- wilf_brim, on 07/11/2009, -0/+32Get ***** American off that list. I've flown several of the others, and have spent far, far too much time on American. The aircraft are beat up, the flight attendants are old and mean, and their baggage policy is absurd. They may be the best U.S. carrier, but that isn't saying very much at this point.
- chris1234, on 07/10/2009, -1/+20I would agree with that. As my own experience, I flew several times with emirates and singapore airlines they offered me a very good services with high quality food even though you are sitting in economy class.
- foxtrot3, on 07/11/2009, -2/+20Quantas - "The drinks are served in nice tin cans that are really hygienic than the small disposable plastic glasses in which drinks are served in several other airlines." WTF ???
- stutimandal, on 07/11/2009, -0/+16No Kingfisher (India) or Jet Airways (India)? No Air Canada? No Lufthansa?
I don't think American Airlines compares remotely with either of the above four. Also, I've flown many times on Cathay -- their logistics and on-time performance etc are great; but some of the aircrafts are old and have crampy seats. - lanemik, on 07/11/2009, -3/+17lol... American Airlines hires the best pilots and you won't get that queasy feeling because of their awesome flying skills.
srsly?
I'd like to introduce the author to a little thing called "autopilot." All airlines use it. - redfan, on 07/11/2009, -0/+13Buried for inaccuracy.
"If you are a member of A-Advantage then you will surely be upgraded to First Class even if you have bought an economy class ticket."
Wrong.
"If you speak fluent French then Air France is the best deal for you"
How is this relevant? Any airline I've ever flown on has flight attendants who speak fluent English.
And promoting "free alcohol" as a perk? All airlines offer free alcohol on international flights. - inactive, on 07/11/2009, -0/+13The rankings may be ok but this review is a total joke. Sounds like the author has done close to nil research.
- Iveestyle, on 07/10/2009, -0/+11Singapore Airlines is incredible! Should be #1!
- winguero, on 07/10/2009, -0/+11Cheeky... think Air New Zealand really got #2 cause it made its flight staff get quasi-naked?
- Kronich, on 07/10/2009, -0/+10I've never been dissapointed with Emirates...
- fightingforair, on 07/11/2009, -0/+7No Japan Air? No Korean Air? I have ridden international quite a bit and I would rank those two in the top five. Fantastic service/entertainment/and food. Leg room is a bit small, but I am a giant of a fella so you can't really rely on me for saying its small.
- Sixteh, on 07/11/2009, -0/+7http://rorr.im
- inactive, on 07/11/2009, -0/+6Virgin's cabin crew are awesome.
- leahpee, on 07/11/2009, -1/+7Air New Zealand is above Singapore? Who paid these guys?
I've flown on both many times and I would rather be served gourmet stir fry in Economy class by a friendly, gorgeous Asian girl than be served cold tea and bangers n mash in Business class by a fat, 50 year old unfriendly Kiwi woman on long haul.
Seriously, I love my country, but sheesh. Singapore Air is head and shoulders above all the others, followed by Cathay and Emirates. Other than the fact that American Airlines shouldn't even be there....
Buried. - Tyrghast, on 07/11/2009, -0/+6Take American off and put Lufthansa on.
- Atroacious, on 07/11/2009, -1/+5American Airlines use to be good now they blow, and charge like 5 bucks for the headphones that you have to return at the end of the trip
- MisterFurious, on 07/11/2009, -0/+4The article reads with such bad English, it felt like spam sent from an Eastern European nation.
From their "review" of Malaysia:
"The service provided by this airline is highly reliable and very much comfortable. Moreover the flight attendants are very much helpful and highly attentive towards the passenger’s needs."
Doesn't that sound like it was badly translated into English from a Malaysian brochure? - Frixionburne, on 07/11/2009, -0/+4Host I Can: Unmetered bandwidth.. at the expense of ***** hardware.
- Atario, on 07/11/2009, -1/+5Heading up the opposite list -- of bottom 10 airlines -- Aeroflot. Trust me on this.
- AmyVernon, on 07/10/2009, -0/+4My dad LOVES Sigapore airlines. Says they're the best.
- jdh24, on 07/11/2009, -0/+4From my experience Lufthansa is very professional... not only did they provide much more food than United or American ever would (an entire meal on a 1.5 hour flight, and two whole meals plus several snacks on an 8 hour flight), their staff did much more... my 8 hour flight was delayed by thunderstorms and caused me to miss a connection, so they rebooked me and got free meal vouchers before we even touched down. I've flown about 4 Lufthansa flights, and they're so much better than Northwest, Southwest, American, United
- XenonBG, on 07/11/2009, -0/+3I had one wonderful experience with Horizon Air (they co-operate with Alaska Airlines). I've never seen friendlier, more pleasant airplane staff in my life.
- bebouchard, on 07/11/2009, -0/+3I've flown Aeroflot. It was fine. Flight attendants were...um...sturdy, but at least they were professional. Can't say the same about the four guys in the row next to me who brought their own bottle of vodka along for the ride. Fun.
