china town for my girlfriend... sure the purse was illegal but the guys at JFK airport didn't know that!
- Samiyam, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1Expect that your luggage will be searched for anything of value when you check it in, and keep anything you don't want stolen with you on the plane.
- Ascus, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1Stuff being stollen from baggage in NY airports. This is news? I have them steal my damn electric toothbrush. I check nothing in bag going through NYC that has ANY value.
- Escamotage, on 01/17/2008, -0/+1I've had my SNES stolen by these guys when I was kid. Although, they didn't bother to take the wires with them, I guess they could've make a decent amount with just the console itself. I was obviously pissed.
Good riddance to them. Airports never do anything about these incidents. Since then, I've always had the opportunity to travel light and never check in luggage. It's sad that checking in luggage is a risk and not an accommodation, especially for the prices we have to pay for certain air travel.
Although personally, I would never be stupid enough to check-in a quarter of a million dollars in jewelry. - Forbes245, on 01/17/2008, -1/+1What kind of numbskull would check $250,000 in jewels? There's more to this story, methinks.
- zonk3r, on 01/17/2008, -1/+1Amusing how criminals always seem to think they'll get away with it. They always get too bold and then get lazy. And get caught.
- masskurec, on 03/04/2009, -0/+0just a quarter million?
http://xptweak.net - nutmac, on 01/17/2008, -2/+2What kind of person would check-in expensive jewelry? Morons!
- strum40, on 01/17/2008, -1/+1I hope they catch the ringleader behind this.
- BatmanStan, on 12/09/2008, -0/+0I knew those baggage handlers were scumbags
http://godzillafiguresblog.com - VTL1180b, on 01/24/2008, -0/+0 This was a cargo shipment in a cargo container so nobody was shipping jewels in their checked luggage. Your bags get wrecked because management is too cheap to fix the equipment that handles the baggage. American Airlines just built a Billion dollar terminal at JFK. They built it with the 28% paycut that they took from their employees while they give their senior management around the US bonus checks in the $80000 range.A guy sitting in a warm office cutting staff and screwing the passengers gets an $80000 bonus while a guy breaking his back standing in the cold rain and snow has lost 1/3 of his paycheck. How's that for corporate responsibility? AA's new terminal has 14 baggage belts at JFK. Six months after opening the terminal only 2 of the 14 are still working because they bought the cheapest ones money could buy. What do you think happens to 100000 pds of luggage that need 14 belts to hold it when you shove in on to 2 baggage belts? I'll give you a hint. IT DOES NOT FIT AND GETS #@%$ed up ! Managers at AA get a bonus based on not holding OT. You wait an hour for your bags because the Crew Chief tells the manager he needs 10 people to unload the 60000 pds of passengers bags(Which is done by hand) and the manager says " Use the 2 that are on the clock and do the planes one at a time. THE PASSENGERS CAN WAIT! " I know both these people personally and what they did was unexcusable and I am in no way defending it. Now think of yourself working at a job for 19 years and you suddenly lose 1 third of your salary while your workload doubles. Suddenly you can't pay you mortgage or pay your bills but your bosses are all driving new cars. You see a little box in a cargo container that is insured for lots of money and your desperation and stupidity gets the best of you. This shipment was required to have an escort to prevent these sort of things from happening. You know why it didn't? Because the cargo manager who was trying not to hold OT and had no one on shift to escort it. He figured he would hold no OT and leave it unguarded till some else came on duty because they do it all the time and 99% of the time everything is ok. Well not this time. These were 2 good guys with unblemished records who made a really bad choice and will now pay for it with their careers and possibly their freedom. Most of the other airlines at JFK use Swissport which is a handling company to load and unload the baggage on the planes. They hire degenerates and pay them minimum wage to handle the bags while charging the airlines top dollar. I once asked a Swissport manager about all the theft their workers commit and was told straight out that they make so much money by paying their people peanuts and giving them lousy benefits that the workers could not steal enough to even put a scrape into the profits they are making. They would rather pay the 100000 dollars in theft claims a year then pay the workers a living wage with benefits. It's all about the bottom line. Do not put your valubles in your checked luggage and fly with carry-ons instead when possible. If your planing on flying this Spring I suggest you don't book on American if possible because the pilots are going on strike come March. They are sick of the greedy management and want their pay restored to where it was before they took their paycut. Management has already refused to go to arbitration on this issue so the battle lines have been drawn and a strike is now looking to be unavoidable.
- crossers, on 07/18/2008, -0/+0don' t worry! I don't think that here you can find person who have $250.000 brilliants! so just look in this article as funny history!

can buy. Most probably do care and are honest but there are a few that make the headlines. numbskull I like that word its soooo
Fitting - ampersand2001, on 01/17/2008, -4/+3they can be cleared if they can prove that the jewels belong to terrorists. then they'll be appointed to positions in the bush white house.
