- david76, on 05/27/2008, -1/+13Unfortunately, it was destroyed when christened by a full-size bottle of champagne.
- mastication, on 05/27/2008, -0/+12Don't forget to buy the accompanying ocean simulator (with free iceberg generator) for £1m.
- jasdf, on 05/27/2008, -1/+12What ever happened to that plan of building a real ship out of the original blueprints? I think I remember that a South African company was going to do it back around when the movie came out.
- corryface, on 05/27/2008, -0/+6i live in belfast where the ship was built and we've been hearing rumours for years about them building a replica. doesnt look likely my friend.
- drgmdp, on 05/27/2008, -0/+5i wonder if it sinks
- chanop, on 05/27/2008, -0/+4Keep it out of the Ice-chest
- Aviatrixt, on 05/27/2008, -0/+4I'd like a 1:48 model of James Cameron's ego. Please tell me he doesn't get any of the profit for this.
- inactive, on 05/27/2008, -0/+4The Titanic sank because it ran into an iceberg. I'm pretty sure a modern recreation of the Titanic would have modern navigation equipment. It wouldn't be crossing the Atlantic with the cross-your-fingers-and-gun-it method of collision avoidance.
- EBFoxbat, on 05/27/2008, -0/+4Hey, it looks like there's some life boats missing on the model.
- luckyguy2000, on 05/27/2008, -0/+4even though it sounds exciting it would be a dumb idea. its like throwing away 80 years of development. think of a titanic replica that sinks and hundreds of ppl die. the world would freak out!
and i think the costs would be immense. i dont think ships are built like that these days (i bet they're built much cheaper and lighter). - TheGreatBelow, on 05/27/2008, -1/+5riveting
- inactive, on 05/27/2008, -0/+3I think retro cruises like that would be a blast. I'd love to do one of those around-the-world tours that the old Graf Zeppelin used to run. Why can't we get luxury zeppelins to happen? Seems like we've got the materials and technology to make that happen, too. It would be kinda cool to cross the Atlantic on the Hindenburg and then come back on the Titanic.
- th954, on 05/27/2008, -0/+3i wonder if it floats

Unless I'm looking at the wrong one. - zadadka, on 05/27/2008, -0/+2So does it also include the original "as drawn" aft expansion joint....?
- poondoggle, on 05/27/2008, -0/+2We all float down here.
- bcamp1973, on 05/27/2008, -0/+2Ok, now point stupidly at the model and look constipated....peerrrrfect... "click!"
- Thuktun, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1Er, the Titanic was not an invention of James Cameron. Why would he get profits from a model of a historical ship?
- sergiodlopes, on 05/27/2008, -1/+2I think that it would not be very expensive (considering a modern big ship) and I imagine that alot of people would like to travel on it or visit it.
- Thuktun, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1If that's your opinion, then don't spend your time on it. Oh, wait, you already didn't.
- Linake, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1I think they read the measurements wrong. . . ;)
- aussieNickuss, on 05/27/2008, -1/+2Here's hoping that a 1:1 replica is made one day.
- Dorian822, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1That's all well and good until someone puts it in a freezing pond...then just watch out for all the little trouble that will follow.
- guillebravo6, on 05/28/2008, -0/+1Great post, looks amazing!
- bjs3171, on 05/27/2008, -1/+2uh...i'm pretty sure this is inaccurate. my friend's father built a (smaller) scale model of the titanic from the plans about 20 years ago. he had gotten quite a few offers from museums back then. i'm not joking.
- inactive, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1You know, they could build a 1:1 scale model and put it into a museum as a walkthough exibit....
- Nerys, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1Also I remember that it was going to have a MODERN hull it would just LOOK like the titanic.
- DulcetTone, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1This was built several years ago, and first unveiled in Washington DC. I have a FAM 1:192 USS Arizona. The antennae on the floatplanes is modeled by human hair, the bell has a tiny rope hanging from it, and the boats have the name of the ship PAINTED on in letters well under 1mm tall.
It is an amazing site to look at to see how their prototypes are made. The aircraft are stunning, too. - raada, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1zzzz... let me know when they rebuild a full scale of titanic and sail to north america. Then the stupidtiy would be complete...
- ostracize, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1You would make the money back on tourists. Turn the boat into a museum. Hell, you could move the museum from place to place. You could offer luxury cruises in true Titanic style (without the sinking of course)
- distrachi, on 05/27/2008, -1/+2Cool, i was just thinking about making a 1:48 scale replica of the iceberg in the winter.
- rmw132, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1I hate how they use a picture of a scene from the movie Titanic at the top, how about a picture of the real Titanic?
- DulcetTone, on 05/27/2008, -0/+0You are looking at the commercial 1:192 models, not the 1:48 scale one.
They obtained the right to use the plans for the commercial model in exchange for creating and giving to the shipbuilder the first ever builders' model of the vessel. - ThePwnyExpress, on 05/27/2008, -1/+1...---...
- webkami, on 05/27/2008, -2/+2It is possible in Daily Mail world
/sarcasm - je12u, on 05/27/2008, -4/+4What an incredible waste of time
- monoa, on 05/27/2008, -1/+1Grow a clue please.
Next. - Regbooker, on 05/27/2008, -1/+1Grow a brain please.

- Kali075, on 05/27/2008, -3/+2Its missing a tiny version of Leo and whats-her-face at the front
- monoa, on 05/27/2008, -4/+3Daily *****' Mail spam whack-a-mole. Buried.
- buddyfarr, on 05/27/2008, -6/+4What are all those lifeboats for? get rid of those! We don't need all of these lifeboats! It makes the boat look like crap! Even God himself couldn't sink this boat!
oops......ICEBERG!!!!!! - mcphatty, on 05/27/2008, -3/+1for 3.3 million dollars, id expect higher quality than that model. i'm sure it took a long time, but in the third picture you can see glue exposed on the bottom of one of the support beams, not to mention it's crooked.
/ocd - dailyapplecrisp, on 05/27/2008, -4/+2Don't hit an iceberg.
- inactive, on 05/27/2008, -2/+0"The 18ft long model of the Titanic is available to buy online for around £1.3."
Damn! With current exchange rates it's way too expensive. :( - nightlawyer, on 05/27/2008, -8/+2I'd prefer a model of Kate Winslets / Rose knockers. They proved to be unsinkable.
