I think they should use weighted foam swords and shields for the fights. No one would get killed but you could definitely have a winner and loser depending on skill. Getting hit by those packs a wallop for those of you who did not waste your youth on frivolous pursuits.

Wikipedia has a panorama at the bottom of the Colosseum's interior in its current state...and um it would be hard to fight on that "floor".