I can't read this article because of the server fail, but IMO almost any American domestic airline would be on my worst list. I took a short flight on Air Asia last winter. It's a discount airline operating in southeast Asia. I was impressed at the level of service and how pleasant the flight was. Just because you're a discounter doesn't mean you have to treat your aircraft like a city bus (I'm looking at you, Southwest!), and it also doesn't mean you have to overcharge passengers for basic services and treat them with utter contempt. - waynefoolx, on 07/11/2009, -0/+3I agree. I flew them once and it was the last time. It was like flying on a cargo plane.
- zimsters, on 07/11/2009, -0/+3No mention of qatar, i'd put it above most of those on the list. every innovation i've seen is always on qatar...
- Aroundtown27, on 07/11/2009, -0/+3You do realize that the author appears to be talking about serving pop in the can instead of pouring it into a glass right? All pop on airlines is in cans anyway.
- inactive, on 07/11/2009, -0/+2half the people in america can barley speak english
- amdforever, on 07/11/2009, -0/+2American airline companies are no where close to the quality offered by Asian airlines.
- MAGZine, on 07/11/2009, -0/+2Air Canada's Economy sucks. Never flied first - it's simply too expensive for me. Air Canada aren't friendly at all - and I'd take Westjet way over Air Canada. WJ doesn't have First Class though, so it's difficult to say what I'm missing out on.
- emkaysmith, on 07/11/2009, -0/+2Other airlines also prefer to pour your coke out of the can into a tiny plastic glass because then they can serve more than one customer out of a single can. (And try bringing your own glass on board and explaining why you're carrying it to the wand-wavers in security. . . .)
- ChromaVita, on 07/11/2009, -1/+3You say full stop but then follow that with a comma. Wouldn't a period be more appropriate?
- Aroundtown27, on 07/11/2009, -0/+2Lufthansa was good. Air Canada should definitely not be on that list that is for sure. I really liked my trans-Atlantic delta flight though.
- WorldLeader, on 07/11/2009, -0/+2MidWest is a great U.S. carrier, but they don't do international travel. Their planes are nice, all economy, but still nice. The best part are these extremely tasty chocolate chip cookies they bake onboard and serve. You get two meltingly delicious cookies, even if your flight is only an hour long. I loved those cookies.
Of course their baggage handling system is stupid, as they make you pay for your first checked bag. This means EVERYONE is trying to stuff full suitcases into the carry on storage.
But those cookies... - doctordbx, on 07/11/2009, -0/+2Qantas? ***** no. Bag of old whores who serve you ***** hot soda in a poorly maintained tin can (I'm talking about the airplane there).
I'm Australian, and I refuse to fly Qantas if there's an alternative.
Singapore is my pick. - OfNumbers, on 07/11/2009, -0/+2Mirror: http://rorr.im/digg.com/travel_places/fly_in_style ...
- bibendum, on 07/11/2009, -0/+2This article is utter crap.
- elijahyossie, on 07/11/2009, -0/+1no, but perhaps a semi-colon would've been more appropriate.
- Minkasa, on 07/11/2009, -0/+1"Now that the list is over, you must go through it before booking any tickets on the international economy airlines."
- Derek941, on 07/11/2009, -0/+1I totally agree with you
- MAGZine, on 07/11/2009, -0/+1Page caching is a beautiful thing; also entirely necessary if you plan to hit the FP of Digg - you can't be running large PHP scripts or trying to connected to a shared MySQL db server.
- kilodelta, on 07/11/2009, -0/+1even though its not a huge airline, Porter Airlines up in Toronto is freaking amazing.
- inactive, on 07/11/2009, -0/+1I'll never eat airline food, the best airline food is mediocore at best
- jwolcott, on 07/11/2009, -0/+1This list is complete BS. The only thing American Airlines is consistent with is in getting the most complaints.
And don't just take my word for it: http://www.AirlineComplaints.org
Look which airline has the most complaints...by far. - adjames, on 07/11/2009, -0/+1Not at all, Spirit for one charges you $2 a beer
- lightishred, on 07/11/2009, -0/+1I can think of at least two domestic airlines that have been vastly superior, in my experience, to American: Virgin America and Jetblue. They don't fly as many places as American does, but they fly where it counts. I've only flown Virgin once, but damn, I did not feel cool enough to be on that plane. It was incredibly nice. You can order drinks as often as you want from the touchscreen in front of you, and there is in-flight wifi. As far as Jetblue is concerned, their planes are always nice; you'll never get stuck on one of their junkers, because they don't have any.
Both of these airlines are usually cheaper than American if you get your tickets soon enough. When I flew Virgin, my tickets were the cheapest ones available on Expedia. - emkaysmith, on 07/11/2009, -0/+1And costs you the equivalent of 20 regular airline tickets?
- lightishred, on 07/11/2009, -0/+1Also, I have never experienced a descent into Denver where my fillings haven't been shaken loose. Though that might just be Denver.
- afrobuddha, on 07/11/2009, -0/+1I flew with Jet Airways 2 weeks ago and they are a great airline , I definitely recommend them to anyone.
American airlines are crap and the cabin crew are sour horrible people - inactive, on 07/11/2009, -0/+1air france really is a great airline, I flew from toronto to paris got us there so fast, and the crew was very nice. I really hope when I fly back that the economy seats are full, I would like to fly business class, I actually like being able to fully stretch my feet out
- PCloadLetterWTF, on 07/11/2009, -0/+1G5.... and lots of money... playyyaaaa.
