- inactive, on 04/23/2008, -3/+40I think places like that are spooky and very cool. I always go into old abandoned houses and take pictures. I am a goof that way.. a major trespasser too!!
- borez, on 04/23/2008, -0/+31Four abandoned stations? How about the other 39
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_closed_London ... - wejmahtin, on 04/23/2008, -0/+22You can go down the tube on the second level and get the extra coins and the 1up.
- tbk123, on 04/23/2008, -1/+21old abandoned places are so romantic, creepysexy
- tangofish, on 04/23/2008, -1/+21It's like Hellgate London. Nice :)
- Nayson, on 04/23/2008, -0/+19Nah. London is a fantastic city. It might seem a bit humdrum if you live there or work there (i find myself working on London's railways, which brings me to this thread) but as a place to spend a long weekend? Well, its up there with anywhere on the planet. You can do the tourist thing and see the landmarks. You can do the culture thing and chose from a thousand shows, plays, gigs and events. If you are young(ish), and i assume that most Diggers are, then you can have great fun just hanging out in Soho and Camden town. London is a great place.
- geekchic, on 04/23/2008, -0/+18They are closed for very good reasons - often due to lack of use, but it should be noted that each extra station opened significantly slows down the average tube journey. If anything, fewer stations in the very heart of London would be better.
- 47bytes, on 04/23/2008, -0/+15you could have an amazing party in one of those stations
- socialpyramid, on 04/23/2008, -0/+14When I think of abandoned Underground tunnels, I always think of this gem http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28ow4TLMTqM
- BrendanSheehan, on 04/23/2008, -2/+15The real question is does MrBabyMan actually have a job?
- mikkee07, on 04/23/2008, -0/+11Even closing its doors in 1994, Aldwych doesn't looks anything like modern Undeground

- Angostura, on 04/23/2008, -0/+10It's not just the fact that whole stations have been abandoned, there are also large sections of stations that no-one sees.
About 10 years ago, I was lucky enough to get a guided walk through the disused sections of London Bridge station by a LU employee. One of the original underground lines used very small carriages with only slit windows and smaller bore tunnels. Though they fell out of use the tunnels were used as air-raid shelters during WW2. You could walk for miles through these smallish tunnels, which still had the remnants of WW2 posters on the wall and you could see where bunk-beds had been mounted. One of the more curious parts was being able to look down through a grating at the heads of the commuters standing on one of the new platforms below.
He was going to take us on a walk through to one of the disused stations, but the way through had been concreted up a couple of years previously, apparently as part of a plan to make some of the tunnels into a C&C bunker. - maxyRO, on 04/23/2008, -0/+8wow love the vintage toilets
- Nayson, on 04/23/2008, -0/+8Is the weather in London any worse than that of Paris? I dont think the 200 miles between them makes for much of a climate change.
Is the weather in London any worse than that of New York? Ive never been myself, but if TV is to be believed, it snows more in the Big Apple. Weather reports say New York as at least twice as much rain every single month. Average temperatures are as near as dammit identical.
You have pretty much admitted yourself ("and see the world") that London is dull for you because its not exotic. You live there. You take all the cool stuff for granted and are more affected by the bad stuff (property prices, traffic, morning and evening peak time public transport) than a tourist will ever be. Be proud of your city mate, its one of the best ones out there. - geekchic, on 04/23/2008, -0/+8The easiest deep level one to see is the remains of British Museum.
If travelling from TCR going East, watch the track on the same side as the platform and you will see the remains of the station in the gloom. If travelling West from Holborn - you want to face away from the platform. There is also a (still functioning) reversing sliding between the tracks just to the West of the old station. - geekchic, on 04/23/2008, -1/+9"Just think of the amount of homeless people in london with no where to sleep."
Hardly any actually - the few who remain are usually mentally incapable of accepting the housing which is offered to them.
However, the deep level shelters were used for a while after WW2 as billets for the army - and later the Goodge St bunker was used as a cheap hotel for people visiting the Festival of Britain. - inactive, on 04/23/2008, -2/+103 million people use the underground a day...yikes. Maybe they should re-open some of these.
- Modiga, on 04/23/2008, -0/+7Mornington Crescent!

"‘fluffers’: people who are employed to clean the stations and tunnels" - Tanishaa132, on 04/23/2008, -0/+7you kidding?
most of us love this stuff. - Enron1985, on 04/23/2008, -0/+6London is one of the places I must go before I die, if it weren't for financial restrictions I would have gone a long time ago.
- qetuo, on 04/23/2008, -0/+6Some of these would be great to be converted into homeless shelters, it has been done in other countries. Just think of the amount of homeless people in london with no where to sleep.
- exscind, on 04/23/2008, -0/+6You'd probably like the movie 'Mimic' (early del Toro flick); it's got that vibe. The second half takes place in abandoned stations beneath New York.
- gudnbluts, on 04/24/2008, -1/+7You assume that because this is essentially an American site, people aren't going to know that you can't pull that yet? We both know it hasn't been allowed since the Old Bailey accord changed the Bakerloo rules, especially as Holborn's already in play. You should have gone with something like Beckton Park, or even one of the Hounslows, and as such I'm going to go for Moorgate.
- whatsrequired, on 04/23/2008, -1/+7Eh, they should just do what they do with Washington Metro and keep the failing stations open with tax subsidies.
- jkleinfeld, on 04/23/2008, -0/+6I second that motion, as a young Londoner, i love this place. I wouldn't live anywhere else
- aethelberga, on 04/23/2008, -0/+6Interesting that British Museum Station was abandoned after another company built Holborn 100 feet away. The Tube seems so homogeneous now, and public transit so profitless that it's hard to imagine a bunch of competing consortiums building rival subway lines so close to each other.
- Jams, on 04/23/2008, -0/+6Check out http://www.28dayslater.co.uk they have some amazing pics of old, abandoned buildings. (I'm not advertising, it is really amazing site)
- geekchic, on 04/23/2008, -0/+5I had a rare opportunity to go inside the station a few months ago - it's quite facinating.
They use one platform for filming by TV/movies and the other for testing new platform designs and technologies. - dsmx, on 04/23/2008, -0/+5The expansion of the underground wasn't funded by passengers it was funded by property. The underground bought up land and then built the underground lines through then built houses there. Then they sold the houses for a huge profit, simple really.
- ElBeh, on 04/23/2008, -0/+5Kinky.

My own work so apologies for the spam... But you don't have to look! I did warn you. - inactive, on 04/23/2008, -0/+4I always used to look out for the hidden stations when I lived in London.

- tallulahvulture, on 04/23/2008, -0/+4jeez, it would be helpful to have british museum station still running.
i always get lost from tcr - polistud, on 04/24/2008, -0/+4You need to get FF 3 beta 5
- stepfresh, on 04/24/2008, -0/+4If Holborn's in play then I'm going to play Steward's Recourse and invoke the 1896 treaty implying a play of Moorgate and/or Embankment can only be followed by a stop beginning with letters F or Q. As such, I play Farringdon.
- twigboy, on 04/23/2008, -0/+4the numbers of diggs prove otherwise
move on people, nothing to see here - Phlieger, on 04/23/2008, -0/+4Sweet. Now I know places to break into when I go to London.

- joe57spike, on 04/24/2008, -0/+3dugg for creepysexy
- drewpost, on 04/23/2008, -0/+3It WAS the Aldwych branch. There were platforms at Holborn and a shuttle ran back and forth.
