- bone625, on 09/23/2009, -4/+597Haha, dugg for his update though:
"Digg has brought to my attention that I am stupid and it should read farthest, not furthest. I shall leave it unchanged so I can feel the full extent of the ridicule I have earned. :(" - Nyaos, on 09/23/2009, -9/+573It is clear that South Dakota is the least American state then!
- Ramenhood, on 09/23/2009, -26/+460FARTHEST
- Podunkparte, on 09/23/2009, -4/+336I didn't know all McDonald's had an orange glow seen from space
- bail3yz, on 09/23/2009, -1/+261I would like to see a world version of this
- doktorrocket, on 09/23/2009, -28/+204Furthest point in the CONTIGUOUS US, maybe? I bet there's a place in Alaska that's further. And I tend to count it among the continental US, what with it being on the same continent and all.
- crash331, on 09/23/2009, -3/+174It's the entrance to hell.
- inactive, on 09/23/2009, -5/+159BS. Everyone knows that the only remaining fast food chain in the future will be Taco bell.
- indyGuy, on 09/23/2009, -1/+139Radioactive chicken nuggets, man.
- meloon, on 09/23/2009, -8/+139This is a ***** of McDos :o
- GREEDOnvrFIRED, on 09/23/2009, -5/+119Its also kind of cool to notice that these dots are NOT "on" a map of the US. It is just that the US is so well saturated with McDs that the dots mimic a map of the US. That alone is pretty dang awesome.
- scentaroom, on 09/23/2009, -3/+115Thats about the same distance to a hospital after the mac attack
- hakkola, on 09/23/2009, -3/+93I was going to say the same thing. Contiguous is the correct term, you're being buried by a bunch of helmets.
- JoeCool1986, on 09/23/2009, -5/+75Correct. "Furthest" is for abstract, non-physical distances.
- junkfoodjoe, on 09/23/2009, -3/+63Mc DDoS attack?
- verycoolwinter, on 09/23/2009, -2/+61The furthest I can go in my job is that of a butt-scratching janitor.
(non-physical distance)
The farthest I can go to get away from my 300 pound girlfriend is to drive to Alaska.
(physical distance) - appleseed1234, on 09/23/2009, -1/+58Ah yes, the Franchise Wars.
- homercles337, on 09/23/2009, -4/+59Your thankin your so fukin smart?
- spriggig, on 09/23/2009, -1/+56When you're jonesing for McD fries, it can seem like 100 miles when they're just down the street.
On the other hand, since I have high blood pressure, maybe I should move to SD. - Eorster, on 09/23/2009, -0/+52McDonalds is a for-profit company.
- tantalusx, on 09/23/2009, -4/+52You guys are wrong afaik. Further can relate to distance, time or degree, while farther relates specifically to distance.
It is perfectly fine to say one store is further away than another. It would however be incorrect to say "a farther example". - BubblesTheChimp, on 09/23/2009, -3/+47Nobody consciously moves to South Dakota, you just end up there. Sort of like Denny's.
- senselessending, on 09/23/2009, -0/+44what's with the void in the middle of west virginia?
- tj111, on 09/23/2009, -5/+48Link to the original article instead of blogspam: http://www.weathersealed.com/2009/09/22/where-the- ...
- mooocow, on 09/23/2009, -1/+43Wow they should really turn their golden arches signs off. They would save a packet on the electricity bill by the look of it :)
- tim620, on 09/23/2009, -2/+44Ultra-religious? hardly. Most of the churches in SD are Lutheran or Catholic and aren't much more than a "country club". It is really only a "frozen wasteland" a few months out of the year. It gets above 100 F during the summer. Barren, well, yeah, because there are few trees over most of it. Although the beauty of the badlands and the Black Hills make up for it. I personally think SD is a beautiful place to live.
- Atmandk, on 09/23/2009, -1/+41^ helmets.
sweet. - Nyaos, on 09/23/2009, -1/+40bet he dun vote ferr obama teh mooslim
- BubblesTheChimp, on 09/23/2009, -3/+40In 'n Out Burger FTW baby!
- bicyclethief, on 09/23/2009, -10/+46Why would anyone go to McDonald's when you could go to a Five Guys Burgers?
It's not much more expensive and the quality is overwhelmingly better (and probably slightly healthier too).
* No affiliation with Five Guys. Just a fan. - sjbdallas, on 09/23/2009, -6/+41Would be perfect except that it's also probably 1000 miles from the nearest strip club so count me out.
- boerema, on 09/23/2009, -5/+39Bah! I live in South Dakota! I will have you know that without us, you wouldn't have the Briggs & Stratton (first air-cooled engine), ethanol, Black Hills gold (unique mix of gold, silver, and copper) cookies and cream ice cream flavor, Daktronics (world's leading video display maker), and we keep the Missouri river from destroying all cities downstream.
Just because we have vast sections of land dedicated to growing the food you eat instead of whoring ourselves out to fast-food franchises doesn't mean we are un-Americ....oh. Yeah we are. - inactive, on 09/23/2009, -1/+34Dugg for Demolition Man
- tgc1, on 09/23/2009, -0/+31More like Denial of Arterial Blood Flow attack.
*****.. but DABFA just doesn't sound as cool. - JackSrenton, on 09/23/2009, -0/+31you'd see an empty west coast.
- nicktomyskins, on 09/23/2009, -1/+31Maybe it could possibly be a portion of the Appalachian Mountain range commonly known as the Blue Ridge Mountains, no that would be far too logical
- greentable, on 09/23/2009, -2/+32Well it's comforting to know that at any point in the US I'll never be more than 1.5 hours from a McDonalds...
/cries - skyblaze, on 09/23/2009, -5/+35Looks like the US is sort of divided on the McDonald's issue.
- Long189, on 09/23/2009, -1/+30Dugg this comment for helmets
- slapded, on 09/23/2009, -2/+30i love the taste of five guys in my mouth
- OptykUnreal, on 09/23/2009, -0/+27I would say that Five Guys is much more expensive considering one of their double hamburgers is the price of an extra value meal at Mcds. That having been said, you definitely get what you pay for as Five guys is much much better than Mcds.
- mediaphile, on 09/23/2009, -1/+23You can further your career. You cannot farther your career.
- inactive, on 09/23/2009, -2/+24McDonald's actually has a satellite with a program called Quintillion (I think) that measures population density to better anticipate where they could open new restaurants.
- lindsayjc, on 09/23/2009, -1/+23Eating McDonalds is the furthest thing from my mind, as I am currently full of Chalupas.
- Atmandk, on 09/23/2009, -1/+23Stallone for Governor!
- crossmr, on 09/23/2009, -5/+26If by land you mean young boys virginity...
then yes.. - banheiro, on 09/23/2009, -3/+24tanalusx is right, guys. The OAD perfectly corroborates his claim:
"Traditionally, farther and farthest were used in referring to physical distance: : the falls were still two or three miles farther up the path. Further and furthest were restricted to figurative or abstract senses: : we decided to consider the matter further. Although farther and farthest are still restricted to measurable distances, further and furthest are now common in both senses: : put those plants the furthest from the window." - slapded, on 09/23/2009, -1/+22if you've ever been to that part of wv, you would know. you would know.
- Brooks007, on 09/23/2009, -5/+25"Digg has brought to my attention that I am stupid and it should read farthest, not furthest. I shall leave it unchanged so I can feel the full extent of the ridicule I have earned. :("
LOL, thank you grammar police for looking like douches again. -
