- cshields, on 05/22/2009, -0/+5I just checked out of an apartment in Barcelona today.. 2 bedroom, 2 bath, fully furnished with living room, kitchen, washing machine, etc.. shared it with a coworker for the same price as just one of the rooms we had originally grabbed at the conference hotel, so we saved a lot of money for a LOT more space. The person who met us with the keys also spent a good half hour introducing us to the city, where to eat (local favorites vs touristy places), etc..
I was hesitant at first, but now I wouldn't have it any other way! - steesje, on 05/22/2009, -0/+4Pretty much everyone in Europe I know does this already...
- RyeBrye, on 05/22/2009, -0/+4Depends on the area of the country. In the Florida area near Disney? Rental gold. You can rent a really nice house for way less than you can get a crappy set of hotel rooms. Near San Francisco where my brother-in-law is getting married this summer? Slim pickings.
- jeffmon, on 05/22/2009, -0/+4I live in Hawaii, getting married next month, and my in-laws/wife's friends from Texas are coming down to visit with no place to stay. What do I do? I call up my friend who owns a bunch of condos and he hooked us up with two of em (2br, 1 1/2 ba), 400 each for a week. Compared to 200-300 dollars per NIGHT for a small hotel, it's a pretty big savings.
- yehaww, on 05/22/2009, -0/+4This is the best way to do Europe. My last 3 trips there I've rented apartments. They pretty much just meet you, take a deposit and give you the keys and you never see them again. Perfect and pretty damned cheap.
- markf3388, on 05/22/2009, -0/+3Yea, it is way cheaper and not to mention way better. You dont have to eat out 3 times a day, which i get really sick of after a few days. If you rent a condo for a week, you get to make your favorites foods, just as you like em while on vacation, it kicks ass.
- sodade, on 05/22/2009, -0/+2The wife and I always opt for a rental over hotels. Last month, we spent two weeks in a place on the beach in the Netherlands. The sites listed in the article are not as good as the following (so says my master vacation planner wife)
www.vbro.com
www.vacationrentals.com
www.vacationrentals411.com - onederwall, on 05/22/2009, -0/+2I done this last summer. Best.Summer.Ever. This is a serious alternative to getting a hotel room.
- OasisR123, on 05/22/2009, -0/+2to whoever buried him, why was that? I don't see anything wrong with his statement, explanation please because this seems very interesting
- Hosalabad, on 05/22/2009, -0/+2We just booked a place at the beach for $300 a night. It sleeps 8, and has a nice den and a full kitchen. Try getting a hotel for that.
- buckrogers1965, on 05/22/2009, -0/+1I rented an apartment in Hawaii for a month, was $2100 and got a kitchen and full sized fridge. I bought a bike from goodwill for $50 and donated it back at the end of the month. I ate healthy and rode my bike to the store and beach. Was a great time.
- giveaphuk, on 05/23/2009, -0/+1um, it's not always that way.. most of the time the hosts usually give me a free room to stay in.. I spent 6 months travelling europe, with a total of 3 nights staying in paid accomodation..
but, hey, it's your loss, my gain.. shame but, as i think the world does need to readopt concepts of 'sharing'! - rsmith32, on 05/22/2009, -0/+1Wouldn't you see them again when you pay them and move out?
- thief77, on 09/29/2009, -0/+0Definitely this happens also in my Country Cyprus. Here is much cheaper to rent or let a Luxury villa 4 bedrooms with swimming pool for only 500-800 Euro per week (total of 8 people can sleep!). To check prices please see this site: http://www.amadora.com.cy By contrast Hilton Hotel charges 150 EURO for a small room per day!!!
- singaporesale, on 05/23/2009, -0/+0this American uber trend has spread it's wings to Singapore! Check out The Hotel Alternatives at http://www.thehotelalternatives.com I think the name is kinda cool too.
- samararentals, on 05/26/2009, -0/+0Renting in Costa Rica, see http://www.samararentals.com Samara Beach Costa Rica
- giveaphuk, on 05/22/2009, -5/+2um, no couchsurfing is the most affordable & best way to stay somewhere while travelling.. & what better experience can you have than sharing living space with a local who knows there city Alot better than any tourguide ever could... & the best thing is that it is 100% FREE!!! (think www.couchsurfing.org)
