Alas, there is a new 'Elbtunnel' now which is used much more than the old one and needless to say that it is a really ugly piece of architecture. - megadan76, on 02/04/2008, -0/+8Looks like fun. Hate to be in there if the power went out, though.
- Ninjao, on 02/04/2008, -0/+6Hamburg is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
- marcomc2, on 02/04/2008, -1/+1Thank You. You Are Correct. Hamburg Forever.
- soot, on 02/04/2008, -7/+4On a somewhat related note, I dreamed last night that I was trapped and died in a falling elevator and it was the scariest ***** ***** ever.
Anyway, this is really cool.- cphelps, on 02/04/2008, -1/+11***** ***** is scary, because I'd hate to get ***** by *****.
- KevinRWright, on 02/04/2008, -2/+1I hate when people feel the need to share their dreams. If I'm not in it, or it doesn't involve people having sex, then I don't care.
- willfe, on 02/05/2008, -2/+1I hate when people feel the need to share their apathy with me. I don't care if you don't care :) Let the infinite loop begin :)
- KevinRWright, on 02/05/2008, -1/+1Apparently you and everyone else participating in this thread have never watched 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia'. Oh well, wrong joke for the wrong crowd... (shrugs)

- stinkypyper, on 02/04/2008, -0/+23"was built in 1911"
I love how they used to build things with such style. Despite it just being a tunnel and some freight elevators they make an effort to make it look so classy and clean. Good to see it survived WW2.- herebejames, on 09/17/2008, -0/+1reminds me of alain de botton's the architecture of happiness, i cant stand the cloned housing estates you get cloned for miles & miles
even the 100 year old mining towns we get in UK were built on demand as well, they still have more style & class to them than what we get now

- insanebrain, on 02/04/2008, -7/+1Don't get it.
- xanadont, on 02/04/2008, -5/+0Why?
- ConanTL, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1While it might seem impractical by today's standards (major traffic), I'm sure during the time it was built it served its purpose well.
- tleisher, on 02/04/2008, -6/+1How is this cool again? It's an elevator for a car... from the photos and descriptions it sounded like it was an elevator that could go side to side and up and down, which really would be an elevator tunnel.
- jebidiah123, on 02/04/2008, -1/+12The best part about it is Hummers can't fit!
- jserio, on 02/04/2008, -0/+4Are there Hummers in Germany?
- campigenus, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2Depends on one's girlfriend.

- Neploxo, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1Looks like the design was TARDIS-inspired. See the closeup of the entry tunnel.
- Tarnum, on 02/04/2008, -0/+3Good morning, and welcome to the Black Mesa Transit System.
This automated train is provided for the security and convenience of the Black Mesa Research Facility personnel.
The time is... eight-forty seven A.M...
Current outside temperature is... ninety three degrees... with an estimated high of one hundred and five. The Black Mesa compound is maintained at a pleasant sixty-eight degrees at all times...- marcomc2, on 02/04/2008, -0/+2Fahrenheit temp measurements in Germany? I think theyre smarter than that..
- gordonf238, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1Imagine Lincoln Tunnel operating with elevators like these. There'd be a line of cars 10 miles long waiting to get on. I love it how they can drive cars in narrow tunnels like this, and have pedestrians safely walk on the sides. With the driver education the way it stands in the US, there'd be a fatality in a tunnel like that on a daily basis.
- mayoliv, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1 I really like the stuff they have in Germany. Very Cool
- marcomc2, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1I Love Hamburg City.

- Fischladen, on 08/14/2008, -0/+0Hamburg, my town, my grandma always took me to that tunnel.
