Born, live and die on the island apparently. - LupeFiasco, on 01/23/2009, -0/+28The auto show "Top Gear" did a special in Vietnam where they rode motorcycles from Saigon(Ho Chi Minh City) all the way to Halong Bay. It is a great watch even if you are not familiar with Top Gear. Some amazing scenery including their amphibious trek across Halong Bay. They had to turn their motorbikes in makeshift boats! Hilarious.Check it out.

- tinkafoo, on 01/23/2009, -1/+24One of the best episodes they've done.
- n064, on 01/23/2009, -0/+15agreed, Top Gear is always amazing, but this one was the best they did in a while.

- Lelandcurry, on 01/23/2009, -0/+11Did they go there on "The Wild Thornberrys?"
Does anyone even remember that show? - scott28w, on 01/23/2009, -0/+10There's a bigger floating village in Cambodia. Here's a pic of a floating church there:

Here's how they get around: http://i40.tinypic.com/rkwyfm.jpg - Foenetik, on 01/23/2009, -0/+8Anthony Bourdain also went there on no reservations.
- manacit2, on 01/23/2009, -1/+7Was this the place they went in Top Gear? the Vietnam Special.

- inactive, on 01/23/2009, -0/+3I rode a motorcycle(Minsk) from Hanoi up to Bac Ha, Sapa and back. I think I rode about 1,200 miles overall. Best time of my life.

- turbakt, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2There is another village on lake Titicaca, Peru called Uros where its an old way of life once used to escape tribal conflicts.
- inactive, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2Been there. Behind the camera is a much larger village, on land. The buildings you see floating there are not houses, just fishing farms. (Inside each hut is a trapdoor on the floor, into which the fishers pour out enormous bags of fish food.)
- SirWalrus, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2Vietnam is an amazing place. I spent a month there last summer. The closest airport to this is in Hanoi. It is a few hours from Hanoi to Ha Long Bay then the most beautiful boat ride you will ever have to get to the village.
- cyrix, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2Absolutely. Clarkson's voice over at the end when they showed clips was dare I say it? Moving. I haven't really heard anything from him where he was anywhere near as deep. One of their best episodes ever.
- hyderalamgir, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2Add to the list of places to go to when I get rich
Somewhere around 2060 - shinkou, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2I want to go for a visit too, but where is the airport?

"Dalaran is a village?" - iMick, on 01/23/2009, -1/+230 Rock yo.
- swraman, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1i thought it was from Top Gear
- terencec, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1To a certain extent though... that last voiceover seemed a bit "out of place" considering TG. IMO it was more of something put in to satisfy the local government.
- lilamae, on 03/14/2009, -0/+1Is a beautiful place. Thanks for sharing.
- Foenetik, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1the dragon scales of vietnam. such beautiful place, but this super small picture is doing it a major disservice.
- pure09, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1Oh, how I miss top gear! Can't wait till their back... in March?
- Kintara, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1At least these homes will survive the rising waters from global warming. A tsunami on other hand, these homes will find a comfy place miles inland.
- sgnpkd, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1there's a heliport in Ha Long. Hanoi-Halong in half an hour for about 300 bucks.
- bearcat8543, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1yeah, that looks like a smart idea
- kellyut, on 02/05/2009, -0/+1Stunning, but way too cold and wet for me.

- Hend, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1Thank you for that! Very entertaining. I've been to Hue and Na Trang and it was quite magnificent. That video makes me want to go back.
- grantmoore3d, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1That's a lot of in-breeding....
- mriegger, on 02/05/2009, -0/+1If you've just tuned in to Britain's favorite car show...
- franksmith, on 01/23/2009, -1/+2I wouldn't want to go there...
I'm betting they pee straight into the water! - notdatagain, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1Dugg for being my home country and for being a damn nice place to climb. (Deep water soloing.)
- phlegm, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1Here is s similar Muslim village I went to in Thailand. Very cool.

- Cideu, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1I don't think it's all that expensive there.
- yoyogirl, on 02/02/2009, -0/+0it is Ha Long Bay. Very famous place in Vietnam. http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/672
- SassySquatch, on 01/27/2009, -0/+0Yeah, the view is great, but mowing the yard can be a bit troublesome.
- tempurasama, on 01/23/2009, -0/+0I've been there. Took a trip out on a boat and basically went around looking at the islands. Some of the caves are amazing, but gotta watch for the bats. The water was so clean you can see right to the bottom. Some beaches are so isolated that the only way to get in you have to basically swim in. Amazing place.
- sumsuni, on 01/23/2009, -2/+2this has to be a nightmare for law enforcement.
- holidaysgets, on 02/02/2009, -0/+0Seems very beautiful but where is this place in Vietnam???
