- apochcrypha, on 03/17/2008, -0/+0Yes
- scrimaxinc, on 03/17/2008, -0/+3No, we reuse them. We'd only be recycling them if we broke them down into 1s and 0s and put them together to make a new post.
- OwdenBowden, on 03/17/2008, -0/+1I thank you each for the clarity. Now to look up post from the start to repost.
- ophello, on 03/18/2008, -0/+2these arent waves, MagneticIsland.
god dammit that annoys me. now 2.300 people think waves can freeze.
- cvh™, on 03/17/2008, -10/+288sorry m8, those are glaciers (but they still look cool).
every party needs a party-pooper, and this time its me...- itsgotyou, on 03/17/2008, -3/+58buzz killington is that you?

- rspeed, on 03/17/2008, -0/+6Actually, yes. Read the Snopes page. These formations are formed by glacial melting.
- Gamer2k4, on 03/17/2008, -0/+13Yep, the "waves" description is debunked by Snopes here: http://www.snopes.com/photos/natural/antarcticwave ...
- purplehaze420, on 03/17/2008, -0/+1Nicely found.
- iancorey, on 03/17/2008, -0/+3You would have to be retarded to think that there was a 10 foot liquid wave one second, then it got cold enough to freeze solid in less than a second. Geeehhrrr.
- greedz, on 03/17/2008, -2/+5you said pooper :D

- Altoidsxcore1, on 03/17/2008, -0/+6Yeah, it hard enough to freeze a lake thats got a little current, no way could a wave freeze unless you go at it with liquid nitrogen or some *****.
- jdmzpf, on 03/17/2008, -0/+3Especially salt water, M.P. at about -10 Degrees C

- NeptuneBkc, on 03/17/2008, -15/+182You got to be ***** kidding me, this picture gets on digg front page like 5 to 8 times every month. If you guys really like it that much, ask the digg designer to make it your background when visiting digg.
- yellowsnowcone, on 03/17/2008, -0/+103We need a Digg Classics section for all the perennials that make it to the front page.
- jdmzpf, on 03/17/2008, -0/+2Best thing I've heard all day, only problem is, What will be on the FP of the real digg? Barrack and Hillary?

- millenniumjules, on 03/17/2008, -1/+4Why are you gonna vomit? You can't look at beautiful pictures? Why? Allergic to beautiful stuff? Does it mean that your girl/boy-friend has to be ***** ugly, otherwise you vomit? Just wondering..
- Delvis, on 03/17/2008, -1/+19This just shows how many new users cycle through Digg. It's not the same people Digging over and over again, it's new people. Why not just let them enjoy it, the way you did when you first saw it?
- sarixe, on 03/17/2008, -1/+2then they'll all digg the background over and over and over and over...
- Octanus, on 03/17/2008, -0/+2There is probably a GreaseMonkey script out there to change your background.

Oh wait... you've been registered with digg for 2 weeks and a day. Guess you do have an excuse.... but not really.

OMG, what happened to global warming??? Eat that Gore- eltrev, on 03/17/2008, -7/+6um, you are an idiot. The blue ice is actually caused by temp fluctuation - related to unusually highs temps. And, why the ***** is this on Digg again?
- zipped6, on 03/17/2008, -5/+1no, it's caused when there is a layer of ice on the water and the water underneath supercools, freezes, and expands pushing up through the surface ice
- jellygraph, on 03/17/2008, -4/+2its due to the salt content of the water, meaning that the water is actually colder than the freezing point without freezing into ice, until it splashes that is. there are some awesome videos of water freezing upon hitting the coast
- rspeed, on 03/17/2008, -1/+4Idiots, all of you. Do some research!
Also: I've personally seen this on Digg three times. Buried. - Panc, on 03/17/2008, -0/+0Haha, four wonderful theories from Digg's crack team of scientists

- craigatkinson, on 03/17/2008, -3/+7Why does everyone have to say how many times something has been on digg? Not everyone lives on digg, so there are bound to be repeats for those of us who missed it.

If I can find that many hits with Digg's crappy search feature, then you know there are more.

- retrobyte, on 03/17/2008, -2/+13Debunked. Real photographs, inaccurate description:
http://www.snopes.com/photos/natural/antarcticwave ... - angouleme, on 03/17/2008, -2/+7Photos stolen from:
http://www.astro.caltech.edu/~tonyt/Domec/index.ht ...
These photos were taken at Dumont D'Urville, a French station in Antarctica - bingobongony, on 03/17/2008, -3/+9I cannot believe how many times this is submitted as "frozen waves". Do the submitters really have THAT little of an understanding of simply physics, thermodynamics, etc? It was take a flash freeze far more unrealistic than the one in Day After Tomorrow for a wave to freeze mid-break.
- blademonkey, on 03/17/2008, -0/+5I think it's because "Frozen Wave" has more of an impact than "Melted Glacier". This way you get to "impress" uninitiated web surfers and add web traffic to your depleted site by re-posting to digg a story that was found by someone else. Then not mentioning the original source and perpetuating the misinformation would somehow make you popular.
good plan...

- harryterry, on 03/17/2008, -4/+1maybe it's just me, but i hate seeing duplicated stories....
- digitallysick, on 03/17/2008, -1/+1Any high res versions of these? would make a great wallpaper
- KnightMareInc, on 03/17/2008, -2/+1they're not waves, go away with these dupes.
- mab0111, on 03/17/2008, -1/+2breathtaking... hi-res versions probably look even better too. anyone stumbled across any?
- Habemus, on 03/17/2008, -1/+1Buried -- inaccurate. Those aren't "frozen waves" -- it's a glacier in Antarctica.
- asherchang, on 03/17/2008, -2/+1I've seen these before... though I think they were described as glaciers when I saw the pics.
- mbhp, on 03/17/2008, -6/+2Global warming my ass
- macwac, on 03/17/2008, -1/+1These cliffs of ice happen when the ice expands and pushes against each other like tectonic plates.. under a lot of pressure and a long time the ice gets pushed up into these huge mountain/cliffs of ice. You see it happen a lot on rivers/lakes/oceans in the northern countries during very cold conditions.. but on a much smaller scale.
- FoAaron, on 03/17/2008, -1/+0Dammit I wanted to kill Shiro Tagachi. >.

- mikeuram, on 03/17/2008, -0/+1I am so annoyed by this picture at this point. There have been plenty of sites that crash my browser hosting it, every single time, they call it a frozen wave, not a glacier :(
