- nmffffd9, on 10/31/2009, -7/+98wow the inside looks much nicer than expected
- TheDiggAbides, on 10/31/2009, -1/+76Is it so wrong that when I come across houses and other locations like this I mark them on my list of possible hideouts for when the zombie hordes break out?
- greggerm, on 10/31/2009, -3/+64The article that the linked website stole the pictures from...
http://www.boston.com/lifestyle/articles/2009/07/2 ... - alanocu, on 10/31/2009, -4/+64I have seen this place from the bridge in the background of the first photo. That's the Newport Bridge. I used to live in Newport, RI. I have always wondered what the inside of that place looked like. This is fantastic. I'm sending this to my friends out in Newport. I have driven over that bridge so many times. Narragansett Bay is spectacular. This really makes me miss Newport. I guess it's time to take a drive. The bridge is about two miles long. It connects Aquidneck Island (Newport) with the mainland (Jamestown). When the wind picks up, the drive over the bridge can be a little bit scary though.
- Shar3Mor3, on 10/31/2009, -3/+47Now I have something to daydream about, such a pretty place
- clickfire, on 10/31/2009, -4/+46Nice isolated place to escape the crowds.
- bettverboten, on 10/31/2009, -7/+47Very cool post!
- thegrantman, on 11/01/2009, -0/+37The storm blew his comment down.
- Haz3rd, on 11/01/2009, -0/+35Not at all. You are thinking ahead.
- carbonfilament, on 10/31/2009, -4/+39the reply button is over there>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>v
- tasine, on 10/31/2009, -4/+36Looks like such a roomy and comfortable place, but glad I don't have the housekeeping chores that accompany it! ;)
- greggerm, on 10/31/2009, -0/+32It's outlived the hurricanes of '38 and '54, so she's been tested by the worst that Narragansett Bay is likely to ever see.
- ChaosProfessor, on 10/31/2009, -7/+36Cool story bro
- gorgeoussand, on 10/31/2009, -5/+33Hotdamn !!!! This is just awesome. So nice to have our honeymoon here.
- tnoy, on 10/31/2009, -0/+26Good thing there hasn't been a brutal storm since 1905, then.
- slipster216, on 11/01/2009, -0/+23My friends and I have stayed at Clingstone a few times over the last couple of years and it's a really amazing place to spend a few days. We'll be going again next year, most likely. They will actually rent it out, but it's very expensive and there's usually not many dates available. Friends of ours were the caretakers for the house for quite a few years, so we have an in and amortize the remaining costs over all of us for the week. It ends up cheaper than the local hotel. The place can sleep around 30 people without much issue, and there's tons of space and it makes for a great party or concert.
The house itself requires a lot of upkeep; you have to bring your own water for everything as well. There's solar power and a self-composting toilets, so you're not roughing it while your there. There actually used to be another building which had a fitness area, but that was destroyed a long time ago. The house sat in ruin for a long time before it's current owners bought it and spent many summers fixing it up, cleaning out seagull *****, etc. Seems like it was a ton of work, but what a place! - CoventryMisfit, on 10/31/2009, -5/+27"Cool but one brutal storm = bye"
It survived the Hurricane of 1938...I think it'll be ok. - cyrix, on 11/01/2009, -0/+21But you did reply......
- thegrantman, on 11/01/2009, -0/+19The house is surrounded by water and has roof access for mounting a 50 cal.
I'd say it's a win. - carbonfilament, on 10/31/2009, -0/+17I'd pay 25k for that.
- Ubertastic, on 11/01/2009, -0/+14Until your ammo and other supplies run dry and your only viable escape is by air. Let's not forget, in situations such as World War Z, zombies can survive and maneuver underwater. In the book, even years after the outbreak, zombies were still in the ocean (grant it their heads could be easily squished into particles of dead matter due to decomposition).
- JDLamb88, on 11/01/2009, -0/+13Yeah he said that but do you honestly think there would be millions/billions of zombies just walking the ocean floor for years. They can't climb up a hill, let alone trenches and sand while being crushed by water pressure and nibbled by fish.
- carbonfilament, on 10/31/2009, -1/+14I grew up in Middletown, on the Newport town line. I now live in NYC, but travel back to Newport from time to time to race sailboats and visit family. This house is a landmark in the harbor and is often close to markers in Newport Yacht Club races. Very cool to see the interior - with most people in Newport and Jamestown, I've always wondered who owned this place and what it looked like inside. Truly one of a kind, and great pics - thanks to Boston.com who the writer of this post didn't seem to reference...after stealing this great work.
http://www.boston.com/lifestyle/house/gallery/clin ... - awhiteflame, on 10/31/2009, -0/+12Does he get his own zipcode?
- trestevenson, on 11/01/2009, -0/+12The pictures of this place are great, but the article seems to have been written by a middle-schooler.
- scuba7183, on 10/31/2009, -1/+12Jesus Christ $3600!!?!?
- thomas, on 10/31/2009, -0/+9If you compare the value of the money it would be around $25k today.
- steakum, on 11/01/2009, -0/+9Anyone else think the interior looks like a set from Lemony Snicket?
- Atario, on 11/01/2009, -1/+10If it were mine, I could not resist calling it "my Myst house".
- breadfred, on 10/31/2009, -0/+9You ***** out of your ass.
- carbonfilament, on 10/31/2009, -0/+9yeah anyone from RI knows that the worst storms were in 38 and 54... No one calls out the 05 storm for blowing the ferris wheel into the resevoir...
- carbonfilament, on 10/31/2009, -0/+9btw, for some perspective:

Zoom in on the small group of rocks to the NE of the marker. - Mav88, on 11/01/2009, -0/+8it must be a bitch to take out the trash....
- asgardshill, on 10/31/2009, -1/+9Nice place. Pity about the basement though.
- SasquatchBill, on 11/01/2009, -0/+8Nice comeba.. oh wait. Nevermind.
- CrispixKingdom, on 10/31/2009, -2/+10This is one of those awesomely informative and just plain cool digg submissions, thanks to angel for posting it.
I wouldn't worry about storms, it's obviously very well-built and maintained. The real danger is rising sea levels due to melting polar ice caps. I will be really interested to see where this thing stands in about 20 years or so, I really hope they manage to save it if the worst happens. - JoeHague, on 10/31/2009, -3/+10Now I know where to go when the Zombie Apocalypse starts/

http://www.boston.com/lifestyle/articles/2009/07/2 ... - carbonfilament, on 10/31/2009, -2/+8Uhhh....Jamestown is NOT the mainland.
You might notice this by the fact that you have to take a bridge to get to Jamestown from any direction.
Oh and you know - Maps. and Geography.

- vatd112, on 11/01/2009, -0/+5That house is probably worth well over $1 milliion, even in this economy
- guyincognitoo, on 11/01/2009, -0/+4They just upped the toll on that bridge from $1 to $4. Bastards.
- carbonfilament, on 10/31/2009, -0/+4where would the PO be? in his basement? with the fish?
btw it wasn't that long ago that Middletown got its own zip code - it used to be the same zip as newport. RI is not that big - by population or area. - Spartan4790, on 10/31/2009, -0/+4Very interesting, i would love to see it in real life
- zephc, on 10/31/2009, -1/+5Title reminds me of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGWbt3DSje0
